Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Original (I'm pretty sure) Ala Kart. I'm no expert on Ala Kart but it seems to be complete. (Found the missing right taillight/nerf bar in the box last night.) I have zero interest in Ala Kart so this one will be going up for trade. I think I've read here that the original issues were preferable to the reissues (and the remake) in some way I don't recall, so I'd think somebody out there would give it a loving home. -

Great scores, Dino! Almost too nice to be called Glue Bombs! -
It's original. Was never reissued and I think the molds were altered to make the '65. I THINK I have a Modelhaus hood. I'm restoring one too and the hood is damaged, so I ordered a MH hood years ago but am not using it because it's just a hair undersized (not uncommon with repro parts due to mold and resin shrinkage). If I can find it, it's yours. The hood "scoops" are separate chrome inserts. You'll have to come up with those. Have you thought about picking up a common Polar Lights '64 GTO as an organ donor? You could harvest the hood, scoop inserts, A-pillars, and the grille might even fit. (Oh, the AMT grille needs a little plastic insert in the center which you seem to be missing, but that wouldn't be hard to scratchbuild.) The AMT body is more accurately shaped than the Polar Lights and it would be worth sacrificing one to restore the AMT. To fix your grille, I can take a silicone putty cast of the left corner of mine, then send you that mold and you can put it on your grille and backfill it with epoxy or polyester resin to complete yours. Come to think of it, I could pull molds of the AMT hood inserts and send you those, too.

I've been using the cheap, thin plastic bags from Walmart or sometimes Hobby Lobby. They're free, and there are always so many around they seem to be breeding. I tape off the actual edges/separation lines, and then use the plastic bags to cover all the big areas.

I'm keeping the '67. It's mainly why I bought the whole box. I MIGHT be able to part with the '77, as I'm currently finishing up a Snake-Fu job on a cool molded-in-orange '74 promo, which is almost identical. But one of my son's friends, whom I'm becoming good friends with, does models and he's restoring a real '74 or '75 Vette--not sure if it's a coupe or roadster. If it's a coupe, I was planning to offer it to him if he wants it. If that doesn't happen, I'll keep you in mind. -

Thanks! I think the top might be in the box--I noticed a little black thing I thought might be the top for a (otherwise missing) 1/43 car, or something like that. I think maybe those carbs are in the box, too. -
Not on the stock one, but maybe on the van. I think I have a couple extra sets of those if you need some.

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!

Here's the Big Box O'Glue Bombs I scored yesterday. Did a quick sort-out today, found that there's 14 more-or-less complete models in there! I hope to do a detailed inventory and match up the couple dozen little pieces still loose in the box tomorrow. In the meantime, anyone know what this thing is? Never seen it before, but I suspect it's either Lindberg or Aurora. Might be fun to clean up and display as is...unless it just happens to be somebody's "holy grail" model they've been looking for.... -

Huh. As my Dad used to say, "You learn something new every day if you're not careful." You do still seem to be pretty plugged-in here, though. -
Very nice, very clean build. It could be "Grumpy's Toy 0," as the first GT was red before it got its signature white paint. Drive on!

Here's pics of another '67 Vette Van in the Snakepit I started work on a couple years ago--as I got it off eBay, and then after disassembly and stripping the black paint off the top. I decided that the body was so clean on this one that I'd restore it as a stock roadster, and use the van top on a body in not as good condition. I don't see any problem letting the halftrack go, as I already built up a "nice" copy of this kit a couple years ago. I don't think it's particularly rare; I could swear I saw them at Hobby Lobby not that long ago but I could be mistaken. Anyway, about all I would do with it is clean it up, put it back together as well as possible, and display it as-is next to my built one. The right suspension roller part is off of it, but it was in the box and it's definitely present. The right vinyl track is broken; I'm not sure if it's just broken in one place or if there's a section missing. Will make a detailed inventory of it tomorrow and let you know. You can tell me if you think it's worth postage and a nominal swap of some kind (I won't hold out for anything "special" for this one). Email me direct at SnakeACP45 at AOL dot com. Here's the Monogram halftrack I built a while back, just for grins.

I finally lucked into one of those Glue Bomb Mines that y'all make me cry with every now and then. Yesterday at my grandson's 1st birthday party, one of my son's friends who knows I'm into models and especially cars told me that he'd seen "a big box of old model car parts" at a flea market I didn't even know about "just two weeks ago." The only detail he could give me was he recognized "a '60s Corvette with some kind of weird hardtop on it." The place was less than two miles from where we were talking, so as soon as the party was over, I hot-footed it right over there. Took a little searching, but I found the "parts box" in question under a table of other random stuff. That it was the box he was talking about was confirmed by the presence of a complete-ish original AMT '67 Vette roadster with the now fairly rare "van" top attached (the "weird hardtop). There were a few other recognizable bodies in the box, as well, but it did seem to be a jumble. Checked the price: $42! The Vette-Van alone was worth nearly that by itself (I doubt you could score one on eBay, with shipping, for that), and I figured there were enough other goodies to make that a fair price at least. Just had a chance to make a quick trip through the box. Turns out it's not a box of parts, it's a box with no less than 14 models in it, most of them well over 90% complete! Won't know for sure till I have time to do a complete inventory and sort out all the random small parts floating around, but doing a very quick collection and set-together, here's what I've got. (And the mystery of why the odd price of $42 solved: Seller obviously valued them at an average of $3 apiece. Top row, left to right: Monogram International M5 halftrack Original AMT Ala Kart Revell '27 T touring rod (Jag rear suspension, so I guess that's what it is) AMT '58 Impala done as a gasser (rear wheels radiused) Monogram '58 Thunderbird with double bubble custom top Some kind of '53-ish Ford truck (Revell? Molded in white, opening doors) AMT '49 Ford done as a gasser Bottom row, left to right: Hawk 1/32 "land speed record" rubber band powered car, the one that seems to have a 1/48 MiG-15 canopy on it Original Monogram '55 Chevy built as a custom, with the fender skirts and the funky T-Bird style roof (not glued on) and seems to be missing only one headlight lens and one front axle/spindle Original AMT '65 Impala convertible, with the Wild Custom front end installed as well as the all-glass top (which looks in good shape), missing only one front bumperette and the tail lights (and they might turn up in the box) Some kind of Mystery Racer--probably Lindberg or maybe Aurora--looks like a T body narrowed to single seat width (I've never seen this model before) Original AMT '67 Vette with complete van/sedan delivery top Original issue (? It's molded in black) AMT '32 Ford Victoria done as the dragster or wild rod MPC '77 Corvette coupe, complete, only issue is it has the custom front end treatment instead of the stock front bumper/grille, but I can get around that easy enough. Needless to say I am about pants-wetting happy! I think only the '49 Ford and the '58 Chev have been painted; the rest are I think in naked plastic. Some of these I'll be doing full rebuilds on, others I might just clean and fix up as well as possible, but others will be put up for swap, as I think there are at least two or three that some of you might REALLY like to have, way more than me. Will be posting individual pics in the Glue Bomb thread as I get the pics processed for posting. Stay tuned! HAPPY DANCE!

Very nice piece! I wonder if he makes the rear bumper. I have one that's missing the rear bumper.

Oh man I remember seeing it in a theater in first run. And I remember how I first heard of the movie: Ed Sullivan showed some of the chase scene footage. I don't remember what the premise was for that. McQueen in the audience, perhaps? I don't remember WHY Bullitt was plugged on The Ed Sullivan Show, but I distinctly remembered that it WAS.

Any interest in NeoClassics?

These are interesting to look (and sometimes laugh) at, but not enough to interest me in building a model of one. -

WOW, fabulous find! I would polish and restore that one, wouldn't even paint it if it looks as good in 3D as it does in the pics. Congratulations! -

Well, with you being a moderator here, I guess we can assume that he hasn't been banned or told to go sit in the corner for a while, or something? So he's either taking a voluntary "walkabout" from here (have seen others do it on other forums, many times), or he's away on vacation or the like. I don't want to contemplate other possibilities at this point. -
Agree completely. In fact, they're among the very best C2 kits in 1/24-1/25 by anyone, ever (in body shape/accuracy).

You are making me cry right now.

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Today at a local flea market/"collectibles" shop I bought a Big Box O Glue Bombs that has one of these in it. Full custom front end installed, as is the bubbletop. I don't think the stock front end pieces are still there. I have an unbuilt '65 HT kit with a bad body, so I can come up with whatever custom stuff is needed to finish it. The bubble top seems to be in good shape, and it's never been painted. I might try to rebuild it, or I might put it up here for swap. The BBOGBs also had an AMT '67 Vette with the custom van top, complete and never painted. I consider these two alone worth what I paid for the whole box. Not sure what else is in there, but I remember many--most?-pieces of an original Ala Kart, a good deal of an original issue Monogram '55 Bel Air convertible, a '58 T-Bird with custom double bubble top, most of a '32 Vicky drag car, maybe a '49 Ford of some kind, and one of the Hawk 1/32 Bonneville-ish cars. As soon as I can sneak the box into the house (past The Lovely Mrs. Snake, who just doesn't understand any of this AT ALL!), I'll try to inventory what I've bought, post pics, and maybe offer some of it up for swap. I'm as happy as a kid on Christmas morning! -
I saw that too! Wasn't sure of the exact year, but I thought, "Man, they come up with the coolest stuff to just sit around!"
