New project on the table, sure to be a “Thriller”
BDSchindler replied to BDSchindler's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, slow progress on this but finally a first shot of primer and only a few minor spots to be reworked… unfortunately, however…the hood didn’t fair as nicely. Popped it into Dr Drybooth and apparently had it just a tad too hot… to be fair, the hood was quite thin in the front so it would sit correctly on the body. Another hood is on order and I wasn’t totally happy with it anyway so now I have the opportunity to do it more like what I wanted in the first place. Here it is before primer… -

1957 Ford Del Rio "Shooting Brake" Ranch Wagon
BDSchindler replied to LennyB's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have to agree...this is one of my favorites, as well. That said, after seeing the talented work that Len is doing, I could never do this car that amount of justice. I'll probably still build the Del Rio at some point but I'll have to use some imagination in another direction. -

Wizard's 'O's ?
BDSchindler replied to Dave Ferguson's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I believe that Scale Motorsports has a different manufacture than what Norm had. I'll see Norm next week at our next model club meeting (MAMA's) so I'll make sure to ask him. -

maybe i can resize the kit photo for comparison well, not perfect but it helps. I did crop and flip the PV photo. -
1957 Ford Del Rio "Shooting Brake" Ranch Wagon
BDSchindler replied to LennyB's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have no clue on how to replicate the trim but in looking at the rear wheel well on the PV car vs. kit car...the PV wheel well looks cut higher into the quarter panel than the kit car. Maybe it's just my eyes but... -
New project on the table, sure to be a “Thriller”
BDSchindler replied to BDSchindler's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, had some time to get back to work on this. Mounted the engine on the chassis so I could dial in the opening in the hood a bit better… Since I was playing in the engine bay, I decided to remove the molded in washer bottle, battery and so on then smooth everything out with nothing but access filler neck to the washer bottle. Still planning out where heater hoses, a/c hoses, battery cables and so forth but you get the picture… Need to fill the holes for the hinges and debating if I want to use Doug Whyte’s “floating hinges” in conjunction with magnets or just fill those areas and hide magnets to hold the hood in place. slow going for now, more as I go. -
Tuck and roll interiors and bucket seats

I like the idea of using the foam but the stitching aspect seems out of scale. Maybe better if you used a finer tooth saw blade for that. -
MCW paints, Enamel vs Lacquer
BDSchindler replied to eran_k's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
While I like MCW paints for airbrush (even though I prefer Splash Paints), I tried their "Brush" enamel paints when looking for a replacement of Testor's Model Master brush paints. I do not recommend their brush enamel paints as they are too thin for decent brush painting (streaks) and too thick for Airbrush. I purchased 3 blacks (Gloss, Semi-gloss and Flat) as well as a couple of silver shades. When attempting to brush, they fill in the deep spots on parts like a thinned out wash or accent paint but the high points of various parts seemed nearly transparent. It didn't matter if I put a second coat on the part or not as the paint turned out "uneven" and just did not flow well at all. I also wash all parts and prime first (I prime everything with Mr. Hobby surface primer that gets painted even down to smaller parts) before painting. Just my opinion. -
Don...I am very interested in the light kit/components you are using. I'm assuming you got these from Evan's Designs. I have no clue on what to order, however. Can you list the components colors, sizes and style of the LED's you are using (Nano, Pico or whatever) that you are using for this build including the ones for the dash lights? Thanks

I am loving this! But then, I do love a good custom and this is really shaping up to be one of the best ones I've seen in a while!

Tuck and roll interiors and bucket seats
BDSchindler replied to slusher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not sure of exactly what you are looking for but I know Norm at Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland did have a number of interior pieces available in tuck and roll. You might want to check there. -
The odd thing is, Dave...since the last server migration, I changed NOTHING in my settings. It's the same thing as the previous server changes that were made...I made no changes whatsoever. Then suddenly, it was all fixed and I did nothing on my end. Not doubting what you said but as I said before, after 45 years of being in I.T. (mostly IBM mainframe and client server applications)...NOTHING surprises me anymore! I'm open to any/all suggestions, however.

I actually found it on Amazon for under $20...spins at 100rpm, like I said...slow turning FWD/REV https://www.amazon.com/General-Tools-500-Precision-Screwdriver/dp/B002XZLTQO?th=1 or home depot for the same price... https://www.homedepot.com/p/General-Tools-Power-Precision-Screwdriver-500/202025658

Apparently they no longer carry it...not listed anywhere in their catalog or online.

That thing reminds me of the WWII Liberator Handgun (google it) I used 2 different Dremels as well as a handful of pin vises outfitted with more common drill bits that I use. For drilling harder plastics, or repetitive drilling like drilling out rotors, I have a battery powered hand drill that I got from Micromark. It uses 2 AAA battery's and I outfitted it with twist type chuck that will allow for even the tiniest of drill bits. It spins slowly either forward or reverse so it will not get of control on you.

@Dave Ambrose...just calling your attention to it since I think you worked it last time around

Interesting...I cannot even EDIT my post unless I quote it

OK, so a little more on this... If JavaScript is DIS-abled, then I CAN access Messages, Notifications and able to login...BUT, NO pictures show up in any postings. If JavaScript is EN-abled, then I CANNOT access Messages, Notifications and UNable to login...BUT, ALL pictures WILL show up in any postings. This has only been happening since the last round of server migrations. I'm not crazy...I spent 45 years in I.T. but very little of it was with online web applications (Mostly Mainframe Client/Server BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH). That said, I have seen so many weird things happen when upgrades took place (regardless of the platform), it would boggle even the most intelligent of Software Engineers!!! A similar situation occurred the last time this site went through a server upgrade until one day it was miraculously fixed. Even back then, some people had the issue with Firefox while others in firefox didn't. So somebody may want to go back through the maintenance history and find out what was done then. I'm sure it's similar.

I am on Firefox and noticed since the server migration the login ("Existing User? Sign In" prompt) at the top right of the page doesn't work. If I go to Microsoft Edge or Chrome it works fine. Just not with Firefox. Is anybody else using Firefox experiencing this?
