  1. That's a sweet-looking model!
  2. Did the first actual model work since my stroke last April, on that new Jada 1/24 '67 El Camino. Took it apart and sanded the tire treads, painted white behind the headlights and front parking lights, and masked off the too-thick "chrome" vent windows so I could paint the frames black. The latter was tedious work and took over an hour; I'd been dreading that task so am glad it's out of the way. Tomorrow I hope to detail the grille, and paint and detail the wheels. Final task will be touching up all the "chrome" trim with Silver Sharpie. Might finish it tomorrow but more likely over the weekend or early next week. It's good to be modeling again!
  3. Ooh, just remembered, for an even later BOYD build, I finished an original-issue AMT '69 Ford Galaxie I started in 1969. And just remembered two others: original first-issue annual MPC '69 Firebird started in 1969, and original annual issue MPC '68 Corvette. The Firebird will probably never be finished (now that I know how bad that kit really is); there is SOME hope for the Corvette.
  4. Not sure what my oldest unfinished NOW might be, but a couple years ago, for the BOYD project, I finished an IMC VW Beetle I started around 1969 or 1970. I think I have several others of similar vintage around here somewhere.
  5. Was shocked today to learn of the death on February 11 of Austin Majors, who played Theo, the young son of Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) on NYPD Blue. Cause of death is undisclosed. Apparently he was an intelligent and creative young man. What a shame. Born November 23, 1995 in Kern County, California, USA Died February 11, 2023 in Los Angeles, California, USA (undisclosed) Birth Name Austin Setmajer-Raglin Mini Bio Austin Majors was a scholar as well as an actor, skipping a grade, and getting high marks in all subjects. Majors graduated second in his high school class in 2013. He later studied at the University of Southern California in the School of Cinematic Arts, majoring in Film and Television Production, minoring in Music Industry. Majors was a brother of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. An avid outdoorsman, hes was a junior assistant Scoutmaster in Boy Scouts. He has earned scouting's highest rank, obtaining the honor of Eagle Scout at the age of fourteen. Majors liked helping others and lent his support to a variety of charitable causes including Kids with a Cause, the Ronald McDonald House, and the Jonathan Jaques Childrens Cancer Center. When not in front of the camera, he enjoyed making films of his own, backpacking, riding horses, attending concerts, traveling and playing sports. Majors received the Young Artists Award for Best Performance in a Television Series for his compelling work on NYPD Blue. His work on Treasure Planet earned him another nomination for Best Performance in a Voice Over Role.
  6. It inspired me to send him some VERY rare vintage custom parts and pieces, because I knew he'd make great use of them. And he didn't disappoint me! Great idea! And they should throw in a free lifetime subscription to the rag, too.
  7. Sweet score, Swede, well worth $25, I'd have been all over that, too. And great resto/cleanup job--I LOVE that kinda work! Well done and model on!
  8. That cap looks like their Bronze lacquer--a nice color, I've used it. What does the label say? The paint's name is in fine print just above the UPC code.
  9. This reminds me a little of Credence, and also early ZZ Top. Well worth a listen.
  10. The Lovely Mrs. Snake was in a fender-bender similar to this about a month ago. Completely destroyed the right front fender and headlight bucket (and a very small dent in the right side of the hood) but--and I'm not sure how--left the front bumper and grille completely intact. The bill was over 6K (2015 Honda Civic). No talk of totaling it. The local Honda shop did an excellent job of fixing it and I think it now runs better than ever.
  11. That wouldn't have made any difference in the case I described.
  12. Stopped at HL Monday to pick up some needed paint. Specifically needed White Lightning spray (white pearl lacquer) and also either Flaming Orange or Fiery Orange, I never can remember which but I wanted the darker one. Anyway, only can in the White Lighning slot had a metallic orange cap on it, so I passed. Went over to the metallic orange slot, one can there, too, same orange top but now I'm wary and want to see which one it is. Took me a minute but I finally found the name on the label--White Lightning! So I checked the can in the White Lightning slot (with the orange top) and it ALSO said White Lightning! I was feeling lucky and figgered I could eventually use either orange on something, so I bought them both. Just tested--at least one of them IS in fact White Lightning, so I lucked out. Anyway, the moral of the story is, if buying Testor spray cans (especially at Hobby Lobby), double-check the label and don't automatically trust the plastic cap color.
  13. To be honest, I thought he already WAS dead. Obviously I was thinking of someone else. (Richard Lewis, maybe?) Well, he made the Best Celebrity Death Trifecta of All Time: Raquel Welch, Stella Stevens, and him. If you gotta go, man, that's going in style!
  14. Thanks for the kind words. Was looking at it again last night and discovered that the bed is a separate plastic piece, which raises the hope they COULD eventually do a stock version (with no tubs). I checked on DM '68 Elkys on ebay last night. Several of them on there with prices both north and south of $100--I think the lowest I saw was in the 70s. Which isn't bad for as nice a model as it it. I bought mine at the local toy show a few years ago for $25, no box, but it DID include the accessories (spare tire, bed cover, etc.).
  15. I'm hoping they'll eventually issue one more stock-ish and in Marina Blue.
