  1. It's more than just the tailgate. If you want to fix it, you'll need to lengthen the whole roof. If I were you, I'd just file off the Nomad tailgate chrome strips, and fill in the ribs on the roof and drive on. The Monogram 1/24 '57 Chevies aren't all that accurate to begin with anyway. Don't obsess about it, just drive on and have fun.
  2. Mow the lawn, and then I just got a couple new Rite Aid Rescue Welly diecasts I can Snake-Fu. Let's see if I can get them done before the board comes back up.
  3. Also, the entire tailgate and rear glass are at a sharper angle on the Nomad than on "regular" wagons, which makes the roof shorter as well. This might or not bother you. I built a '55 Sedan Delivery out of a Nomad when I was a teenager, before I knew or noticed this. It doesn't bother me all THAT much to this day, but I know that it would for a lot of people. I'd say you're off to a great start and should just drive on regardless.
  4. The right taillight on this (glue bomb rescue) Elky was scratchbuilt from a clear plastic Walmart blueberry container, colored with Red Sharpie inside and out--no paint at all. I think it looks pretty good. I've used Red Sharpie for taillights on my diecasts and several kits and been very happy with the results. I'll probably be doing it on another diecast this weekend.
  5. I guess my cap angle is about 60 degrees. It's the cap that came with the used Badger 200 I bought around 1970 and I haven't seen many like it, but it works for me. The bottles I bought at HL yesterday don't have any tubes, of course, just regular lids.
  6. Different and therefore interesting!
  7. Very interesting. Maybe I'll do my JoHan Mustang funny that way. Does Slixx have the decals?
  8. I just scored 6 1/2 oz bottles, which look very similar to Model Master bottles, for $6.99 at Hobby Lobby. Was so happy I bought two sets of them and only paid $4.19 for one with the coupon. As one of my airbrushes is set up to run the MM 1/2 oz bottles, I couldn't be happier! I'd never seen these there before--dunno if they're new or I'd just been overlooking them all this time.
  9. If you're interested, here's mine and my build comments. I really enjoyed building it. Good luck with yours--I think you'll enjoy it, too!
  10. Very, VERY nice! Great concept, great execution! You set out to do better than Chevy did and AFAIC, Mission Accomplished my friend! Well done and model on!
  11. I built the Revell metal-body 'AG '55 a few years ago and was VERY pleased with the way it came out. Interestingly, the Revell kit is probably more true to the intent and spirit of the movie car than the real movie car was. The non-flip front, stock front suspension, and 348/409 are much more "period correct" for 1962 than the 454, tube front, fiberglass-front veteran of Two Lane Blacktop. Have fun with it! I sure did.
  12. Posts are ridiculously easy to deal with. Push the lens into place, then paint the protruding back end with WHITE paint--not silver, chrome, or foil. WHITE. It simply vanishes. Have done this with many, many diecasts.
  13. Outstanding! GOTTER DONE! Noted for the next update!
  14. That's a beauty! I have a diecast '70 GTX in orange I like a lot. It looks almost exactly like the Monogram model, but it's in true 1/25, not 1/24 (I wonder if the Chinese do that to dodge copyright issues?). I forget who made it, but Crown doesn't ring a bell. It might be Maisto.
  15. Sweet! Never seen or heard of that one before. I'll have to keep my eye out for one of these. Looks like it would sit nice with my '67 and various '63s.
  16. I agree, it doesn't get much better than that for silver car paint. Although the best silver finish I've ever personally done was Model Master Metalizer Nonbuffing Aluminum over flat gray primer, and topped with several coats of their Metalizer Sealer and rubbed out.
  17. Good to see you score this. I know you love those '65 Fords and I can't think of anyone who would do a better job with it.
  18. What are the custom wheels/tires in this issue? Optional engine?
  19. Very clean build, nice "Day 2" job!
  20. If you "declare" it before it's finished (with a current status picture), it's still acceptable to enter in the BOYD Round 3 build.
  21. Very unusual invasion stripes, in both number and placement. Do you have a photo of a real one this way?
  22. I'm beginning to have hope for you! GITTER DONE!
  23. Yeah, that almost never happens.
  24. Very interesting, thanks! I don't actually need it for cutting; I found that the Dremel cutoff saw (used by hand) made a perfect ponce wheel for putting rivets on model airplanes, especially replacing raised rivets removed when joining and sanding fuselage halves and so forth.
