i wasn't trying to legitimize it, the post is for racing movies, not legal racing movies. and if 2 people are competing to be first to get somewhere that is still a race whether its legal or not. if we exclude illegal racing activities many of these movies wouldn't qualify, for example the hire car race in days of thunder or enzo and ferruchio street racing in the lamborghini movie. the simple fact is they are just movies made as entertainment and they do things many of us wouldn't do. i watched oceans eleven and i haven't robbed a casino

its kinda ironic that the people that complain the loudest about a lack of reading or educational comprehension in kids today are the ones that seem to be absent now for a lack of comprehending the rules so at least we still get a laugh

if you are just wanting to stick it to a wooden board i would use carpet tape rather than spray glue. much less mess and its not wet so little chance of wrinkling.

What was your first model car?
stitchdup replied to Kit Karson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The year was around 1988 or 89 and i was in the last year of primary school. There was a tv movie called venus peter being made locally and i was almost going to be the kid that had some lines in the movie because i had a close relationship with my grandfather and that was one of the themes of the film. I got to miss school for a month and got my first taste of chilli from the food van, but as my grandfather passed away shortly before filming started the role went to another kid and i was just one of the background folk. It was a fun experience all the same, i got to climb inside an anamatronic whale!! which was fascinating and i used almost all the money i earned to buy a peterbuilt 359? kit out of the local toy shop. It cost me about £30 i think and would have been italeri or revell kit. I still have some parts of it. I dont have any memory of building it myself so i might have got my dad to build it for me. It was brush painted matt black and i think i picked the truck as i had recently seen the convoy movie. I think the plastic on the truck chassis may have been brown or red. I've still only seen small parts of the movie and have never seen the whole thing and being nit was a tv movie its not available on dvd or to stream -
Saving 61 year old Decals from Old Autoworld
stitchdup replied to stavanzer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
you can find the tag heuer decals in a lot of euro race cars. they were the official timing equipment for a number of years and also sponsored a couple of race cars. maybe spot model would be a good place to look for aftermarket decals. I think there may also be decals in some porsche race kits -
primer works best when it has something to bits into. i usually use some fine grey scotch pads then follow with cheap abrasive household cleaners and a toothbrush. I had a lot of problems doing foil before i started doing this as the paint was just laid over the plastic but had nothing to hold onto due to smoothness of the plastics. I use duplicolour acrylic primers. they will work with tamiya paints.

I would have written AA decals but thats a completely different thing in the usa, and really confused me when i was younger wondering why the aa seemed like a naughty thing in us tv shows, lol. What i am looking for is the uk automobile assosiation road service decals in the pre ww2 style when they looked more ornate. I need them in 1/24 size for a phantom model a. something like the rear van or even just the crest would be ideal if anybody knows a source

I have no knowlage on posting photos.
stitchdup replied to Craig Irwin's topic in How To Use This Board
the site offers free posting for us since the photobucket mess a few years back. if you look in the box below as you are posting you will see a drag files or choose files option. I tend to use the drag and drop method before writing my post then add the pics in using the insert option below the pic (I've circled where it is in red as it disappeared when i tried screenshot it). use the other media option for video. -
yes, but i used a set of aoshima tyres on the revell r8 rims but its the same process. I also had to trim the centre out of the wheel back as i wanted proper brakes behind the rim and not in between the faces. you can also get a friction fit if you carefully trim the centre ridge of the tyres to be evr so slighly smaller than the rim but doing this can be a pain to keep the tyre profile even as any discrepancy will make the tyre not round though gently warming the tyre can soften them to ease getting them on the rims. if your worried about the tyre coming loose you can alwats add a dab of glue to hold them

loop can mean jump in some dialects, for example local to me a ferry looper is someone that moved to the islands by boat and is not an insult even though they seem to think it is

cut or file the flange off. you can get most of it removed using your sprue cutter then its just filing and sanding to get a nice surface. a bit of tape on the edges should save the chrome if you want to save it, i use the thick paper parcel tape for this as its tougher than masking tape and if you dont rub it down too much its also easy to remove

Mica powder as flocking. Lessons learned.
stitchdup replied to Bills72sj's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
you might get a better result using double sided tape bacause the glue isn't wet. when you add the mica powders to the glues the reason they clump is due to the fine grains of the powder. its like adding baking soda (or any other powdered substance) to superglue to use as filler. also you wont be able to use some paints as some mica powders are made to melt into paints to make your own colours while others are more like adding flake to a 1/1 paintjob. you could also try those glue sticks we used in school, the brand on this side of the pond was called pritstik and again its a fairly dry glue but I've never tried it on plastic or painted surfaces and due to the nature of the gluestik it might not work for tight corners unless you reshape the end of the stick but they can be mashed back together after. they usually cost around 2.50 for 5 in the toy section or with the pens and paper. the tubes are a bit bigger than lip balm tubes -
you've got a dodgy app if its doing that. was it a free app on your phone? theres a load of free apps that only exist to do this. you're not the first either, someone else got caught out earlier in the year. it is not a problem with the qr code or the magazines end, but something in one of your apps you use to scan the qr code. you'll also need to change your passwords and pass codes after deleting the dodgy app cos they will have stolen them. you can search your email on haveibeenpwned.com to see how much info has been stolen and how often, fyi; i show up in 64 hacks and thats a low number really
