1/25 AMT 1964 Olds Cutlass F85 Convertible
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This is a trick I've had to use several times in the last few months when trying to mate parts-box mongrel wheels with parts-box mongrel tires. On the most recent, it took four or five or maybe six layers of wrap to gitter done, but gitter done I did, and it doesn't show at all on the finished model. -
Very, VERY nice! I hear that's not an easy kit to build but you've done a fine, fine job with it. AND you've managed to capture the authentic "'60s gasser" look better than many American-built models I've see. VERY well done and model on!
-
I have one in the Snakepile, but I doubt I'll ever build it. Now that I've seen that kink in the spear trim, I can't un-see it, though it didn't bother me a second when I built mine about 30 years ago. I might cut the rear wheel openings out of the body and graft them into the MPC flip-nose gasser. I can't stand the lower trim line of the spear on that one, either, but I might have figgered out a way to fix it. And if it doesn't work, I can shave off all the trim and build it slick-sides, which is okay for a sedan but just doesn't work for me for a hardtop.

Chuck, you just made my Favorite People List. OH-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
-
I WISH every kit I built had a problem no more difficult to fix than that hole in the firewall. Model on, everyone!

Your door lines look better now. This is how you do it: Blacken the gaps before paint, and then leave them alone. For the future: Don't scribe the tulip pane lines (below the backlight) so deep, and don't darken them at all. This is a welded seam, not a movable panel, and should be seen as body color. Maybe you can still get some body color in there with a brush or something. Drive on!

It arrived today, only two days late, which I guess should be considered super-service these days. On the happy side, the look and feel of the thing is AWESOME and that's a word I don't abuse or use lightly. If I hung it on the wall, it would easily fool 99.5% of the people who saw it into think it's a real M1 Carbine. Minor gripe: this front sight also arrived canted to the right, and fact completely loose! Looks like it's held on with a setscrew, like the other one, and I'm hoping it's an easy fix. Haven't shot it yet, looking forward to it.

Does the trunk have anything to do with the roof type? There were two different roofs. -
If you car wasn't keyed or the tires flat when you came back out, you won! Congratulations!

That was my first reaction, too.

MPC 1/25 Corvette 1967 - can it be built stock?
Snake45 replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I don't believe it does. Most if not all of the reissues of that kit were "street machine" only, I believe. It could be converted back to stock, but why bother? It's not that good a kit anymore anyway, what with the Revell kit now available. I encourage you to keep looking for one of those. -

It also looks like the kit is molded in light gray. The AMT '69 Impala was molded in white, AFAIK (except of course for promos). -

I am REALLY enjoying this show! The race between JJ and Daddy Dave was one of the prettiest things I've seen in a long time. Fun to see Tricia spank Lizzie Musi's shapely butt handily twice in a row, especially in light of the probably $ value investment of the two cars. Lizzie was NOT at all happy about her second loss to Tricia, and even unhappier about her next loss, too. I thought she was gonna go full-tantrum on the spot. Also fun to see Axman take the top slot from Kye Kelly. I don't think he can hold on to it, but for at least this one moment, Memphis is on top! Predictions: Ryan Martin will continue to climb and finish in the Top 3. Chuck doesn't even seem to have a chance to climb out of the bottom 10 at this point. I don't think Precious does, either. I wonder if JJ swaps Kaiser Blade out for Heifer and starts her over at #20? (Remember, we did see a brief view of Heifer in the first preview show, so we know it shows up with somebody sooner or later.) I'm just not seeing Chucky (Detroit) finishing in the top half of the Top 10. He really hasn't done all that well in many/any of these multi-car meets. I don't see Murder Nova staying near the top, either. -
Now that y'all mention calls, I had one of those too, last week--from an Indian woman I could hardly understand. Most of my junk calls want to buy my house, or offer some home "improvement" service, or are trying to shake me down for some fake "police" grift organization. Have y'all been getting these recruiting efforts for a long time? Mine just started in the last two weeks, which is why I associated them with two new net vendors I've used.
-
I'm being deluged by email "job offers." I have no idea if any of these is even legit--they might all be spam, phishing, or multi-level sales offers. I don't open them. Must get at least a dozen a day. This is especially weird because I haven't been job hunting in over a year, and when I am looking for a job, I have a special email for that, I NEVER use my normal everyday email. I've done business with two new online vendors in the last week or so, and I can only think that one or both of them sold my name and email.

Sure looks like a '70 grille/bumper to me. Nice '69 box, though. -
I remember that storm very well. Pretty much shut down PG county for two or three or four days.

No problem. SnakeACP45 at AOL dot com

The funny part is, I had a lively email exchange going with one of the customer service people BEFORE I actually placed the order. Haven't heard a word from him/them since they got my money. Though I have to say, the shipment speed was very impressive. So is the product itself, or would be without the broken part.

Kits they never issued- but should have
Snake45 replied to Paul Payne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The OP said: Everybody has one- a list of models never released, not released in a scale you build, or only as something so inaccurate as to be useless. -
Looks like what Green Hornet would have driven in the '50s. Very cool!

AMT 62 Bel Air grills.
Snake45 replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I noticed when the kit was first introduced that the peaks at the front fenders were rounded off, where they should be sharp. I don't know if this is what's being talked about or not, but if it is, the body would have to be corrected too. -
First rifle I ordered hasn't yet showed up on USPS tracking, and it was supposed to be delivered today. Still haven't heard back from customer service on the second rifle, so I sent them a second email today. Meanwhile, I figgered out how to adjust the front sight back to straight-up, which was the dealbreaker. Have now fired ten shots through the thing and I think I like it. The broken part is mainly cosmetic and I can live with it (or maybe even fix it), especially if they offer me some sort of concession. I don't think it would be worth the hassle of returning it, waiting for a replacement (which, given the apparent current situation in the airgun world, who knows if a replacement is even available at this time?), and then sweating damage and functionality of the replacement.
-
Not too bad! Looks like the AMT kit. It's always fun to take a "not all there" kit and drag it across the finish line--Improvise! Adapt! Overcome! And, as always, Model On!

Might have been before your time. I think you're a couple years younger than me. This would have been in the late '50s or VERY early '60s. Then WS went on to portray Ronald McDonald (I don't know if this was nationally or just locally). I don't know when he was the WRC weatherman, if he was that this whole time, or what. Of course he later went on to do weather for Today show and he's known nationally for that.
