  1. I have used many methods- Tamiya stand, old spray can, blocks of wood, coat hanger- but use my Tamiya stand the most. It is spring loaded and holds the body tight. For smaller pieces I use a large paint stirring stick from Home Depot with doubled over tape to hold them while painting. Makes it easy to manipulate it for complete coverage. I got an email from Micro-Mark today, they are having a sales and have discounted their shipping. Check with them or any of the other online retailers and you could probably find a dozen different ways to hold a body or parts for painting. Like just about anything else in this hobby, we all have different methods to acheive similar results so don't be afraid to try something!
  2. looking good there Jeff, I like the idea of a separate bed/cab. The chassis lift looks spot on and just the right height. Those look like tires from Ma's Resin, am I correct? If so, where did the wheels come from? I just got some tires from Ma's and am looking for some different wheels to use with them. Get this thing done and show us how it looks! Would also be curious to see that Scrambler body (hint hint).
  3. that car just reeks of sleeper! Nice color choice and excellent details.
  4. Like what Harry??? Inquiring minds need to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Jim, Sorry that you have chosen to leave but hopefully you will have a change of heart after a break from being here. I too get tired of the antics but do try to make visiting here a daily ritual as it helps me feel connected to the modeling world. Hope to see you back here, maybe a vacation is in order and you will reconsider. Mike
  6. I am not a cat person but gotta admit that you are blessed to have one that was looking out for you. I agree that some nice Albacore tuna is in order, maybe even a new play toy!
  7. JohnnyG- I hope you rethink your response to the posts to your questions. I read them all and I see forum members here looking out for your safety. The issue of sealed motors and hazardous fumes has been addressed here in many posts and I think what most were trying to say is that the cost savings of using parts from a clothes dryer versus buying a paint booth that has parts specifically engineered for painting is not always worth it. A trip to the ER or spending time in a burn ward will cost much more than what you can save by building a booth with parts that may OR may not be safe. I don't think anyone wants to read about any members here being injured trying to get that killer paint job on a model, especially if it could have been prevented. Hope it all works out well and show us your results, I am interested in seeing it!
  8. Nick (or anyone else with an answer), If calling him is the best way to find out what is available, can one place an order at that time and be assured that it will be on it's way? I have had my eye on a couple of resin kits for some time but had reservations because Randy has been busy.
  9. Not sure if our military was responsible for bringing this evil person to justice but whomever is I would like to say thank you. The havoc that man and his group brought to our shores nearly 10 years ago should be something that we all never forget and hopefully we won't. My only fear is now his followers will have a renewed sense to carry out more attacks and I hope we are prepared to meet them head on and prevent them. While this is great news, I am cautious about what the coming days will bring to this world.
  10. To add to James' and Wayne's comments, I will say this. I buy my primers and basic colors in large spray cans as it makes economical sense. I bought a can (16 oz I think) of Duplicolor primer yesterday at the auto parts store for $5.39, I could buy a can of Testor's Model Master primer for about the same price but about 1/4 the size. Looking around at some of the online sellers of paint (MCW comes to mind), you can have a much larger variety of colors and if you are looking for a specific color for an older vehicle, they are your ticket. I have 2 older Camaro builds on my shelf that a friend painted for me about 15 years ago. At the time he went to a body shop supply store and bought some Hugger Orange to spray my bodies and a couple of his as well with his airbrush. Today I can go to a hobby shop and get a can of Testors Hugger Orange and spray without using an airbrush like my friend did. The only down side to buying specific colors from a body shop supply store is that they typically sell quarts of paint (some might sell pints) but unless you have a bunch of vehicles to paint the same color, small jars from places like MCW are a better way to go. I have had an airbrush for 15 years and still struggle with it. Maybe I am lazy, but I like to spray with a can as that is my comfort zone. I have vowed to use my airbrush more this year but have been too busy to take the time to do so. I can shake a can for 2 minutes and 30 minutes later the car is covered in color. I suggest you use whatever method works best for you, time, money, and results wize.
  11. Very Nice there Peter! I like the colors and the details. I am holding off on any more tri-fives until the feeling comes back to my hands after the last two '57s and the BMF experience!
  12. Harry, I think any person that was on the SA forum and came here came for the statement you made above. Over there the mod had a hair trigger on anything. I appreciate your style and I think Gregg has a lot to be thankful for by having your help here. We just need to move past the nonsense and keep this about building models, plain and simple.
  13. Spent the weekend getting some projects done outside since the weather cooperated. Really sad to log in this evening after not being here for 48 hours and seeing some of the nonsense that went on. I won't fan the flames or flog the horse but I do agree that Gregg or his designated "policers" should do whatever it takes to keep this a place about model cars and not let it slip into character attacks and peeing contests. As was stated several times- if you don't like something, move on and let it be. As my Mom continues to tell me (at age 86!)"Michael, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!" Good advice for all of us and especially those that tend to pontificate at times. There, I have chimed in and now it is dinner time!
  14. My Mom had 2 wagons as I was growing up and neither one looked ANYTHING close to this! That is very nice Steve, excellent details and great paint. I have a 66 wagon that I need to spend some time finishing, thanks for the inspiration.
  15. I have not used Ross Gibson products but another alternative for a nice big block is the 572 from VCG Resins. Craig Hosfeld is the proprietor of VCG and he is a member here (MannyClub). His is a nice engine and I will be using it real soon in a build I am planning. His service time was excellent! I did look at some of the Ross Gibson engines when I was on the RPP Hobbies website yesterday but they were out of stock. Not sure when they were going to have more in stock but they did have them on sale which probably explains why they didn't have any!
  16. Jim, I once lived in the area and I can say without question it will be worth your while to drive to these two shops. Model Empire is a great hobby shop and has a ton of stuff to drool over! Greenfield News & Hobby has a ton of stuff to look at as well. They also have a great selection of magazines to pick from. Check out Mapquest and plug in the addresses for these locations and I don't think it will be that far out of your way. There are several other hobby shops in the Milwaukee area that would be worth visiting if you have the time.
  17. Some really nice models there, hard to believe that the show was across the pond considering the number of US cars in the pictures! Nice paint and eye for detail in every build shown.
  18. That paint looks fantastic! How much clear did you lay on it to get it so deep? Looking great, should be a beauty when done.
  19. looks good dropped down a few inches. I would suggest painting those wheels to match the roof, they seem out of place in gray.
  20. Thanks for posting those other shows Tom & Richard, I forgot about them this morning when I originally posted and just remembered them tonight! Hope to see you guys there!
  21. That move has already paid off for you Clay ! Hope you have found some stuff there at the HTU, nice place to visit.
  22. Looks good Ron, one question though...why does the cab sit up higher than the bed, or is it an illusion?
  23. Ed, There is a show and swap meet in Simpsonville (Greenville area) South Carolina on Saturday May 14. A bit of a drive for you but that is all that I am aware of at this time. I will check around and let you know of any other events. Hope all is well...............
  24. The Modelhaus offers a stock hood for the AMT 67 Impala for $4.50. They have many "stock" parts for cars of many years and makes. Check them out.
  25. WOW ! With a paint job like that, I don't think there is much need for any emergency lights on it ! That is definitely eye catching and very well detailed! Thanks for sharing.
