  1. Oh that is SO 2015. Today I'm seeing ads for firearms suppressors (commonly but incorrectly known as "silencers"). Although I'm interested in firearms, I've never googled suppressors (they're pretty expensive and wrapped in red tape) in my life. WTF?
  2. I see that today is AC Norton's birthday. Just realized I haven't seen a post from him in a LONG time. Whatever happened to him?
  3. And the weird dream continues.... Last week on eBay, I bought this AMT '66 Mustang, which appears to have been brush-painted with Pactra Leaf Green. It is almost exactly like the one in my dream, and the one I built in 1966. It will be lovingly restored!
  4. Sounds like the ultimate COOP FERRAY!! to me!
  5. I always thought Glocks looked and felt like something that should be sold in blister packages on hooks at Walmart. I see it's finally happening.
  6. Bought these two AMT '66 Mustang fastbacks off eBay last week. #1: Looks like maybe the OB was trying to model the real Tasca Ford '65 racer, working from B&W pics. (The real car appears to have been painted Vintage Burgundy to match their '64 Thunderbolt.) The rear wheel openings have been hogged out but that's fixable. I originally planned to strip and rebuild this one from the ground up, but it's kind of growing on me, and I might see if I can clean it up and Snake-Fu it into a presentable survivor. Black is easy to touch up. (The white GT stripe decals on the rockers are in bad enough shape that they'll have to go, though.) Has a complete engine, the Shelby-ish grille (the emblem is backwards), custom front pan, and the desirable Torq-Thrust wheels. Should be an interesting project. #2: This one was billed on eBay as a "funny car," but the only thing "funny" about it is that the OB had glued some mounting tabs on the chassis so he could run the wire axles BELOW the chassis. Easily undone! I was SHOCKED when I took this one out of the box, as it looked MUCH better than the eBay pics. On screen, it looked like the paint was very thin, or perhaps had been partially removed by sanding or chemical. The paint (seems to be Pactra Leaf Green) is actually in pretty decent shape as these things go (looks better in 3D than it does in these pics, even), and I think it will respond well to a light polish. This is meaningful to me because one of my first model cars was this very model, brush-painted with Pactra Leaf Green! This one looks a bit better than my original. It's got the "Shelby" grille, custom front pan, custom rear bumperless pan, and the (kit-included) '65 Thunderbird taillights. Biggest glitch is that the roof vents have been cut out '66 GT350-style, and it wasn't done perfectly, but I think I can come up with some sort of fix for that. I think it'll clean up into a nice "survivor" custom--it won't look quite as nice as the teal '65 that I restored last year, but it should look cool sitting on the shelf next to it. I need to find some kind of cool period-correct custom wheels for it. I think this one might go to the top of my "To Do" list.
  7. I too miss the Pactra paints, both the rattlecans and the little bottles. I also miss the old AMT rattlecan lacquers, although some colors now have usable substitutes in the Testor lacquer line.
  8. You're right, I forgot about Monza Red but that was only offered for Corvette. The red for all "lesser" Chevies was the Garnet Red.
  9. There was no local toy show in April (and all my Rite Aids are now Walgreens, BOOOOO!), so I haven't bought any new ones lately. Also, not much new at Walmart--I think the last one I bought there was the Jada '71 GTO, which was also the last diecast I worked on, over a month ago. With more time on my hands these days, I've been putting my effort into several more involved model kit projects. I know I have a diecast late '70s Vette awaiting my attention next time I need a quick slump-buster.
  10. It was available on '69 Corvettes and SS Chevelles (possibly SS El Caminos, too), where it was called Monaco Orange. Not sure about Novas. I don't believe it was available on Corvair or the full-size Chevies. The same color at Pontiac was called Carousel Red. I've only seen it on GTOs (it's kind of the iconic color for the '69 GTO Judge) and Firebirds. It might have been available on Tempest and Lemans, virtually a mood point here in Model Car World as to build a Tempest or Lemans you have to convert a GTO. BTW, if you're looking at color magazine photos of a restored (i.e., factory color) '69 Camaro and can't tell if it's bright red or Hugger Orange, it's Hugger Orange. GM's red that year (Chevy Garnet Red) was a dark red, similar to Testor #4 Red. For some reason it's not uncommon for HO-painted cars to look reddish in photography.
  11. I just found the place!
  12. Welcome home, SMcM! Good to have you back in the house. Now GITTER DONE!
  13. Next deadline is June 30, so you've got time.
  14. 52 replies? Then there must be at least 70 or 75 answers to the question.
  15. Got the frame from an AMT Double Dragster Fiat prepped and painted, along with most of the suspension, and started trimming the wheels. With a little luck I could have the frame up on the wheels tomorrow.
  16. Nassau Blue was not offered (standard, anyway) for 67 Corvette. It might have been possible to special order it and GM did a lot weirder special paint orders in those days. Marina Blue is a little darker and a little more blue than Nassau Blue. It might look a little darker shot over black primer. I've only ever used it over light gray. I think you could get away with it if you want to. If someone calls you on it, just claim "scale effect." Are you building Revell's roadster or coupe? The coupe is fine, but if you're building the roadster, you should be more concerned about the bloated, mis-shapened forward body than about your blue paint being a hair too light.
  17. There are several on eBay right now, and the prices aren't THAT bad (considering what common new kits sell for).
  18. There are a BUNCH of Miss Deals on eBay right now, at very reasonable prices. No excuse not to own one if you want one.

  20. An unbuilt '66 HT/Convertible kit sold for just under $60--less than half the wheel-less wonder fastback.
  21. Looks like a great BOYD candidate!
