Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take

Hoser! Beauty, eh? -
Very clean build. You should post your stuff more often. Well done and model on!

I don't see any front marker lights on the blue body. That said, I think AMT retooled the marker lights on this body at some point. Runs in my mind that the ones I built in 1969 had 1968-type markers, while newer reissues have more correct representations of the 1969 style. I have a Countdown issue (late '70s) body somewhere but don't remember if they'd been changed by that time or not.

Glue Bomb Rescues and Survivor Restorations of 2018

I just paint it in there using Model Master Black Chrome Trim and a small brush. I keep a toothpick handy to wipe excess off the spoke tops and rims as I go. If you miss some, after it dries, a toothpick can be used to scrape the black paint off the chrome without damaging the chrome. I do a LOT of this kind of detailing on wheels. Really adds a lot to the look of a model IMHO, WELL worth the time and tedium spent. Good luck and model on! -
I have the same issue with an AMT '70 B-M Camaro I want to do in polished plastic (dark green). It took a little careful effort, but I was able to block-sand and polish the dimple out and the roof now looks smooth (in raw plastic, no less). Now to try to address that "divot" on the right side of the hood line...

Question for the Ford experts here: Would Model Master Hugger Orange be an acceptably close match for Calypso Coral? I want to do a Cougar Eliminator in that color (Mercury Competition Orange). Don't mean to hijack the thread, but hey, we ARE looking at a beautiful application of Calypso Coral, so the question is kinda on topic. Thanks!

Good to know! I'm pretty sure I have a Burago Viper GTS kit in the to-do pile that I bought at Hobby Lobby. It should get built soon as a cold-weather project. Thanks for sharing that!

I painted with a coat of black primer, several coats of the Testor lacquer, and several coats of clear. To expose the foil, I wet-sanded with #1000 or #1500 paper until I got down to the black primer on the raised areas, then polished as normal with Wright's Silver Cream which took the black primer off as it smoothed out the paint. Worked fabulously, and I'll definitely be doing it again. -
It might also be possible to print your model out in whatever scale you wanted--1/25, 1/24, 1/32, 1/43, 1/48, whatever. How cool would THAT be?

Very nice! Never seen this before, thanks for sharing it!

Sweet! I'll have to have one, "just because." Thanks!

Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take

Great post! SCTV was fabulous. I was in love with Lola ("I wanna have aaaaaaall your children!") Heatherton, but my alltime favorite SCTV line was delivered by Joe Flaherty's Guy Caballero in The Godfather parody: "I will make him an offer that...I think will be to his liking." -
Very nice! Your chassis looks great, too. Drive on!

It might be a while before 3D printers are affordable enough for the average hobbyist. However, I can see a situation where hobby shops, places like Hobby Lobby/Michael's/AC Moore, or even Office Max/Staples have them available for public use. You'd buy or download a program (or create your own) for what you wanted--perhaps even ordering a model kit EXACTLY the way you wanted it, checking off options the way you used to order a new car--and then go print it for a reasonable price. Are we printing 3D clear parts yet? Because that will be necessary to print model car and airplane kits.

You can change it. Go to your original post, hit the Edit button, and you can change the thread title. Beautiful model, by the way. Well done and model on!

Got this Dremel accessory grinding set at Walmart for $15. When you compared it to a bunch of much smaller sets they had for $12+, there is a LOT of good stuff in here. Came home and put it to use immediately grinding on a diecast body. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dremel-711-01-150-Piece-All-Purpose-Accessory-Kit/706495036

My grandfather ran a tiny country store in countryside that would look familiar to anyone who watched Justified (or sound familiar to anyone who read Rocket Boys). At some point in the '50s or early '60s he started looking for rare wartime pennies in the change he took in. He never found any of the real rare ones, but he saved out every steel 1943 penny he saw. To this day I still have rolls and rolls of the things. Last time I checked the most valuable of them was only worth 5 or 10 cents.

I've never seen that...thanks for posting it! The famous graphics came from another TD Sketchbook, I think earlier, and IIRC on a '62 Chevy. I have that one.

Ain't that the truth! Google-image any car color you cant think of and you will see MANY variations of the color. About the best you can do is get a strong mental impression of what the color should look like, and work for that. For example, I've been trying to decide if '74 Pontiac Buccaneer Red is closer to Testor #3/Model Master Guards Red, or MM Chevy Engine Red (a bright red-orange). Any opinions from anyone here who has real-world 3D experience with a real car painted that color? -

Very nice! I LOVE "take two" builds. Isn't it fun to compare your old skills with your current ones? Well done and model on!
