in Death Valley?

I was bound and determined to have something vintage as my first car - preferably from my ancestral home in Kentucky to avoid the Chicago rust. In 1976 I spotted this Shore Green '50 Plymouth in West Paducah and bought it for $200: My uncle and I drove it home to my grandparents' house... and there it sat for four years until after my grandfather died and Baptist Hospital bought up the whole block of houses. My mom went back down there to help my grandmother move and sold the car to some guys from Kevil who were going to restore it; they paid $200 for it so I broke even.

Finally scored a good unbuilt MPC '33 Chevy panel truck: Complete and not showing any tire damage.

Now if only AMT '64 Chevelles/El Caminos/wagons would tank in value...

My dad took this slide of my mom holding a snowball in July 1956, on Trail Ridge Road near the summit of Rocky Mountain National Park, in front of the lava cliffs: So I decided to re-create the pose when we went there last week, but I got the angle wrong. At least I remembered to stick my tongue out like Mom did:

Wow. Are they hiring? In the 1980s I used to work for Diversified Printing in Pasadena, and at the time our claim to fame was having the only color copier outside of West L.A. We'd get the occasional props people come in to make copies of things like the Fall Guy logo to be pasted onto miniature trucks for the stunts that were too dangerous or expensive to do full-size. ETA: At 8:31 in the first video you can see the printing plate for the flyer announcing the dance contest "Win a (sic) RKO Movie Contract" from Spielberg's bomb 1941.

"Learn to feel" was Joan Crawford's advice to prospective actors; from this example the feeling could have been taken down a notch:

Pursuits by police on World's Wildest Police Videos used to be narrated in sneering style by the immortal John Bunnell, who I usually referred to as "Bunny".

'51 Vic - oooeee. You're breakin' my heart with this one! Would be a great transkit for AMT's re-released-a-million-times '50 convertible.

I did go with Tire Rack for both cars; Goodyear Assurance on both (205/55R16 on the Cougar). Been happy with them so far. Took the Cougar to a car club meet up in Atascadero two weeks ago; ran without a hitch there and back and got around 29-30 mpg. And a week after I got home: dead battery. I noticed I'd left the mp3 player plugged in the cigarette lighter, so... Jumped it, started right up, drove it for about 30-45 minutes, unplugged the player and parked it. Next Sunday - dead again; guess it wasn't the player. Will get that checked out soon, as I really enjoy driving it.

Earliest I can remember was an AMT '62 Tempest convertible when I was four; Dad built and I watched/helped. I don't think we painted it, and I played with it to death afterward. This would have been in '64 so Dad probably found it at a discount store.

Haven't bought much in a while but I keep my eyes open. Passed on a couple '33 Chevy Panel kits whose bids hit the stratosphere, and a '58 Pontiac hardtop that did the same, but did snag this very decent '61 Fleetwood body: ... which will go to improve the damaged one I got from the Tennessee tractor auction some months back: ...then I can cut the good A-pillars from the blue body to fix a second complete one I have in the stash - and maybe convert it to a six-window short-tailed Town Sedan. (Jo-Han already shortened it a bit anyway to fit the box, so...)
