  1. This one screams "Beaumont".
  2. When I met my wife about 32 years ago. [Wait, that can't be right, can it?? ?] Her brother Mike had a '69 GTX. This a replica I built of the car as a Christmas present for him as it was when he owned it. Sadly he passed a couple years ago but his daughter still has the model on a shelf in a case. This was built about 25 years ago so be nice. There's a lot of things I would have done differently now to correct some of the shortcomings of the kit.

    1969 GTX

I think it looks good Ron. My brother in law actually had a '69 GTX when the wife and I met so I'm pretty familiar with the cars and all the glaring mistakes MPC/AMT made on the kit [including that horn mistake on the instructions]. BUT, it does build up pretty well and you did a great job with it.
  4. Are you on the path Brian? This will be my third total. I'm old enough to remember the one in the Carly Simon song ,, but just barely.
  5. That's just fantastic. ???
  6. I disagree. The layout of the engine in the kit and the shape of the valve covers could only be a "B" or "RB" engine with it's distributor on the front. [383, 400, 440, etc.] A small block Mopar like a 318, 340 and 360 are "LA" engines with the distributor on the back and look quite a bit different then the kit engine. In fact, they look a lot like a small block Chevy on a quick glance.
  7. Scalemates info is incomplete. MPC issues Elcamino annuals every year from '78 through '82. An'80 GMC Caballero "El Diablo" was issued as well. It is a bit difficult to keep track of the MPC annuals in this era as they stopped putting the year on the kit and instead named them ["Night Moves" "Branding Iron" "Red Light Bandit"] in an attempt to keep the kits from being viewed as "last years" kit. Plus of corse, the "86 SS" update that was done in the early '90s
  8. Yup. Here's a page from the AMT Nova's instruction sheet. Note the part # on the Cragars.
  9. I bet you have the California Wheels reissue of the Elcamino, right? It has the wheels thrown in that originally came in the wagon,, along with a few other parts that are on the tree with them. SO, it actually has a total of 6 door handles in the kit. I'd say those Cragars are from the AMT stock '66 Nova.

    Love it, beautiful build. ?
  11. That's pretty wild Mike. ?
  12. IIRC, it's supposed to be a 426 wedge. It was the current hot engine when the kit was first done back in the early '60s.
  13. I agree, over 300 bucks is insane for an old Plymouth annual re-release. I'd never pay that either. Good thing they don't really go for that. There's 3 unbuilt on e-bay now. two are about $120 and the third is about $80. You could buy about 3 current kits or one of those. I guess it all depends on how bad you really want it, right. ? I will tell you a secret though, there's very few modellers who can build perfection. I've been doing this for about 50 years now and I know I sure can't do it. Don't worry about perfection or pining for a reissue that might never happen. Get what you want and built it while you can because you never know what might happen in the future.?
  14. molded in clear and replaced the window.
  15. Nice,, clean work. ?
  16. What's the paint you're using, Lee ? I'll need some when I do this car.
  17. Tamiya racing white maybe?
  18. Sitting in Easy Off for the last week didn't do much to take the first coat of dark blue off it so I thought I'd try rubbing alcohol. Started rubbing with paper towel wetted with 99% isopropyl alcohol and it rubbed right off. No idea what it was though. Must have been some kind of craft paint. Anyway, turns out the parts are in better shape then I expected with just minor glue rash in a couple spots. I have a kinda glue bomb version of the cabriolet that doesn't have the wells for the spare tires in the fender unit, just a couple small holes for exhaust pipes to go through. I'm gonna use that. I really don't want the fender mount spares on this build.
  19. 1 is the custom Caddy cap in the AMT '64 Mercury 2 is AMT '57 Thunderbird 3 is AMT '65 Chevelle/Elcamino
  20. Parts is parts. Doesn't matter if they came in a model box or 3-D printer.
  21. They look like the ones in the AMT '49 Mercury kits to me.
  22. I thought I had seen those in a Monogram kit but couldn't find pics of one yesterday.
  23. Charles may be a little confused but, , , What's wrong with the engines in the AMT Gremlin and Matadors? I thought they look pretty good.
  24. If they do put a flat hood in it. I'd say it will make a lot of people happy.
