Airfix Aston Martin DB6 - classic kit whats in the box
Snake45 replied to djflyer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
And here, AMT reissued some FROG 1/72 airplanes, about the same time MPC was selling the Airfix ones with the chrome junk. AMT's airplane line also had some from another company few American modelers had heard of at the time--Hasegawa. -

"Evergreen strips" aren't going to fix it correctly. The C-pillars are completely different, as is the profile of the whole roof. All depends on how much accuracy you want in the finished product, but that's entirely up to what makes YOU--and your client--happy. -

1968 Chevy Corvette 427 L/88 Convertible resto Update! 2/2/19

Looking good, but I'd have never guessed that was '68 Corvette Bronze. In the pics, it looks more like Hugger Orange or Hemi Orange. Maybe it looks darker in different light. -

Looks to me like the entire side window upper line needs to be raised into the roof, and then of course the door/window frames would have to be rebuilt. They had a relationship even before that--late '60s or very early '70s. On at least two different occasions MPC tried to market a line of Airfix 1/72 airplane kits--the first time with added chrome "customizing" parts, the second time with box art and decals tied to airplanes shown in the old Profile monographs. -

The car you're modeling is a sedan. The kit you're using is a hardtop. Big difference in roof shape. Model Car World makes a resin sedan body for this kit that's a direct drop-on. I bought one last year and found the price reasonable, the quality very high, and the delivery speed quick. If you want to build an accurate model (and it looks like you do), you might want to check it out. -
Thanks! Very helpful. This one's molded in white so it's definitely the '62.

Got these in recent trades with SamIAm and Gramps46, respectively. Not sure what year the 1st gen Corvair is (the chassis is one-piece with molded in engine, if that helps) so I'll call it a '64 until someone can tell me different. A funky-cool early '60s custom! The Revell dune buggy is called a Super Safari, I believe, and should look good when rebuilt next to the EMPI Imp I've been restoring for a while (and nearing completion). Looking forward to diving in on both of these, as soon as I get a couple of BOYD builds cleared off the bench.

Right back atcha, Sam! you're a goodguy and I'll trade with you anytime! I also recently completed excellent swaps with Gramps46 and Magicmustang, two more great traders!

Hmmmm. Looks to me like the wheelbase on the 6 is longer, maybe the whole car. Look at the "real estate" between the rear of the door and the front edge of the rear wheel opening.

Very interesting! Assuming that they really come out with a 4-door body, I'll be converting one to a 2-door. If the roofline doesn't look acceptably close to a real 2DS, I'll do it anyway, perhaps as a phantom "Bel Air 2DHT."

Ah, I see it now! Thanks for the pics. I'd be very surprised if the HT had a different windshield from the sedan(s). One way to research this might be to try to find part numbers for the replacement windshield, and see if it's applicable to all models. I'd be a bit surprised if that same windshield didn't fit ALL '67-'68 GM full-size sedans, hardtops, and wagons.

Oh my yes. Of my carefully assembled collection of original AMT '63-'67 Corvette annuals, the vast majority of them have these stupid seat belts glued in. Some of them can be removed but usually removal leaves permanent damage in the upholstery. And keep in mind that only the '65-'67 roadster kits had separate seats--the '63s and '64s and ALL the coupes (and I believe all the reissues) have the seats molded as part of the interior.

I'm just not seeing much--if ANY--difference between the 4D hardtop and sedans in roof profile. Of course you'd need to add the window frames to do a 4DS taxi or cop car, but I think the roof shape is fine. Assuming the 4DH profile is somewhere close to accurate, I'm hoping to turn one into a 2DS. I wonder if they'll bother to give us the optional lighted front fender caps, which are different from the standard units.

I have bunches of squirrels running through my back yard again today too. They don't bother me at all as long as they stay out of my house. After I eradicated the previous tenants and then had their entry securely sealed, I haven't had any more problems with illegal residents. They can do whatever they want in my backyard and trees. First one I see even trying to get in, though, I go back to war.

Beautiful! I'd be proud to have built that one. Well done and model on!

Oh. Yeah, that's the way I felt, too. I thought maybe you were disagreeing with my research.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

Dave, you're our FIFTH COMPLETION for this round! GOTTER DONE! Noted for the next update! -
I think he only ran it at that one race. There are a couple pics of it in the Landy book. Come to think of it, I might have scanned that pic above and sent it to Alan some time ago. I think this car looks much better than his other blue '67 cars--it fight right in with his silver branding he started using in, what, '63 (and went back to in '68)? I've never seen any explanation as to why his '67 cars were blue, but my theory is that Dodge wanted something that would work with the white vinyl tops to go with their "Good Guys Wear White Hats" 1967 advertising campaign.

Very, VERY nice! Great color choice and you're doing great with it! Drive on!

"Think ya used enough dynamite, there, ________?" (The name would give it away.)

That's not bad but I was thinking more of this one: I saw him clean up at the CARS meet in 1968, beating the likes of Jenkins, Sox, and Landy. Very impressive. I've never forgotten it.
