Or how about this from Warren Zevon's "Roll with the Punches": "Johnny had a '57 Chevy, four on the floor and a 429." A 429? Why? Because it had to rhyme in the next lyric: "We used to take it out on Wild Horse Pike, run it out to the end of the line." As you said, it's all good.

  8. I'm mainly a Chevy/GM guy, but my favorite Mopars would be the '70 Cudas, especially the AAR, and the '69 Road Runner, especially the 440+6s. Sorry, I don't have pics.

The '66 Chevelle body is ready for primer. Notice that I've foiled the front fender crossed flag emblems; this will be the "foil under paint" technique.

  17. I recently bought three MCW bodies, and they're very nice. Shipment was pretty quick, too. I was very pleased with price, quality, and delivery.
  18. I have two. A custom varminter built on a Nazi action, Fajen stock, Douglas 26" bull barrel, Redfield 4-12X scope, in .243 (it weighs 16 pounds!) and a stone-stock Israeli rebarrel to 7.62 NATO.
  19. I got into my library to see what I could find out about the above. The B-17 dropping bombs--the only one I could identify from these pics--seem to be from the 457th Bomb Group. I have no information on what they did on D-Day, but in all the 8th Air Force flew nearly 2400 heavy bomber sorties on D-Day (B-17 and B-24), with most apparently targeted for "transportation targets" in the areas behind the beachhead. I assume "transportation targets" would include roads, bridges, and rail lines that could be used to bring up German reinforcements. Only one heavy bomber--a B-24--was lost to enemy action that day, though at least two other B-24s collided in midair. I would guess that the lower picture was made during training in the States. I've never seen an operational 8th AF B-17 carrying four large numbers on the nose like that, but those markings wouldn't be uncommon for a stateside training unit.
  20. I took a look at the Dyno Don book. Not much help. It confirms that the hardtop had a red interior. The wagon, in the B&W pics, seems to have a dark-ish interior, and in one seems to have a white headliner. The hardtop, with a red interior, also has a white headliner, as is clearly seen in the posted pic above. I didn't get the impression that the wagon gut was black, probably something like blue, red, or maybe even a tan. If I were modeling that wagon, I'd be tempted to go with red, absent further evidence. You might want to do some research and see what interior colors were available from the factory on the '64 wagons, and choose from that pallet.

  23. Factory Experimental, Modified Production, and Pro Stock are three different things, though somewhat related. Pro Stock was sort of descended from FX and MP, but the FX class was gone by the time Pro Stock appeared (1970). As I recall, Jenkins used Grumpy's Toy IV (the '68) for the first part of the inaugural 1970 season, and at some point transitioned into GT VI (the '69) for the rest of the season and maybe on into 1971 as he got GT VIII (the '70 1/2) sorted out. As I said, I don't have my books on hand at the moment.
  24. He mentions Pro Stock in the thread title. Pro Stock didn't come along until 1970. I don't have my rulebooks handy, but I think early Pro Stock rules allowed whatever size slicks you could cram into the wells. And it looks like that's pretty much what Grumpy has done in the above pic.
