Yup. I’ve got a scar on my right hand pinky finger I’ve had for about 40 years from one of the old Testors blades when I was a kid. Going the opposite direction from drinking alcohol while modeling, don’t drink caffeine either. I shake bad enough without it. Give me some coffee and a fine brush for detailing? My builds start looking like when I was seven years old again!?

BMF is my kryptonite. I have a dozen kits stalled at that stage. It’s the next major hurdle I want to tackle.

As has become the norm lately, I’m flipping back and forth between this and the beetle project this afternoon . That one is at a standstill right now while paint and cement cure. While that’s happening, I did some detail painting on the Camaro firewall, and got it installed. These two kits are really starting to get fun again now that I’m starting to see progress. I’ve been looking for a good dark grey that would look right over black for just such applications and I think I finally found one I’m pleased with. This one is Model Master Engine Gray (4749) on the wiring. It’s about the darkest gray I have currently. And here it is in its new home-

Doing some rear suspension work today. The rear shock mount location doesn’t work well because the shocks are a little on the long side. The body of the shock interferes with the mounting point. Some round stock was added to the mounting position, and sticks out a little to give the shock something to attach to. After the cement is dry, I’ll touch up everything.

1964 Pontiac Lemans Convertible.
atomicholiday replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
It’s definitely appreciated. One of the things I’ve picked up from this forum is the different uses of the wip threads by different users. The way you present yours are educational and beneficial to anyone interested. So much more useful than just posting “well, the engine is done now”. -
Anyone ever tried this stuff for test fitting or gluing clear parts (or any other use)? I picked up a bottle a while back for something else but it seems like it would work. I’m going to try it out sometime, but thought I’d see if you guys have given it a shot.

1964 Pontiac Lemans Convertible.

Another ambitious build and another classic Pontiac (my personal favorite brand). Looking forward to learning from your updates sir. Best of luck with this one. -
Perfect! That’s exactly what I was trying to figure out. Thanks much. I was considering building one from scratch if it was something that just didn’t make sense in the real world. Still might, as the kit part doesn’t fit even remotely close. For the record, I’m not knocking the kit. Just trying to solve a problem with it.

I know next to nothing about Beetles. But I suspect the steering rack on the AMT Superbug Gasser kit is set up for right hand drive instead of left. All reference pictures I’ve looked at show it flipped from how the instructions show it. Can anyone here confirm my suspicion, or let me know if I’m wrong? Thank! I’ll get by with a little help from my friends! (Sorry, couldn’t help myself…?)

Well I was planning to lightly weather the floor pan, but now I’m really having second thoughts. I originally shot it with oxide red primer, and then recently clear coated it so a wash would flow better. I was going to do all the weathering and then flat coat the whole thing. Today I did just a small amount of detail painting prior to doing the weathering, and honestly I’m really pleased with the look as it sits. I think the gloss helped create more shadows and depth, and that was the main reason I wanted some light weathering to begin with. I’ll think about it for a bit, but I’m pretty content with it like this.

Sally’s out doing the Black Friday thing (yuck ?) with a friend, so I’m taking advantage and getting a little bench time in. I dry brushed on a little dark gray to the floor pan to add some depth. This is something I have been wanting to practice and start applying to all my builds going forward. First attempt was a total failure. So I watched a couple videos and figured out what I was doing wrong. Still got a little heavy-handed with it, but I think it’s better than just plain black. Also, it’s pretty cold outside today. 35f. But I stepped outside long enough to get some satin black on the shocks and steering components. I’m beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel on this one.

That’s really cool. Great color for a car like this.?

Looks awesome David. Very tidy workmanship.?

Thansk! it was getting a little frustrating, but it was worth it. The experience I gained was well worth the annoyance. I still haven't gone back and rubbed out the final finish, but I plan to fairly soon.

So back to this one after a little break. Working on getting the roll bars together. Both are quite fiddly, but this seems to work. The front bar is already glued together, but won’t get attached to the floor pan until after it’s painted. I’m only gluing one side at a time, allowing the glue to cure between sides. Trying to do both at once would probably be a real pain. More than my shakes would ever allow.?

It’s pretty hard to beat the old Monogram kits for building fun. Great start so far. Looking forward to this build.?

Replacement for Model Master Metalizer

Another option would be Vallejo Metal Color. Great stuff. I use it all the time. -
I don’t see any reason why not. I’ve passed along some good deals when I’ve seen them.
