The Official EBay Discussion Thread
Snake45 replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It arrived today. It's a "complete" kit, never started, no paint, intact decals and instructions. All major parts are here. Looks like it's missing a couple landing gear doors but nothing I can't scratchbuild if I ever actually build it, which, let's be honest, I probably never will. It's just a cool old thing from my childhood to have around and IMHO well worth what I paid for it. I'm happy. -
Street Outlaws, Fastest in America
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, and he didn't want to do it and at first refused to do it. He only called Kye out after Kye assured him that it was according to the rules, it was his perfect right, and the 3 and 4 slots were locked up with a callout and he (Axman) couldn't be called out anyway. Did Tricia call out Cantu and Chief accepted it for him in absentia, since he'd evidently fled the premises? That's the way I interpreted it. -
Monogram Sherman #2

You are correct! But I didn't use it because as I said I couldn't find pics of one with that early suspension. -
Monogram Sherman #2

Thanks! Found 'em. The cast-hull one I built to match an illustration in the Squadron In Action book. The welded-hull is factory fresh. Both are straight OOB near as I can recall. -
Probably the same stuff, but I've never seen it in the pens, just in squeeze bottles that are cheaper than that.

Street Outlaws, Fastest in America
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Last night, until the last few minutes, I thought I was watching a show called Let's Get Ryan to the Top. At this point it seems pretty clear that either Axman, Kye, or Chief will end up as #1. Slight chance Ryan Martin could pull it off somehow. Gotta admit, he's made the most progress of anyone, moving from #11 to #4. No else else is even close in the number of slots jumped. Overall, I was pretty pleased with the outcomes of last night's races. Would love to see Tricia break into the Top 10 but not sure it can happen. -
"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Got my Vette interior done. Got the grille done. Got the Rally Wheels done. Got the chrome on the A-pillars and drip rails. And then disaster struck: Went to detail the taillight lenses, and could only find 3 of them. I keep all active projects in gallon freezer ziplock bags--it wasn't in there. I don't remember one being missing when I disassembled it, hmmmmm. It might be hiding under something else on the workbench, it might have ended up in the baggie of another project, I dunno. Gonna drive on with assembly and GITTER DONE without the taillights and sort that out later--if it doesn't turn up, I'll have to sili-clone one but that won't happen by tomorrow. Ah shucks oh well. -
They're all basically white glue like Elmer's. Try Tacky Glue, available at Walmart--very strong and a fraction of the cost of the "hobby" products.

Shiny! GITTER DONE! -
I always wait until Chicago PD's season is over and then watch them all over the summer. At the moment I'm up to episode 10 or 11 of this year. It's a little bit predictable. If you end up on the ground with holes in you and some member of the unit beating on your chest and yelling, "STAY WITH ME!" yeah, that's not gonna work. You're gonna die. New faces are the Red Shirts of Chicago PD. Its nominally a "police procedural," but it seems like most of their cases these days get solved by cell phone traces and traffic cameras. Pretty convenient to keep the story moving, I guess. I don't remember if this was the case in previous years.

Monogram Sherman #2
Snake45 replied to oldscool's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
First off, your build looks great! You did well not using the rocket launchers. Both these Monogram Shermans feature the very early suspension, a legacy from their common heritage/tooling with their M3 Grant/Lee kits. It's pretty rare to find these early suspensions in actual combat and I've NEVER seen them on a tank with either the rocket launchers or the "hedgehog" cutters. The first issues of these kits had an insert by Shep Paine showing how to modify the early suspension to the later, more common type, but it's a LOT of work. I didn't want to go through all that so I just built both of mine straight out of the box and made them more or less factory fresh. If you don't mind me posting pics in your thread, I'll see if I can find them on the computer (very old files) and post them. Again, great job! These '70s Mono tanks aren't the most detailed, but they're easy and fun builds, aren't they? -
Looks fantastic! I'd say you nailed that stance you were going for. Well done and model on!

I wouldn't sweat the un-shiny paint. Your paint is very even, no orange peel, no runs or drips, no thin spots. "Satin" paint is in style right now, even for metallics. Just say this is exactly the look you were going for and stick to that story! Model on!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Tom, that primer looks pretty clean. If you can get it otherwise buttoned up--glass, interior, trim, and so forth--and fit to show in one piece by the end of the month, we'll give you credit for DONE. You can always go back and lay pretty paint on it later. TIP: White glue and masking tape can be your best friends at a time like this. -
I enjoyed both of those when they were on, but IIRC neither lasted that long. Interestingly, both featured SNL members in their casts.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

I just counted 80 by the end of Round 10, and we have 4 more so far this time. Pretty sure we'll hit 100 by the end of this year! -
Dark side PT Cruiser
Snake45 replied to Redisetta's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The REALLY weird thing is the USMC decals on it. -
I bought one at Hobby Lobby two weeks ago. Haven't opened it up to see what kind of plastic is in it though.

Very clean build, you're doing great! Well done and model on!

8 second electric Ford Mustang
Snake45 replied to Vietnam Vet67's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We'll know these have "arrived" when Ryan Martin or Kye Kelly or Big Chief or JJ Da Boss shows up with one. -
VERY clean build, I can't find a single thing to gig. Well done and model on!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That is EXACTLY why we're here! Drive on! Meanwhile, got the body foiling done on the '70 Vette (rocker trim, front and rear Corvette flag emblems), painted the flag emblems with red and white, painted the side marker lights TS Amber and SL red, painted the grill parking lights Pearl White, painted the Rally Wheel slots black. Still to do: paint Rally Wheels flat silver, windshield/roof trim chrome, paint grille black, paint interior details black, foil taillights and paint backup lights white. Looking pretty good for Wednesday completion. -
Finally someone mentioned Firefly, best show of all time! I run through my box set, and the Serenity movie, and of course all the extras, about every four years. Come to think of it, I'm about due! Can't stop the signal!

Would have fit right into the Renwal Revival line!
