Ollie's strike again
atomicholiday replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can’t make out the price stickers. Are they all marked $19.99? -
Doing a little more work on the engine today. This part doesn’t fit properly either and needs trimmed. Here it is after reshaping, mocked up with white glue for now. I won’t glue anything else on permanently until I figure out how I want to handle the hood clearance issue.

Thanks Robert. Much appreciated!

Just finished this one. My first completed build since 2022! This is the Revell Porsche Boxster Snap Tite kit from 2015. It was a gift from my wife and daughter several years ago. I built this as a test bed to try out a few different products and techniques. As such, there are a few “firsts” for me on this project. For starters, the paint. This was shot with Tamiya TS-26 Pure White, Testors Extreme lacquer blazing black, and cleared with Rustolium clear lacquer. I’d never used the Tamiya rattle cans before, and wow! Great stuff! The undercarriage was lightly weathered (another first for me) with Tamiya panel line accent, and Mr. Weathering Color. The kit was built straight out of the box, with the only addition being the stripe decals, taken from the AMT Mercury Comet kit. I hope you enjoy! As always, questions, comments, and constructive criticism are welcome. Thanks for looking.?

Sounds to me like you have the right attitude towards model building. Do it because you enjoy it, and build for yourself, not others. As far as money, hey, I shoot paint outside! You know, you can learn a lot from the folks on this site, but you still have to do what works for you. Ask ten people how to paint and you'll get ten different answers. Keep on keeping on! And post em when you got em.

I’m curious to see how those work out for you. Some pretty cool colors there. I especially like the turquoise.

Yup, I probably wouldn’t have bought it if I’d noticed it was the short body. I can’t say I regret it though. The rims and tires are cool. And I only gave $5 on clearance at Walmart, so it’s totally worth that.

Actually looks pretty close!?

That could work. I’ll have to look into that. You got me started on something too. If you ever feel like going down that rabbit hole, there are tons of pics of old custom beetles on the web.?

One major issue with this kit is the interference between the engine and hood. Instructions even say the hood must be mounted halfway open. No way I’m doing that. It’s time I started doing some engine work so I can mock everything up and find out what the problem really is. But I’m seeing problems with the engine already. Here are some issues I addressed today. The cylinder heads don’t fit right. If you build it straight out of the box, you’ll find that the heads angle up, instead of running parallel to each other. To fix it, I filed some material away to get both sides to drop down more. I forgot to get a before pic. Sorry about that. The yellow area was filed. And here’s the fit after filing. Next problem, the oil pan doesn’t sit flat. After filing the engine block it fits much better. More to come…

Now that the weather has turned I’ll be spending more time at the bench and less time outside painting. I glued the front wheels on yesterday and I’m playing around with ride height this morning. I dunno. Maybe I should have stayed on this bug before. I’m kinda falling out of love with the project now. Just looks goofy to me. It’s definitely outside of my normal subject matter (as if I had a “normal” subject matter ?). I plan to push through and get it done though. I’ve carried it this far.

This one followed me home today. It’s been started but I think it’s all there. Looks like a bit of a glue bomb. But the rims are all there (I love those old slots) and the box looks really good for its age. I have a real soft spot for the old white box monogram stuff.

My first WIP here; '70 Dodge Challenger T/A, Parts
atomicholiday replied to Roadrunner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I went through this early this summer. Heck, my Camaro got stripped 3 times. Sucks while you're going through it but it'll be worth it in the end. -
Good choice. I like those.?
