  1. Same here. I was making good money around 2008-09 or so and went on eBay and bought a bunch of stuff I'd been wanting for years. Paid pretty steep prices at that time but nothing like what they are now. I still have most of it to build, too--I just finished one of them up a couple weeks ago.
  2. So I guess what they say is true--there's no such thing as "bad" publicity. He shoots, he scores!
  3. I wonder if it will end up in Seinfeld's collection?
  4. Lotta that going around these days.
  5. Were those 1/32? I don't think I've EVER seen an AMT 1/25 retail for $1, and I started building them in 1966, when some of the smaller ones (Mustang, Corvette roadster) were $1.50 but most were $2.00. The next year all AMT kits were $2. MPCs were always $2 AFAIK.
  6. AMT has done the classic solid vinyl Firestone Supremes with red and blue stripes, but they're kinda rare. One kit I know that had them was the original annual '67 Camaro.
  7. Finally GOTTER DONE! Off to Under Glass, see you there soon, I hope!
  8. Thanks to this thread, I've been able to add a few molded-green cars to my stash. Here's the first two I've managed to finish for my Polished Plastic shelf, just in the last month or so: AMT Craftsman '66 Skylark GS, and AMT Cobra 260.
  9. Be advised: "Parchment" was a term often used by the automakers back in the day because it sounded richer/more exotic than plain old "white," which it actually was.
  10. Finished the Galaxie rescue. I ended up with four coats of the white primer on the insides of the hood, trunk lid, and main body. Not sure how well it'll show up in pics but I can see it in 3D--it doesn't look like nice white paint, of course, but the difference is about like the difference between skim and whole milk, if that makes sense. The color is just a bit more "solid" than it was. Before and After pics:
  11. It's here again! I feel the urge to work on something with an L72 or L88 in it. Or maybe I'll start the Dyno Don Cammer Maverick project I've been assembling pieces for.
  12. I'd forgotten about the movies! We saw a bunch of them, all from the Ohio State Police, in the school auditorium on a big screen. The only title I remember is Mechanized Death.
  13. Two other things I remember from Driver's Ed: The VERY first thing we did was go on the interstate. "I know y'all want to get out there and go 70 mph, so let's go do that and get it out of the way," the guy said. And we did! Tooling around town came later. Also, there would normally be three students and the instructor in the car. Our instructor would always, for some reason, wait until I was driving to start telling the most hilarious, gut-busting, and filthiest jokes any of us had ever heard. It's a miracle I didn't have a major crash laughing so hard.
  14. Cool topic! My school's driver ed program had a fleet (maybe 8 or 10 or 12) of GM vehicles. I think they were mostly '70 Impalas but there was one Chevy truck and one Pontiac Tempest/Lemans. The first day we actually drove I picked the Pontiac, just 'cause it was smaller. Not sure if I ever got to drive that one again or not, I think mostly after that it was the Impalas. I think I drove the truck once, but not 100% sure. My Mom's car at the time was also a '70 Impala, light green with dark green vinyl top and interior. That's the car I took my driver test in.
  15. Very nice, very clean! And thanks for including all the details. Well done and model on!
  16. If you don't mind my asking, what's with the *Asterisks* on all your thread titles?
  17. The Revell Snapper looks most accurate to me. For a hardtop, of course. I don't see anything wrong with the Revell sedan either.
  18. So THAT's where all the Double Dragster kits went back in the '60s! And it looks like many of the Allisons, too. This guy had quite an imagination! Anything complete enough to be cleaned up and displayed as a nice survivor?
  19. Looks like you and I were pretty much on the same page.
  20. The wheels look good painted black.
  21. I've thought of it, believe me. If I ever get the urge to build another AMT '57 (and I have another one in the stash), I'll probably replace the body with one from a Revell snapper.
  22. You're right, that side strip's not right, but I never noticed that until just a couple years ago when someone pointed it out. The side "spear" is still better than the one on the MPC flip-front sedan, which has kept me from building that kit until I can figger out how to fix it, despite owning three of the things.
  23. Very nice! A high school friend had one of these. Drive on!
  24. Thousands of nice models have been built from this kit. I was pretty pleased with how mine came out.
  25. If it shows up at my local bookstore, I'll sure give it a look. But I won't order it without a better idea of the contents.
