Ollie's strike again
atomicholiday replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Those look great! I think I built this same kit about 3-4 times as a kid. Two of the off-white ones and one of the orange cars. But I’ve never done the box art. Might have to if I come across one though. Definitely has that 70’s vibe I’m currently into. -
I’m a big fan of this stuff. I also really like Vallejo Metal Color acrylic for detail painting. Here’s my problem. Applying the panel line accent over the Vallejo works fine. But frequently, I need to go back over it with a thinner to tone down the effect. I was told to use enamel thinner for this. The enamel thinner can easily remove the Vallejo too though, and that’s a problem. Is there a better way to clean up excess Tamiya panel line accent, without removing the Vallejo acrylic? Or should I coat the acrylic with something before applying the Tamiya?

Is that Camaro a recent addition to ollie's? I know this is by no means one of the the better camaro kits, but it brings back a flood of memories for me. -
Engine is basically done. I opted not to wire this one. Maybe next time. I do still need to finish the air cleaner, but its paint is curing now. I’m hoping to chrome the lid. We’ll see how that goes. I gave it a bit of weathering with Tamiya panel line accent. My plan is to lightly weather the undercarriage, so the engine may or may not get a little more at that time so it looks uniform with the rest. Also drilled and pinned the exhaust where the pipes will connect. That seems to be a trouble spot for me, so we’ll see if it makes the connection easier.

Excellent job. That paint is gorgeous!?

Monogram 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo "slant nose"

The color works. Looks really good on this car. Great build overall Brian. -
I love Civics, and this one looks great! Really nice work here Gary. The colors work well together.

Cool build. And excellent work you've done with it. I agree with you about the Revell tuner kits. I think they're a little underrated. I have two in the stash (Focus and Civic coupe) and both are very nicely molded, with lots of options.

One more vote for dark green.?

Are they still selling them at hobby lobby? I’d be tempted to pick one up next time I’m in there.

The model car mob

I completely agree with you. Read through this topic and tell me you don’t fit into multiple labels. Not a chance for most of us. I’m betting most of us are a little bit of each one. Some categories more than others, sure. Yup. But this demonstrates one of the problems with the internet. It’s so easy to read more meaning into what someone typed than what was intended, and then take offense to it. It’s kind of in our nature. If you could have the same conversation face to face, you’d pick up on vocal inflection and facial expressions, and the meaning would come through much clearer, whether positive or negative. Unfortunately that’s not possible. My bench just isn’t big enough for all of us to work on at the same time. Maybe it’s time for a bigger bench?? -
I picked up this ‘70 MPC Jeepster glue bomb yesterday, so this morning I did a little disassembly. These parts are headed for the purple pond now. It’ll probably be a while before I actually do anything else with this kit, but I want to see what I have to work with. Notice the small army contingent in the background. They were in the box with the Jeepster. Must have been guarding it and keeping it safe for me!?

Picked up this glue bomb today. There are a bunch of extra parts in the box and a set of untouched decals and instructions. Not positive, but it looks like it might be complete.

I get what you’re saying. A little off topic, but I’m that way about movies. Once everybody and their brother is saying you HAVE to go see it, I lose interest completely. Maybe “individualist’? -
Great looking build. I agree with you. The '61 is probably my favorite year for the Impala.

I picked up one of those this summer too. Haven’t dug into it yet though.

Nobody to blame but myself for this one. It’s high 40’s today, but I needed to shoot some paint on some small pieces. I stepped outside, shut the door to keep the heat in and sprayed the parts. When I tried the door, it was locked! Keep in mind, I’m wearing shorts and a t shirt as I usually do in the evening when we aren’t going anywhere. To top it off, Sally is in the shower and can’t hear me knocking. It wasn’t too bad outside, but I wouldn’t want to hang out for too terribly long either.??

How to attach these side pipes?
atomicholiday replied to atomicholiday's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I’m gonna go with the drill and pin option. Sounds like the best way to go about this one. And it should look much better than my original idea. Thanks much gentleman! Appreciate the suggestions. -
Great start so far. Paint job looks awesome. I REALLY like your 1:1! Sweet ride.
