Maintenance Saturday, DONE!
peteski replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No problem here - I just made a request and if it is not feasible, the life goes one. Like others mentioned, thanks for maintaining this important piece of my social life nowadays. -
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Discussions
peteski replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Absolutely, but just seeing the title in the list of threads (not even opening it) evokes a negative response in me (and others). Yes Greg, just seeing that dreaded name is enough for me! I COME HERE TO ESCAPE MY DAILY PROBLEMS. I guess you just don't get it and, want to discuss this ad-nauesum. Thanks for your helpful hints, but no thanks. IF I WANT TO KNOW HOW OTHERS COPE WITH THE PROBLEM, I WILL NOT TRY TO GET THIS INFO FROM A MODELING FORUM. KAPISH? -

I tried both "facepalm" and "face palm" - no results. I didn't try faceplam. But even the ones you found are really crappy face palms! I don't need male/female indication, and something larger that those. You need a magnifier to even see that those are. I like them a bit larger, just like the original set on this site (like the one I used above). Something like this one would be nice (or even larger). It is not the end of the world though - I'll live facepalmless. -
This is an excellent method if there is a paper towel dispenser in the bathroom (not just air dryers). The is basically what I do whenever feasible.

Yes, I'm total awe! That molding technique could be utilized for making things like working suspensions and ball joints for steerable wheels on model cars, but somehow I don't see that ever happening in the plastic model model car sector of the hobby.
-
I most certainly do not.

LOL, sure if they were to designed to normally operate under sparse traffic condition. Those vehicles should really be tested in a heavy traffic environment to make them usable and reliable in real life situations. As for construction work, I heard few days ago, that in Boston (MA) the mayor stopped all the construction (to prevent spread of the virus).

Playing a proctologist, eh?

I have never built a Gundam kit but some of the members of my club have and brought them to our show-n-tell meetings. What impressed the heck out of me is the kit's engineering. I don't remember the manufacturer - the amazing thing was that the parts were molded in multiple colors on the parts tree! That's an amazing feat of engineering. The molds must be really complex! The molding quality was also very fine, and most of the joints on the models were articulated.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Discussions

I come here to escape the barrage of COVID-19 news coming at me from every direction, so I'm already I'm painfully aware of this serious situation you mentioned. I'm here to talk about scale models. I WANT TO PUT MY HEAD IN THE SAND OF THIS FORUM. SERENITY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Favorite method for decanting spray cans?
peteski replied to 2zwudz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
LOL! I actually like (brown) mustard, onions, sauerkraut, and . . . ketchup. Chili dogs (no cheese) with onions also work for me. -
Yes, there are tens of thousands of different fonts available out there, and you right, you are crossing over from technical into the artistic realm. As far as the Corel font tool goes, it is a Font Navigator. It is just a tool which allows you to catalog and categorize the fonts residing anywhere on your PC. Since you could have thousands of fonts on your PC (not all installed), it also allows you to install and uninstall them, along with displaying them and allowing you to see how your sample text would look like in some font. It is convenient, but I'm not sure if I would consider it as advanced. As for things around your hose, I suspect that Helvetica (or one of its clones) is probably still one of the most widely used typefaces (fonts).

Sorry Chris. We have a total communication breakdown here. I'm not saying that the Gundam thread is for discussing anything and everything. I'm saying that the Off-Topic Lounge section of this forum is for any topic (including a Gundam topic). This thread is well within the scope of this forum section. Forget it that I mentioned anything. Sorry! Carry on.

Chris, I wrote " This section of the forum is for discussing anything". Anything means "anything and everything". I AM AGREEING WITH YOU!! I think if we all drop this part of the conversation, we can go back to happily discussing Gundam.

1971 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible., lost on route 66 ;)
peteski replied to Jeffcad's topic in Model Cars
Another beautiful Caddy from Jean-Philippe ! -
Beautiful model (although I'm one of the purists). I have the kit of the stock version, and planning on building it someday. Nice to see how well it looks, and that it builds well. After examining the finely molded kit parts I suspected that it would go together nicely. Looks like Tamiya quality.

Excellent (although if there are performance problems, they don't seem to bother me). But is there a chance to eliminate those hundreds of useless emojis that started showing up on the previously-brief list of emojis. I think the last major update introduced that useless stuff nobody seems to use,. Plus they show up much smaller in the post than in the emoji list. Useless! If any use them at all, most people here (including me) use about half a dozen of emojis, and the good ones are all all ye way on the bottom of the list. This is one of the original emojis from the old software: And one of the new ones: ? (I can barely even see that one). What we really need is a hand-palm emoji, and I can't find one, even in that huge list. -
This is all fun stuff! This one identifies fonts from a picture, but what you have is way too coarse for identification. If I have higher resolution picture of the lettering I need, I often clean it up and convert it to line-art. I still have mixed results. https://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ Then others: https://www.fontsquirrel.com/matcherator http://www.identifont.com/ Just do a Google search for "font identification" for many more sites.

Favorite method for decanting spray cans?
peteski replied to 2zwudz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
. . . no control of the paint viscosity, nozzle opening size, or air pressure. Once I got an airbrush, I never looked back. I still use spray cans for some jobs around the house or car. But whatever works for you Nick. There will always be 2 kinds of modelers in this world: ones who use airbrushes and ones who don''t. Just like there are people who go through life eating hamburgers without ever trying a nice steak. Just giving you hard time Nick - like I said "whatever works for you". -
Major screw up with my paint and I need help
peteski replied to drodg's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you had a clear coat on that model, did those 2 small drops of paint "melt" thought the clear? If not, why not just sand and polish the drops off the clear coat. What I would have done was to wipe the paint off as soon as as it fell on the hood. Then it would have been easy to polish the leftover paint smears. But hindsight . . . -
Exactly! See what I mean.

This section of the forum is for discussing anything, There is no off-topic here. Gundam would also be prefect suitable for the "All the Rest" section but that's not the point. My beef was about what seem to have become personal attacks between members. I'm no moderator and I don't want this thread locked either. Gundam is a worthy discussion that IMO should continue. I just thought that it was going towards the big thread lock.

But those "new" cakes produce more profit for the shareholders. Or so the bean-counters think. It is always about the bottom line.
