Organizing spare parts
mikemodeler replied to MrBuick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All of the above and I am still not organized! I should really stop all building and get everything labeled and orderly so I can actually get more done! Great ideas from all and I think I have some shopping in my future. I do remember Big Lots having a nice selection of plastic totes and containers, will have to check them out. -
62' or 63' Chev C60
mikemodeler replied to hedotwo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Modelhaus (which is currently not accepting any orders) has a 64-66 2 ton cab resin kit that will build up into the C50 truck. There are minor differences between the 62/63 and 64-66, mostly grille if I remember correctly. You can also modify a cab from one of the recent Revell 64-66 series pickups into a C50 cab, a quick search on the web will show what is different between a standard pickup cab and a C50, and sourcing a suitable frame will depend on what you are trying to build. -
As P.T. Barnum liked to say....."There's a sucker born every minute!" Tower Hobbies has it listed for $21.95 and Modelroundup has it for $22.90, so given the above eBay price, once could get at least three kits for the same price.

Very true Bill, and thank you for pointing out to Ed the possibilities based on existing tooling. I would imagine that the cost today to create a kit has to be incredible so any new kit has to have multiple versions to be considered. Yes, sales potential has to be there too, but as we have seen with the recent Moebius F 100 pickups, they are able to deliver a bunch of kits with just a few changes. Sure hope they can deliver us some new stuff because based on the list you showed, I will be buying some more kits!

or be patient and wait a bit longer and get one from one of the online retailers in another week or two for half that!

That is encouraging to see and hear Bill and hopefully we will see some new kits from that list in the coming years. I would like to think that they will consider some of the subjects listed even though they may have been kitted in the past by a different company based on sales potential and ability to share tooling costs.

welcome Rick, glad you are able to get back to the hobby!

It is a sad day in the music world when someone like Prince passes away as he was a brilliant musician and incredible talent. The fact that he was very private and reclusive added to his legacy and made his death harder to believe. It has been reported by TMZ that he was treated last week for a drug overdose while flying back to Minnesota from Atlanta, and that is something I find very surprising as he was reported to be fanatical about his health. Close friends have stated that he eat a mostly vegan diet and worked out, something that no doubt allowed him to be the showman he was. We seem to lose great artists every year, but with Glen Frey, David Bowie and Prince all passing in the last 6 months, there went a big part of musical life and makes me appreciate their music that much more.

Seen in the Mobeius booth at NNL East
mikemodeler replied to gtx6970's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Was this the only new item shown at their booth? Been hoping that some more kits would be "teased" to the masses! -
Thanks for the tire information Chuck, might have to place an order with Chief Joseph at Fireball for some of his resin Goodyears or Radial T/As.

Thanks for sharing Tom! I have to wipe up my desk, excessive drooling from all of the nice builds! LOL!

Harry, There were a couple of articles in today's Chicago Tribune detailing the financial mess of the Chicago Public School system and others in the state of Illinois and how much debt they have. I find it interesting, given your information above, that Chicago Public School teachers are planning on a strike in late May because they feel they aren't compensated properly. Another problem that plagues these government pension systems is the "loading up" that is done in the final years before retirement. I have known teachers who have sought opportunities to earn extra money in the years leading up to their retirement, all in an effort to increase their pension benefit. They will do whatever they can to pad their paycheck and some of it is downright funny. There is an instructor at my daughter's high school who gets paid $60 to keep score at the basketball and baseball games and figures the extra $$ helps with his "golf fund". Add in the extra couple of thousand they get for being department heads and pretty soon they get a nice chunk of change. I left the cesspool of corruption and high taxes that is Illinois 11 years ago and do not miss it one bit.

What makes me do it????
mikemodeler replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have that problem from time to time, sometimes at shows/swap meets, sometimes at Hobby Lobby ! It is an addiction to plastic that is hard to explain! -
The newest model year in your stash
mikemodeler replied to gtx6970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Probably the Revell snap Corvette C6, 2014? I also have a Revell snapper of the F150 Raptor 2014? Most everything else is 50's- early 80's, with some earlier hot rods thrown in. -
That is flippin awesome Tom! Like I said before, your scratchbuilding skills are out of this world.

Ollie's strike again
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I went back to Ollie's today and noticed they had added some more kits to the display, mostly Lindberg F150 pickups and what seemed to be a boat load more Revell SSR's! I think those ads usually run for 2 weeks, so something tells me that they will be adding to the display as time rolls by, which means I will be stopping in there regularly. -

Have you looked at the Moebius truck tire set? They could be used, otherwise look in the toy aisle at a store to see if there is something that works for you!
