Going to the U.S. Nationals!
mikemodeler replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dave, the beauty of NHRA racing is that every ticket is a pit pass! They are the only series where you can stand feet away from the crew working on the car and witnessing them starting up a Top Fuel engine after rebuilding it! The earth shakes and the Nitro burns your eyes, nose and mouth but it is something you gotta do. 10 years ago I worked for a company that was in the Motorsports industry and they campaigned a Pro Stock ride and I was lucky to attend the US Nationals. The experience is etched into my memory as I remember watching John Force and Tony Pedregon leave the starting line and feeling my whole body shake from the nearly 15,000 HP. Hope you have fun Andy and be sure to take some GOOD ear protection. I would recommend that you stop by a gun shop and see what they have. -
Looks like PR got it bad with massive rains and flooding. Power is out to most of the island but so far no mention of any deaths. The Weather Channel is predicting that this could end up in the Carolinas by this weekend, which isn't my idea of a fun time, the rain is always welcome. If there was any way to steer it to Texas to help those people out, I think it would be done. Hope everyone in the path of this store is safe and does not suffer any damage from it.

Well it definitely looks real Harry, not sure if I can figure out what it is!

Keep encouraging them to build and they will see the improvement in the quality of their builds. They did very well for their first time out and it is nice to see some kids interested in our hobby!

Some nice pictures there and how I wish I had made it to the show this year! Work and family got in the way (again!) and I was not able to make it to a great show. Thanks for sharing.

Watched today's episode and while I was glad to see some time spent on the models, I am not sure if we need another '32 Ford Roadster kit. Granted it will be a tie-in to the show and probably have something to do with next year's contest, but I have enough '32 kits to last me a lifetime. It would be nice to see something else kitted from that show that isn't as common- like the Copperhead Chevy Pickup, the V-8 Miata, any of the late model Jeeps he has done- something new!

Real or Model #172 FINISHED
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I got it right but the telling sign for me is that the edges of the car seemed fuzzy to me, like the photo was "chopped" onto the background. It has been awhile but I spent 10 years in catalog/brochure production and I know that today's technology is more advanced than what I worked with back in the 90's. I do remember seeing photo's imposed on backgrounds in some of my past work and it was easy to catch but today I need to study it much closer in order to pick it out. It was tough Harry, glad you won! -
MCM 160 Is Out
mikemodeler replied to Chuck Most's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wish I could comment here other than to say that someday my issue will come! It is nice to hear the comments about what is in the mag, makes me run to the mailbox everyday hoping that it is here! -
Real or Model #172 FINISHED
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I am with Mark on this one, I think that there has been some serious photochopping on this one- several things catch my eye- so I will stick with my original vote. Less than 36 hours to go to find out what the answer is! -
Boyd Coddington´s famous cars...
mikemodeler replied to Drago's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If there is a specific car you may be able to find some information on it but a complete catalog.....I don't think so. Like Double D mentioned, there wasn't much on his website back in the day and with the way people cycled in and out of his shops over the years, there were literally tons of cars built there. -
Real or Model #172 FINISHED
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Definitely photoshopped on to the background but hard to say if it is real or model..............I will find out Friday if my streak is alive or over! -
I like the red much better than the gray, even though the red is more common. That has come along quite nice and should be a great looking car when done. I hope to get to a show this coming weekend and Porky should be there with some resin and I think I need to get one of those chassis! Thanks for showing the updates.

So, now that you are married, are you aware of the three rings of marriage? 1. The engagement ring. 2. The wedding ring. Wait for it.................................. Almost there.............................. 3. The Suffer- ring !!!!!! Congrats, heres to many years of happiness! My wife and I will celebrate 21 years in 10 days and in typical fashion, I will be out of town on bizness. Makes about the third or fourth time I will not be home.....and she still let's me back in the house!

Chevrolet van
mikemodeler replied to ufe 64's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice start and I like the color choices! It will be nice to see this van back on the shelves later this year/early next year, whenever it comes out. -
Harry, you are hired for next year's contest! I will stop improving my skills and just let you work your magic. I will be sure to give you props as I accept my award, much like the actors do at the Academy Awards! Okay, enough kidding around, I think the contest did what Revell wanted and from the sounds of it, those of us that didn't enter this year will get our chance next year.

July Issue- did I miss it ?
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the replies, I was afraid my neighbor had taken up the hobby and might start going through my stash! Hopefully the July issue will be here soon. -
I was catching up on my reading last night and could not find the July issue of MCM. I was on vacation last month and while I trust my neighbor to bring in my mail, I did not find the July isse amongst the unread mail. While I don't believe he has taken up the hobby, he does have a bird and I am afraid he may have used the July issue to line the bottom of the cage! Anyone know if the July issue was sent out? I may have to confront the neighbor if it was!

'75 Jeep CJ5 plow
mikemodeler replied to Nick Winter's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice job there Nick, looks like a real vehicle. I remember seeing many of those back when I lived in the midwest, many of them sat all summer long and once October came around, they would be dragged out of the field and prepped for duty. Your skills continue to improve and impress.....keep them coming! -
Stepp´s CAN DO

As many others have said, very nice work and excellent details. I will be watching to see how this turns out. -
revell bagged kits?
mikemodeler replied to Aaronw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Michaels' used to hold an event called "The Knack" which was a Saturday build at their stores. I remember going there with my daughter and she and I each built one of the Concept Camaro's from Revell. This was about 4 years ago and then I remember seeing those same kits in their closeout section for $5.00 each and I drove to every Michael's I could find to scoop them up but only got 3 more kits. They also did that with the Impala police car kit and I was able to 3 or 4 of them. Revell is great about offering up the kits cheap (basically at cost, I think) for events in the hopes that it will generate interest and future customers. -
where do you buy paints in quantity?
mikemodeler replied to DrewCfromSC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Drew, You do not mention any specific colors, brands, or sizes but assuming you are talking about the typical hobby sprays, check with a LHS and see if he would cut you a break if you ordered in quantity. He might be able to get a break from his supplier if he places a large order. You might also check with Tower Hobbies as they will offer discounts on some products if you order them in quantity. I would also check with Modelroundup as they have started carrying paint as of late. Please let us know what you find out! -
Proposed new forum topic
mikemodeler replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now see there, who knew the General Lee had air conditioning? M/T valve covers? I will have to get busy sourcing those parts for my version. Question for you accuracy fanatics- What color blue is that on the inner fenders and firewall? I want to be sure that I am correct for fear of being scolded here on the forum. -

mikemodeler replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Let's take it a step further and include all Generals ! I mean why should we limit it to just General Lee? Aren't there other Generals out there, like General Motors? Really folks, it is a hobby, that is all! (for me at least, life is too short)
