Very VERY nice! I've always wanted to buy and build this kit but have never gotten around to it. Yours is inspiring! Model on!

I'll be posting Before and After pics down in Diecast when it rises to the top of my Snake-Fu To Do list. But I have several projects I want to get done before I even start this one (M2 '71 Hemi Cuda), so it could be weeks at least.

I wouldn't say the Wellys rival Franklin Mint or Danbury, especially their older ones, but they do have at least some, like the '70 Challenger I mentioned, that are VERY nice. You're right about their range, and they do offer many things not available in plastic, and nearly all their stuff represents good to excellent value for the modest price paid.

I'm with you. To me, if it's a subject that would be in Workbench or Under Glass in plastic, and you're working some actual model-fu skills on it, not just buying it and putting it on the shelf, it should be allowed up there. I know there are resin-bodied cars and full resin kits up there that don't get kicked down here, so I don't understand the double standard. I've been thinking for some time of posting a very polite inquiry about this up in General Discussion. Perhaps I will in the near future.

Bought an M2 1/24 '71 HemiCuda diecast at Walmart. It's yellow with Torq-Thrush-ish wheels and Hooker Headers graphics in red and black, but those should come right off with nail polish remover. Saw a New Ray diecast 1/25 '62 Impala SS in black (with chrome reverse wheels, too!) at Hobby Lobby, retail $19.99. It looks good but not great/perfect. But for no more than I care about '62 Chevies, it'll fill that slot on my shelf just fine. Didn't get it because I spent my coupon on the Airfix 1/72 P-51D, which they finally got in, but if it's still there next trip, I'll snag it.

I've finished two projects this year stalled since at least the early '90s--'69 Charger 500 and '77 Monza. Will be posting pics under glass soon.

Revell Hemi - Hydro

Absolutely fantastic work! You are making me want to dig mine out and go to work on it. Is the "flying" stand in the kit, or is that left over from an airplane model? -
Fantastic save, fantastic work! Well done and model on!

Sanding blocks can be made out of flat blocks or sticks of wood of various shapes and sizes. Hard rubber pencil erasers also make good ones. It sounds like something like a good 10" flat fine-cut single-cut mill file might work well for you, too. I keep one on hand at all times and use it VERY frequently.

Agree. Cheapest way would be to find a clean prebuilt/glue bomb--I paid IIRC $15 for one just a couple years ago. Just make sure all the body trim pieces are there and usable. Pay particular attention to the headlights--they're separate clear plastic--as in my experience this is one of the most commonly boogered up areas on glue bombs. But if you have a set of replacement lenses (and they don't need to be from this kit, they just need to be the right size), even that problem can be dealt with.

Last night I was fooling around with the Welly '70 Challenger TA I bought last September (where does the time go?), and after examining it closely, I like it even MORE than I did when I bought it. Body shape/proportions seem right on, size is almost identical to the Lindberg/Palmer 1/25 '74, and even the paint on this one is nice. It won't take much Snake-Fu at all to get it sitting proudly on the shelf with some of my better 1/25 plastic Camaros and Mustangs or Mopars, not just on the "diecast shelf." The biggest nit I can find to pick with it is, all 4 tires are the same size, whereas the rears should be bigger (Gs vs Es on the front). But I can live with that until I figure out how to get some bigger ones on it. The biggest Snake-Fu job will be detail painting the all-chrome Rally wheels, which actually have all the holes molded open. It is one SWEET cheap diecast!

The new (September 2018) issue of Musclecar Review has a feature story on the very '70 Challenger TA that Monogram measured and used for reference, and even has a little sidebar story about that. Excellent reference pics, too. This is of particular interest to me because both a Welly diecast and a glue bomb "rescue" Monogram '70 TA are very, very near the top of my To Do list.

I was of the understanding that Lennon's "bigger than Jesus" remark wasn't a boast, it was just a statement of fact that he (Lennon) wasn't particularly proud or happy about, and it maybe kind of mystified him. But I also remember the controversy of the time, and the comment sure didn't come across that way. I remember that there were publicized burnings and bonfires of Beatles records and other merchandise. I didn't burn anything, and I don't recall the comment affecting my opinion of the Beatles or their music in any way, then or now. I'm a fairly big Beatles fan, but not particularly what you'd call a HUGE Beatles fan. (The only recordings I actually own are Beatles '65--in mono, no less--and Sergeant Pepper.)

Pretty cool! I have an unopened bottle (jar?) of that paint I've been saving for some project--I'll know it when I see it. Thanks for the preview of what it will look like!

1/25 AMT '65 Chevy El Camino "Gear Hustler"
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Just checked. It's definitely NOT in mine. -
Okay, I went down in the Snakepit and looked. It's a '71, "DUSTER 6 PACK" decals. It's YOUR job to remember this, as I'm sure the next time this topic comes up, I'll have forgotten again. Or maybe I'll be able to remember that I do NOT have the Arlen Vanke decals, which would be '72.

Thanks! I don't still have the box for some mysterious reason, but have everything else. I should go down and check the instructions/decals and see. But it's molded in a bright lemony yellow, if that's any clue.
-
I see it, exactly as you describe! No way to fix that on a pre-painted without vinyling the top, but I'm pretty sure I could carve/file/sand the right shape out of naked styrene (i.e., the kit body).

Did you cry at the first 10-15 minutes of last night's episode? I did. I hope a "stunt double" was used, as is often the case. In other news, it was a welcome surprise to see another old Breaking Bad friend reappear, even though of course we all know that THAT will not end well.....

I've often heard Buicks (and to be honest, a few other makes as well) referred to as "Land Yachts," but this is the first time I've actually SEEN one!

Painting over Molotow Chrome?
Snake45 replied to Ben's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not me, but then I haven't really been going for that "Hot Wheels" look on anything lately. -
I have an unbuilt MPC '71 (or maybe '72--I never can remember which it is, but it's the one with all the goofy, Zinger-like parts). If I get serious about correcting the AMT body, I suppose I could take silicone molds of the affected roof areas off the MPC body, cast them, and mold the pieces into the AMT.
