  1. Was this the only new item shown at their booth? Been hoping that some more kits would be "teased" to the masses!
  2. very nice!
  3. Thanks for the tire information Chuck, might have to place an order with Chief Joseph at Fireball for some of his resin Goodyears or Radial T/As.
  4. Thanks for sharing Tom! I have to wipe up my desk, excessive drooling from all of the nice builds! LOL!
  5. That looks great, I was wondering when you were going to finish it after seeing it with the El Camino.
  6. Looks nice, sharp paint job!
  7. Harry, There were a couple of articles in today's Chicago Tribune detailing the financial mess of the Chicago Public School system and others in the state of Illinois and how much debt they have. I find it interesting, given your information above, that Chicago Public School teachers are planning on a strike in late May because they feel they aren't compensated properly. Another problem that plagues these government pension systems is the "loading up" that is done in the final years before retirement. I have known teachers who have sought opportunities to earn extra money in the years leading up to their retirement, all in an effort to increase their pension benefit. They will do whatever they can to pad their paycheck and some of it is downright funny. There is an instructor at my daughter's high school who gets paid $60 to keep score at the basketball and baseball games and figures the extra $$ helps with his "golf fund". Add in the extra couple of thousand they get for being department heads and pretty soon they get a nice chunk of change. I left the cesspool of corruption and high taxes that is Illinois 11 years ago and do not miss it one bit.
  8. I have that problem from time to time, sometimes at shows/swap meets, sometimes at Hobby Lobby ! It is an addiction to plastic that is hard to explain!
  9. Probably the Revell snap Corvette C6, 2014? I also have a Revell snapper of the F150 Raptor 2014? Most everything else is 50's- early 80's, with some earlier hot rods thrown in.
  10. That is flippin awesome Tom! Like I said before, your scratchbuilding skills are out of this world.
  11. I went back to Ollie's today and noticed they had added some more kits to the display, mostly Lindberg F150 pickups and what seemed to be a boat load more Revell SSR's! I think those ads usually run for 2 weeks, so something tells me that they will be adding to the display as time rolls by, which means I will be stopping in there regularly.
  12. Which one did you go to Brian? I was at the one in Matthews today around lunch.
  13. I figured a man of your incredible talent would be up on what's happening in the world these days Tom. Just sayin.......... Sometimes you have to ask because what may seem obvious to some isn't always to others.
  14. Have you looked at the Moebius truck tire set? They could be used, otherwise look in the toy aisle at a store to see if there is something that works for you!
  15. That is looking great Chris, nice details. I appreciate the tip on the cab backwall, it has bugged me too and your fix sounds like the perfect solution! That gray with white trim reminds me of the trucks I used to see around the Navy base in Northern Illinois where I grew up, they were that shade of gray and usually were bare bones vehicles.
  16. Looks good, nicely detailed and clean execution. I need to finish mine, maybe this weekend!
  17. Added to my wish list at Tower Hobbies, will have to get a couple eventually!
  18. Big Lots has changed their business strategy over the last 5-10 years and has become more of a bargain retailer than a closeout store it once was. Years ago Big Lots was similar to what Ollie's is today- a clearing house of merchandise that was manufacturer overstock, old product from closed stores, leftover items from store re-sets and consolidation of retailers. Back in the day they would get models in and the last time I bought them there, I think glue kits were $5.00 and snap kits were $4.00. The just released AMT 84 GMC pickup truck was one they had there and I remember buying 5 of them for $25 and now they are getting $25 each for them!
  19. As Chris mentioned, a 10x10 space is not as big you think it is. I would suggest taping out a 10x10 square on your garage floor and set up a bench and whatever you plan to use for storage of your models. See how well you can walk around in there BEFORE you build it. If you do go for the 10x10, I would try to build your shed barn style with a loft area for storage and 8 foot side walls so you have maximized your space. Whatever you decide to do, it will seem big at first but then eventually it will get smaller, trust me I know! And as the others have mentioned, keep the room sealed off from the woodworking area. Caulk and weatherstripping will go a long way towards having a dust free environment for your models. Consider some type of exhaust fan for the woodworking side to remove the dust away from the model area.
  20. It probably depends on staff and storeroom space. If they have the people, they will get it out sooner to free up the back room as they have trucks arriving all the time.
  21. I agree with Brian, especially the part about making sure the compound is completely off of the hood. There will be adhesion issues if there is any residue left from the polishing compound.
  22. I can see where younger modelers who build either tuner cars or low riders would feel out of place at a club or show that had older members who weren't accepting of those types of vehicles. I personally am not into those two types but I do respect the effort others put into them and would welcome them at a show or club meeting as they have some skills that we all could learn from. Some of the paint jobs on low riders are incredible and way beyond my talent, and while I would probably not even attempt to replicate one, I sure can admire someone who can pull it off. I have a son who is in his early 20's and he dabbled in models for awhile over the last 10-15 years but never really stuck with it. Part of it was he was into aircraft and I am into cars/trucks, part of it is video games and the last part is his ADD. He tends to want fast results with most things he does and as we know, waiting for paint and glue to dry is not for those types of people! Part of the reason I have started selling off some of my stash is the realization that I won't build them all and no one in my family will take up the hobby so I might as well whittle it down to those kits I will build and get rid of the rest. When I have been at swap meets and shows lately, I have seen more younger modelers so there is hope!
  23. nice and clean, well detailed. I have a couple of these in stash, need to get started on them soon!
