Here's a random headliner tip: If you're doing a white interior, you might assume the headiner is white, but you might be wrong--run a google-image search and check. For just one example, the headliner on '69 Camaros with white interior is black. And I've run across a couple other examples too.

Here's the most elaborate headliner I've ever done: White vinyl tape, laid side-to-side, in a '68 Javelin. It also holds the glass in.

Oddball, from Kelly's Heroes. (Speaking to Big Joe?)

You got a good one, before the body got butchered two or three times. Congratulations! About 15 years ago I lucked into a fairly cleanly built original issue. The difference between its body and the reissues is stunning. When I get around to rebuilding it, I'm gonna paint it black just to show off.

Just paint.

It's bow-legged women. And it's Quinn, from Jaws.

Sounds like me. The Stingray came out about two months after my folks got me a 26" bike and they said there was no way I was "going backwards." So I never owned one until the late '80s, when I bought a VERY clean red '72 or '73 5-speed at a yard sale for $35. Last time I bothered to check, it's worth about ten times that now. I still have it, but haven't ridden it for a while--I think it needs tires.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
They're from one of the many reissues of the AMT '62 Corvette. They're the closest thing I had on hand to the Astro Dish wheels in the original issue (I don't know what happened to my originals). I don't know what wheels are in the latest reissue. Usually I paint the "dish" of such wheels flat aluminum or flat steel, but I think I'm gonna leave these in Blingy Chrome, at least for a while. They seem to fit the vibe of the car. (You'll see when it's done.) -
Indeed it does, and a very cool one too. Drive on!

Those old AMT C2 Vettes are FUN, aren't they? Drive on!

I must bring home a dozen every week from Walmart. Let me know if you need any. I'll bet I could pack 50 in a small box.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
’65 Riv update: Couple guys told me they’d send me the hood I need for the Riv, but none was forthcoming, so I starting trying to cut down and adapt a hood from the ’66 Wildcat. And then, the day after I made the cuts, Superbird McMonte (My New Favorite Person) came through with a pair of resin copies. These were not only adequate, they’re magnificent, easily on par with the best resin I’ve ever seen from the likes of Modelhaus, Motor City, etc. All they required was just knocking the razor-edge off the borders; fit is absolutely perfect. GREAT BIG GIANT THANKS TO SUPERBIRD! The Riv is now in primer (Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer, smoothed with #600 wetordry). Paint to follow soon. Meanwhile, work continues on the ’66 Chevelle. If you’ve never built this kit (or tried to), this pic might not look like much, but it represents about three evenings of work. The hood has a HUGE hole in it, into which fits an insert piece with the base of the snorkel-like pro stock scoop, which I didn’t want to use. The insert doesn’t fit very will, with big gaps on all three sides. I liquid-cemented it in place, cut and filed off the snorkel, then filled the gaps with LocTite Superglue Gel (ask for it by name!). This stuff has the amazing property of taking on the color of whatever is around or under it, so the whole front end looks like one solid piece in this pic, even though it’s not. A peek at the underside shows the insert—where it is and how big and so forth. So here's where it is now--I hope to get at least primer on it this weekend. -
For D Day- what is was really like. PICs

The airplanes in your pics are B-17s. Most of them seem to be G models. -
I just learned the other day that the '66 and up Falcons were based on shortened Fairlane chassis, not the Mustang platform. I guess that makes sense. The '66-'67 Fairlane (and Comet) 2 door sedans seem to have had the same roof as the Falcon 2 door. (Dunno if this is also true of 4-door, I haven't checked.)

I heard there was some damage to part of the roof of the USAF Museum.

You do know there's already a 1/24 diecast of it, right? It's pretty nice except for something's not quite right with the roof, or the side window line, or something. I haven't gotten around to trying to fix mine yet.

That's what I was planning to use to do a '67 2DS. Got the idea from someone at the other forum who did a Supernatural Impala that way a few years ago. Now I'll wait to see what the new kit look like.

Model Car World has '66 and (I think) '65 2DS bodies, but I haven't bought one because the roof doesn't look quite right to me. But that's just me, it might look okay to someone else.

June display: Calendar Mustang is a red ’71 convertible. Model is a Testor diecast ’71 Mach I in black. So I matched make, model, and year, but not body style or color. Oh well. Calendar Camaro is a black ’95 T-top. Model is an AMT ’93 T-top snapper (plastic kit) in dark metallic green. So I matched make, model, and body style, but not exact year or color. I DO have the same wheels, though!

Not a chance, but I don't imagine there's any chance it will survive a Long Purple Swim.

Since the beam is reading the wheels in direct profile, a second one would be redundant--one is all you need.

Since "metallic burnt orange" wasn't a factory color for '63--or any other year of C2--you're already in "Day Two" territory and needn't feel constrained to retain the FI or flag emblems, or any other emblems. Smooth the whole body off if you want to! Use the BB engine! Go wild on the wheels & tires! Have FUN with it!

Toy show day! Didn't buy anything last month, so I didn't feel bad about going nuts this month. Three complete Corvette kits, two Revell '67 roadsters and some as yet unidentified C4, bagged, for $10. Worth that just for parts and decals. Revell '57 Nomad glue bomb, again, worth the $2 just for parts. Lotta recent discussion here about how impossible this kit is to build, but somebody got this one together, although not finished very well. AMT '66 Olds 4-4-2. I was attracted to its completeness and its very pretty, smooth, shiny garnet red/purplish finish. Got a big glue booger on the roof, but I can always vinyl top it. Due to the nonstock color, I might make a Stock or /MP class racer out of it, or a '70s street bomber, but well worth the $7 as a fun "rescue" project. Pair of 4G Novas, one has 1977 on the rear license plate and the other says Nova. Body on the black one is good, but it's missing hood, grille, and some other parts. The white one has a roached body but most of the other parts are here. At $5 for both, I figger I can get one good model out of the pair. Come to think of it, I have another glue bomb of these with a body with damage in different places, so I might be able to get TWO out of the three. Disconovaman, here I come! AMT (MPC) '92-ish Beretta. I remember not long back a few people here were looking for these to replace bad bodies in the Revell Pro Street Beretta, so I figgered it was worth the $2 asking price. If you're one of those guys, I'm at SnakeACP45 at aol dot com. Looks like a Monogram Chaparral 2D someone was making into a Batman Villian car. Thought it might make a good street or kit-car "what-if" for the $2 price. IMC Cougar II. Not sure what I'll do with it, but again, seemed to be worth the $2 tab. And finally, some parts and goodies. Complete built AMT Parts Pack rod frame, with 4 good tires and two good wheels. You don't see these that often anymore. I'll do something with it. Five new paint mixing bottles for $1. Two sets of nice slicks on wheels. And a set of AMT big n little redline wide ovals--can always use those.
