  1. Think they'll warp after a few years like acetate promos? Fortunately most of us here will be long dead by then.
  2. Very cool, very pretty car! I think I might have seen these at Rite-Aid some time back, before I knew what they were or had started my "cool sports cars" collection. The next one of these I see at Rite-Aid is mine! Thanks for posting it!
  3. Huh. I guess the prices on my local gas pumps, which have been rising constantly for the last 3 or 4 months, are lying.
  4. My very first model was an airplane, I don't remember which one but a very early one was the Aurora F9F Panther. I must have been around 5. My first model car was a Monogram Ford Woody (I still have it, but not sure exactly where it is at the moment.) I didn't consider myself a "car guy" or car modeler then, just thought woodies were kinda cool for some reason. I started getting into cars in 1966. My first one then was a Palmer '66 Mustang "GTO" (that's what it said on the box!) and I bought it because it was 99 cents and the AMT kits were $1.50 and $2.00. I learned my lesson about Palmer FAST! My next two car kits were the AMT '66 Corvair Corsa and '66 Riviera, but I don't remember which one came first. And then I was off and running!
  5. Thanks! Wow, you sure improved that front pan/skirt area over what comes out of the box. I've been working on that area on a couple, and am not satisfied with it yet. Good job hollowing out the grille, too. Drive on!
  6. I know. That's why this thread is titled "Buy It NOW?" instead of "Why Oh Why Didn't I Buy That Kit Last Spring?" Most of us here probably have enough to work on for the rest of our lives. And yet we keep wanting, and buying.
  7. Yup. The biggest "hobby shop" in my town was about 20% of a hardware store. Even grocery stores in my town sold model kits! One of my fantasies is to go back in time to those times for day, with $200 in my pocket.
  8. Very! Rock-Ola is one of the most sought-after M1 carbine manufacturers today (they made jukeboxes), along with Winchester (the only actual gunmaker who made carbines) and IBM (a name everyone knows and respects). I have two, an Inland (division of GM, the most prolific carbine manufacturer) and a Quality Hardware. Your $20 Rock-Ola in good condition would today likely bring on the high side of $1000.
  9. I've been hearing reports that due to the pandemic and other factors, a number of raw materials--steel, lumber, packaging materials, and many others--are in short supply and this is expected to get worse before it gets better. One of the things in tighter supply is petroleum, from which our beloved styrene is made. Hasbro has already announced price increases on plastic toys due to the current and expected shortages. You can confirm this yourself by googling Hasbro price increase. Here's a quote from one such story: “Hasbro Inc (HAS.O) said on Tuesday it would raise prices of toys and games to counter higher raw material costs as the company sees surging demand for its Nerf blasters and board games from families spending more time at home. “Freight and input cost increases have become more pronounced over the past several months, and we have plans in place to help mitigate those costs, including price increases for the second half of the year,” Hasbro Chief Financial Officer Deborah Thomas said. The toymaker, like most U.S. manufacturers, has had to contend with rising resin, packaging and metal prices, as well as soaring transportation costs due to high demand and supply disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. I'm sure our kitmakers will feel these pressures as well, and I foresee that prices will rise and supplies could be short. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to buy any current kit(s) you've been wanting NOW--who knows what prices will be in a few months, or if you'll be able to get what you want at all? It's an absolute certainty that nothing's going to get any cheaper in the foreseeable future. I've already made a couple purchases because of this, and will probably make a few more. Just sumthin' to think about....
  10. I ran across this quote today in one of my gun magazines. It really does apply to so much of life, doesn't it? "It has often been noted you could be driving across the Sahara desert at noon on July 4 and still run a significant risk of striking a deer with your automobile. However, when you are totally camouflaged, doused in malodourous doe urine costing $10 per minuscule bottle and have been sitting immobile for hours in prime woodland habitat, there are no [expletive deleted] deer within 100 miles."
  11. Looking good! Ismo, it looks like you're working with the AMT '55 sedan kit, but the front end doesn't look like that kit's--it looks way better. Is the front end from another kit, or an aftermarket item, or did you modify the AMT parts?
  12. I'd like to see the "Custom Corvette" (ex-Mako Shark II) again. Of course, it would be even WAY cooler if Round 2 could/would restore it to original Mako Shark II specs.
  13. I just read a writeup on that--hadn't heard of it before. It performed pretty well from what I recall of the review. The one I ordered is a replica of an M1 Carbine. I have one of the old Crosman M1 BB guns, which is cool and fun and nostalgic, but I'm expecting the new one to be way better.
  14. I've been trying to talk myself into a new air rifle for basement and backyard shooting for several months now. Last week I decided to pull the trigger on the buy (no pun intended) but wanted a question answered based on some problems I'd read about in online reviews. Emailed the vendor's customer service the question. It took them a week to get back to me with the answer I wanted to hear. So I go on their site to order one and of course they're sold out. Oh of course they had the "deluxe" model available, which is $100 more, but I didn't want it $300 worth. The one I want won't be available until September! Several other vendors didn't have it, either. Finally tonight I found it at a vendor I've never heard of but decided to take a chance. Price was right, too. Everything went smoothly until checkout, when it said it couldn't match my billing address to my credit card. Entered it several different ways, no joy. Finally I gave up and paid by PayPal (which is paid by the same credit card anyway) and it finally went through. Been trying to avoid using PayPal for various reasons. I hope this thing turns out to be worth all the headaches and hassles.
  15. Ferrari 250 GTO! Well, not on the road, but on an old episode of Crime Story, set in 1964, which I've been watching on Pluto TV (free and worth every penny). Wouldn't have bothered to mention it except this episode ALSO had a '63 Vette coupe and a square-headlight Avanti. And, for airplane buffs, a DC-3, a Beech 18, and a classic Ford Tri-Motor! Quite a collection of historical machinery in one TV show.
  16. What? The '67 Corvette doesn't make the list, either as the Streaker or the Night Stalker? Not that we really NEED that one back, of course, but it's still better and more desirable than a few of the others....
  17. Yeah--that's what grabbed me about it and said "Take me home!" to me.
  18. Weren't those molds upgraded into the new, improved Malco Gasser and reissued just a few years ago?
  19. Great swap fodder, John! SOMEBODY here will want them and offer to trade you something you want for them.
  20. Okay then! Here 'tis. I polished the white plastic body, and shot a bunch of white primer on the inside to make the color a bit more opaque. Doesn't look bad for a $5 toy show find.
  21. This pic reminded me a LOT of a '65 Galaxie "Day 2" car I just finished a "rescue" on last week. Would love to post a pic but don't want to hijack your thread, so will wait for your blessing/permission.
  22. I'm not a fan of that body style, but that's nice green plastic! If I ever just happen to run across one of these cheap, I'll pick it up. Thanks!
  23. I was wondering when one of you would celebrate this. Only took a few years!
  24. Several of the kits posted above have been reissued in recent years. Others would be better NEVER reissued again. But there are at least a few in there that should be of interest.
  25. I sprayed some Krylon last week that's STILL stinking.
