Boy, I banged all around this one. I thought I knew it but never found it. Great choice.
-
Oh, oh I know this one!!
-
Always liked that color. Nice choice!

This will make some people cringe but several years ago I chopped up two cheap kits(BTCC 850 and an Alfa 155) to make this. Today, both are stupid expensive kits. Still don't regret it!

Paint Storage Bottles/Jars Question
Pete J. replied to Straightliner59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
https://www.tamiyausa.com/search/?q=paint+mixing+jar I've been using these for years for exactly the purpose you are suggesting. They have a molded in seal in the lid that seals very well. Just wipe the rim with a little thinner to keep them clean and they will last forever. Tamiya USA shows them out of stock, but there are many places to get them. Hobby Link Japan has them for $4.50 for 6 of the small ones ad $7 for 6 of the large ones. Yes, shipping will add to the cost, but I generally buy 12 at a time. Shipping is about the same for 6 as it is for 12. The large one holds a full can of Tamiya TS rattle can paint decanted. One little tip. Tamiya rattle cans have two glass beads in side to mix the paint. After I decant the paint, I cut a hole in the side and retrieve the beads. I put one or two in my jars to aid in mixing the decanted paint. Works well for me! Good luck! -

Steve, don't feel bad about it! I did exactly the same thing when I first started following this thread many years ago. The rules are posted on the main header but if you just happen to come across the weekly post while browsing the site, it is easy to miss them. They are not referenced anywhere in the weekly post. Perhaps the moderator could include a link like this in the first post to help out newbies like yourself Quiz rules- Please read before posting - -
One-Off Quiz #10 - Deadline Feb 28, 2021 0:00 CET
Pete J. replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Oh I remember this! Now I just have to find what is was. Kind of like looking for my lost marbles!? -
Just one other comment about sealed kits. I have very few of them in my collection. I am very impatient and can't wait to get home and see what is in side so POOF! no shrink wrap. The few that I have that are still in shrinkwrap are there because I bought multiples and only needed to open one. If it is a show, I will ask the vendor if I can open it, with the proviso that if I open it and it is intact I will pay the asking price. I have only been turned down a couple of times and then I refuse to buy anything from that vendor suspecting that they had something to hide.
-
Didn't realize it was a 4 seater! I kept looking for a two seat roadster?
-
Frankly, only "collectors" care about shrink wrapping. I am not a collector and as such am always suspicious of "Factory wrapped" kit. If someone is advertising it then I see only two reasons. 1) They expect a premium for the kit or 2) they are hiding something and hope you never open the kit. Otherwise I personally stay away from them. The best way to tell if you are getting what you are paying for is if the seller opens the kit and shows the content in photos. This may be painting sellers with too broad of a brush, but I have been burned too many times. I am sure that most sellers are honest, but unless I have dealt with them before or know them personally, I am cautious.

Oh great! Now I have another year to wait until the last moment to get my model done!?

Lucky for us, my land line provider offers nomorobo as part of the service. It doesn't stop all the calls but it gets most of them. You can tell it is working because the phone rings once and stops. By the way, I never pickup a number I don't recognize. Most robot dialers dial numbers consecutively and if they get any form of response they know they have a live number and add it to a live list. This refines their calling strategy and you will get more calls. I am kind of sad about this because I use to love trolling them, especially the "Microsoft security department". I would play the old fool who just didn't understand his computer. I would mess with them until they got mad and hung up. I especially like it when they would ask, "are you wasting my time?" My response, "You don't want me to waste your time? Stop calling!" That really sent them into an apoplectic fit with bouts of foul language . I just laughed and that really made them mad.
-
If you have the time, you can tape it to a well wrapped brick and return it. That really sucks up their budget because they are on the hook for the return postage. I use to do mass mailings for my insurance business and had that happen to me. I really had to laugh about it. I kept it on my desk for years.

Go here and get the info straight from Matthew. https://scalemotorsport.com/collections/super-detail-kits/products/porsche-935-big-scale-super-detail-kit

If memory serves me, I believe they were $525 at the time. I had my hands on 6 of them. Two I built on commission and I still have 4.
-
Built two of them. It is really a serious commitment but results in a truly spectacular build. The last on I did won best auto at IPMS Nats and best large scale at GSL. You will see more of it when the SMS advertising comes out.

Got both the clues(bug and all blacks) and couldn't find it anyway. Got the VW part immediately. There is no mistaking the VW rims. Well Played Michael!

What did you see on the road today?
Pete J. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A tesla may be cool in some neighborhoods, but in mine, you need this to get any street cred in a hybrid. ? Less than 4,000 BMW I8's sold world wide! Stunning car! -
Welcome David. What part of Nebraska. Go Big Red!
-
Always loved this strange little car. For the time, it was a very advanced look. Precursor to the designs that followed.

Cost of motorcycle models...
Pete J. replied to whatsup's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Odd, I don't see that. Where did you see those prices? 1:12 scale are allover eBay for $20 to $60. 1:6 is a different story but that is to be expected. They are a bit more rare. Buy the way, when I look at prices on eBay I use completed/sold as a gauge. What someone is asking is certainly not the going rate. -
Same here, so I didn't send a reply. Very interesting car. Never new about this one, but would like to have one just to drive the local gear heads nuts trying to figure it out!

Straight (not tapered) Round Files?
Pete J. replied to PHPaul's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not cheap because they are jeweler files but they are the best quality. I've been using Grobbet for years and love them. https://www.ottofrei.com/Glardon-Vallorbe-Round-Parallel-Precision-Files-LP1669 -
I should explain the term longest serving airframe. The The B-52 and C 130 as a model have been around longer, but if you look at manufacture dates of active airframes they are all later than are earliest models of the KC-135. The oldest tanker airframe currently in service is tail number 57-1419. It was delivered to the Air Force in 1957(hence the 57 tail number). All of the currently active B-52s are H models with delivery dates starting in 1962. The oldest C-130 was retired last March and it was also delivered in 1962. This makes the KC-135 the oldest active airframe. It has had several upgrades but remained an A model until recently when it was re-engine and became an R model which applies to all KC-135s. Before this upgrade all A models flew the J-57s with water injection. That is why you will often hear them referred to as water wagons.
