  1. Spitfire XVI under construction, with Frog Mk XIV (being converted to bubbletop XIV using the canopy and deck from another Matchbox XVI kit):
  2. Here are some (probably most) of the Matchbox 1/72 airplanes I've actually built. Might have pics of a couple others but might take me some time to find them. Spitfire IX converted to PR XI:
  3. Well, I tried to start a thread last night, but kept getting the stupid 404 error. I'll try again tonight....
  4. Looking good! So good, in fact, that I'd be tempted to just LEAVE it yellow!
  5. Super work! Looks real!
  6. Ah, I know that one! Was just looking at those magazines last week. Thanks!
  7. I got the 404 on a new message last night. Tried it several times (it stays in the window when I bring up the New Topic), no joy. Finally gave up and copied it all into a word document. It wasn't that much text, but it was eight photos from different files, which took a while to load. This morning the message was still available in the New Topic window but it still wouldn't post. If I have time tonight I'll try posting it one line at a time (or maybe deleting one line at a time); that's worked for me before, more or less.
  8. Now that is a very interesting question. And makes me wonder why we don't still have the Craftsman/promo '66 Skylark, '66 Impala, '65 Olds, etc.
  9. I'm pretty sure I've built two of the F4U-4s and I know I've built two Tempest IIs. Oh, I've built the FW190A, too. Others I have yet to build include the A-4M (started, ready for paint), F-104, F3D Skyknight, and UC-64 Norseman. Maybe some more. Oh wait, I'm pretty sure I've built at least one of the Spitfire XVIs. If I didn't finish it, it's near ready for paint. I have some of the bombers, too-- B-25, B-26, B-17, and PB4Y. Only reason I haven't built these is I can't decide if I want to build them gear down or gear-up on their display stands. ETA: Here's the AD-5, ready for paint. I've already pre-shot the finicky areas with GSB so laying on the color coats SHOULD be easy. While looking for this pic, I found that I've also built the Matchbox Spit IX as a PR XI, and the XVI isn't finished yet, but almost ready for paint. I could start a thread showing all or many of my Matchbox builds, if you'd like to see them.
  10. Improvise! Adapt! Overcome! GITTER DONE!
  11. Very cool!
  12. I've been reading through some old model car magazines. Was just looking through the April 1990 issue of Scale Wheels and saw this model in there. It was apparently built by a Barry L. Payne. There are three other '64 Mopars in the story--Lawman, Ramchargers, and Golden Commandos.
  13. For brushing and airbrushing, I've never found anything better than Model Master Black Chrome Trim. Lovely stuff, but now hard to find in my area, and Testor Semigloss Black isn't quite the same thing. For rattlecanning, I'll use Rustoleum or Krylon Satin Black.
  14. I own a bunch of the Matchbox kits, but haven't built them all. The ones I can remember building are the P-51D, F4U-4 Corsair, Mosquito, Hawker Tempest II, F-86A, and F-5A. I've had their AD-5 Skyraider (1/48) assembled and ready for paint for a couple decades now--really need to finish that one off. They're not the best kits, but they're usually troublefree and FUN builds.
  15. I see an ad for Denny's. How does it know I'm hungry?
  16. Exactly so. The Lovely Mrs. Snake learned years ago that if she dreamed up some "project" for me to do, she'd be invited to help, or it wouldn't get done. The list has been mercifully short since then.
  17. I bought one. The body is warped in a little on one side, but it seems to look okay with the interior and chassis installed. If I ever get around to building it, I'll do it as the Strickler/Jenkins car for my Grumpy collection.
  18. 19. Wasn't there something about a rumored long-lost model that was supposed to make an appearance? Any news on that? What's the story?
  20. For some reason, I've always liked the Buffalo, but have never owned much less built a model of it in any scale. Perhaps I should remedy that at some point in the future. I'm a fan of the simplicity of the old Matchbox kits.
  21. Don't hold your breath. With Revell's '69 and AMT's '72, the manufacturers no doubt consider the third-gen Nova "covered," either though neither kit is particularly good. What we might hope for is conversion front and rears for other years for one or the other (probably Revell's). What would really be awesome would be a fully corrected body and rear bumper for the Revell kit.
  22. Maybe someone in MAMA can make you a copy. I'd scan it for you, but my scanner doesn't want to talk to my computer lately for some unknown reason.
  23. They also made one called Design-A-Plane, with which you could build hundreds of combinations of '50-s era jet fighters (roughly 1/48 scale, more or less), some of them similar to real-world airplanes, and course many of them not. I had one as a kid, and bought one about a decade ago on eBay. It's a wonderful, amazing toy!
  24. Tim Boyd had an excellent article in the "other" magazine within the last year with all the diffs, and the last few little improvements that the kit needs.
