Thanks Bruce, Daniel, Kevin, David, Ray, Carl, Austin & Jonathan - yes, Vector is first! Thanks Bill, method to my madness, as they say! LOL Thanks Brian, Dave Van - yes, it will be also, in full detail Thanks Ira, Frank, David, Monty, Mike, Shaun - yes, I know exactly what you mean, thanks! Thanks Thomas, Jesse, MrObsessive, Ron, Bob & Mike - no problem, mine too! Filler sanded and smoothed out. Front hood radiator exits crafted and attached, windscreen valance vents created, and thin over lays of fenders and hood begun. With the basic bodywork constructed, next I'll start adding the finer detailing, like window trim, fender flares & interior
-
Chassis detailing continues, with rear suspension lower control arms fabricated, and front bottom cover plate with bolt heads in place. Additional detailing will be added yet further. Body sides in place, cut outs for rear fender arch extensions curved and fastened into place. Beginning of rear tail panel cut and compound curves being fashioned. Further build up of the rear tail panel, before attaching to body. Hard to see in these photos, but every surface has had curvature added to best approximate the complex body styling of the actual car.

I've been very busy with life "stuff", and sorting out casting for other projects to satisfaction, but in the meantime had started this project (before the new year) on a very rare and interesting car, the AMC AMX/3. Styled by Richard Teague, and chassis development by Giotto Bizzarrini, the AMX/3 was developed into a fully operational vehicle, with 5-6 cars built & remain intact today. The car was mid-engined design, with fully independent suspensions front + rear, a 390 V8 and 4 speed transaxle bespoke. Reference photos, in particular of the under chassis, are not easly found, so I built some areas with less detail than others, rather than to try and "fill in" detail incorrectly, instead building only as what can be clearly seen. Again, is being built in a manner condusive to casting & assembly ease, but also to make as accurately as I can do so. Enjoy!

Hey Austin yes eventually, as with everything I build, but the Vector is indeed first, which I'm working through the casting stages now, just life and $$ get in the way LOL Hey JC I too like those wheels, over the initial AMX/3 show car version, they are indeed Campagnolo, which I'll 3D print up, with 205-15 and 225-15 Goodyears respectively
-
That was my initial thought also, but the AMX single LCA with trailing strut, where as the AMX/3 appears as a full triangulated LCA (extending the leading pivot point far forward, with noticable anti-dive, as in image below), and has a coil/shock through the upper control arm, where the AMX is perched above True, the rear suspension is a unique Bizzarrini design, which apparently BMW helped in some development in the chassis & suspension tuning, giving it praise for being a well balanced and neutral handling car I've very good photos of the rear half of the chassis under side & rear suspension, but the above cutaway, and below photo are the best I have of the front chassis/suspension so far So I have constructed all that I can of the chassis now, except the front end, until I can get better reference images
-
Hey guys I'm searching out better photos specifically of the AMX/3 front suspension and forward under chassis/floorpan areas I've already a lot of the exterior & interior, and the rear half of the chassis/drivetrain (above & below) So far, online searching, hasn't revealed any really good pics, besides this cutaway Please share if you have, or come across some Thanks!

Interesting article from old kit car magazine
-
It was, but is a different car from the M8B this kit car was based upon, both similar in basic layout though, and creator, Bruce McLaren Here is a photo of the two kit cars Montage (M6GT) and Mirage (M8B) side-by-side

Thanks Ray, Fred, Ken, Chris & Carl Similar Chris, but I've a project underway for that too! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=77505&hl=coyote

3D printing growing as we speak
Jeremy Jon replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's a good observation Gary, and price for these products will keep coming down, but so too the use may become more practical The largest expense, besides the initial purchase, at this time, is the materials, which depending upon the specific chosen, put into the extruded line necessary for 3D printing -

Better Shelby Side Exhaust?

If working with a metal (aluminum or brass) tubing is to daunting for some, perhaps a thick-wall drinking straw could be used? a little bit of heat to curve the exit, and sharp knife to make the angled end, then splice in the kits existing header into the entry end, and paint to complete -
Well, to fill the void, while I still am unpacking & setting up at my new place, this is a small side project I dabbled with in between other current projects I may likely mold & cast this into a kit at some point, but only after my more immediate kit projects are completed and ready I had these left over parts from an accurate miniatures M8B kit, which I used some donor parts from for my M6GT kit build, and had the body + main chassis still In the '70's a company called Manta, produced a kit car copy of the McLaren M8B, calling it the Mirage There was even one featured in the original movie "Gone in 60 seconds"! They were mid engine, and set up for SBC engines, or just about any drivetrain the owner / builder wanted Many became abandoned or wrecked, but still some are around today, kept by their current owners For a modeller, it could be a fun little kit to build, using any drivetrain you could make fit, any wheels you'd like, either old school, or new flash! Just like the original Manta kit car, the inspiration came from the (Bruce) McLaren M8B racing Can-am car! Though the kit car has many differences, like a much longer nose, different bodywork details, an interior with molded seats, and integrated tubular chassis. Here is the start of the project Enjoy!

Best resin early SBC available?
Jeremy Jon replied to Jeremy Jon's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks Mike It hopefully is, I've yet to see if it is a plain block like post #11, or better detail like the nova ss kit has? -
Best resin early SBC available?

Ah ha! So looks like the AMT 'vette LT-1 kit might be the one, shows here built with rams horn manifolds, I'd have only to change to a standard distributor, and a much nicer extra body to be left over with! Sadly, can't tell from these pics though, if the block is very good in detail or plain style?
