  1. its actually just the ribbed and V-grooved evergreen styrene... I got really lucky with the material I used on the head, the fins fell in the perfect spots like the 1:1 finned head. I detailed it with .30 hexagon rod cut into bolt heads, after the glue drys I go back and sand the bolt heads flat. It really cleans it up nice, and it looks like a kit part in bare styrene. Here is a better photo of the cleaned up head: And a little bit of progress last night.... scratch built a transmission/drive... it would have to have a pretty small flywheel, but it looks the part.... nothing like scratch building in a bottle. haha
  2. I checked my store yesterday and for my existing models the price increase is substantial.... its making me wonder if I should research other sources for my own building projects and not worry about my store at all. example a 1/25th scale motorcycle frame I ordered a few months back was $13.27 the new price is $39.00..(granted its somewhat due to each of the separate parts being 7.99 as Chris pointed out... Thank you for that info!!) But at 39.00 plus shipping for a tiny motorcycle frame, i will find other options to make it. My woodlight headlights are going from 6.75 to 10.50 a set and thats just one piece, the cheater slicks I created are just downright astronomical.... like 50.00 or something stupid. Sadly i was really starting to enjoy using them as a source for cool one off parts, and had completely abandoned thoughts of getting my own printer... this may change that.
  3. Thanks Atin! Quick Little update... rear wheel/brake made. Mockup with the engine.... got a rear motor mount made, working on a front and firming up the positioning.... Next up is scratch building the shaft drive transmission.
  4. Thanks guys!! Finished up the head last night and started on the side cover. Hopefully this weekend I can get the motor mounts/transaxle figured out. A lot of imagineering there, but I think i can make something that looks somewhat real world possible
  5. Thanks guys! plugging away on scratch building this bike! Got the front wheel made using custom aluminum lathe turned rings and hub, then sandwiched (2) Toms Model Works #505 1/28th scale photo-etched brass wire wheel centers. http://www.tomsmodelworks.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=231 The rings were so tiny thin and delicate, it was really a challenge, I did have a spoke buckle on me, but i will put that where the fork is, and on the brake side... no one will know.... well except you guys haha. Then I used a bunch of pieces from a CrazyModeler Photo-etched brake kit to create something that somewhat resembles a bike brake. Once its all done ill use some brass bolt heads to make it pop more. Then I started scratch building a nice finned head, and low sump oil pan. Actually not bad, i shot some of my upol805 primer on it... I think one more sanding and another coat it we will be ready for paint. ... this thing is soooo tiny. haha
  6. This is fantastic! that paint just pops!! excellent work!
  7. Thank you all for the kind words!! It really means a lot!
  8. Actually, I don't know much about the Logo.... I had this on the in progress table at Toledo and Gary came up and said "I have something for you" He is building a fantastic NSX powered Manx, and had mastered a Photo-etch sheet for it, and he had some extras. I am super appreciative of that emblem, after the flake and clear the molded in one was totally gone.
  9. Thank you everyone for the kind words! The metal flake actually looks even better in person, it really blings and pops. I have gone down a rabbit hole using flakes lately...its something I've always been curious about, this hobby gives me a chance to experiment. I am working on a Roth Mailbox trike "box art inspired build" that is using this size silver flake as well as the .002 I used on my Foose Truck. I have the silver base layed and cleared, and its super sparkly! Those are from an old Model car garage photo-etched sheet... MCG-609 Sadly, no longer available, I've been snatching those up as well as the S&S bolt heads when I find them at shows and on eBay.
  10. I havent been on in awhile... and just logged in to have my mind blown! fantastic work Tim! Happy New Year!
  11. This is fantastic Pico!! thanks for taking us on the ride!
  12. Thank you everyone!! Yeah, i know... but the manifold and everything off that Tamiya super7 worked perfectly when i cut it in half... I figured its one of those things mainly only someone like yourself, who has messed with the real thing would notice... silly float bowls.
  13. I finally finished something! This started as a dare/quick Box Stock project that went down a rabbit hole, I'm pretty happy with the results especially considering the funky old simplified kit. Here are some of the details: Paint= Duplicolor T-218 Midnight blue base with Painthuffer Metalflake "Micro Heisenberg" .004 dry flake sprayed in a carrier clear. Then a few healthy coats of automotive urethane clear. Headlights from Revell 1929 Model A, hood emblem is a prototype piece from Gary Kulchock Interior= Custom printed lotus flower pattern decals, piping from blue detail wire, Detailmaster photo-etched gauge surrounds and faces, scratch-built riser blocks under front seats. Wheels and Tires= Keystone Mags from AMT 1957 Chevy, Lips added to rears to increase offset, Alclad chrome finish, Big and Little white letter tires from Round2 Mustang. Engine= Stripped all chrome kit engine, carbs from Tamiya lotus super7, velocity stacks made from wire ferrules, scratch-built exhaust with megaphones made from paintbrushes, lathe turned pulleys, belt from electrical tape, wired/detailed and photo-etched bolt headed. Thanks for looking!
  14. Good timing Bob! I'm cleaning off the bench and getting back on this thing tonight! Just finished up my Meyers Manx late last night and im beyond ready to jump back into the bronco and bike!
  15. http://www.thedrive.com/news/24870/california-wildfire-claims-vintage-car-collection-including-1-of-1-1948-norman-timbs-special The entire situation is gut wrenching.... my thoughts go out to all effected..
  16. Hey everybody! long time coming update.... unfortunately no real update on the actual truck, other than after the NNL I pulled it out of a box and started thinking about it again. My plans are to try and get this done for next years final toledo NNL. The real update here is on the motorcycle, I was all set to build it using the layered die-cut styrene technique, but then had a change of heart. I had recently designed and 3d printed a set of wheels on Shapeways, and i couldn't believe how much more reasonable the prices were. Especially for the frosted detail plastic. So I took the basic side profile for the motorcycle, tossed it into my 3D program and started to develop the rest of the frame and accessories. After a couple hours I had a decent frame, fork, split tanks and shaft drive diff. Uploaded to the site and I was amazed that shapeways only wanted 12.00 for these 5 pieces, much more efficient than the hours I was going to have to deal with layering styrene. The results really speak for themselves... I think this partnered with scratchbuilt elements should work just fine for a 1:25th scale Ford banger powered boardtracker! Here is the 3d model: and then the print straight out of the bag... its insanely nice.
  17. My favorite TROG story this year is Gene Winfield stripping down his roadster and running it at the young age of 91.... he also taught a metalworking workshop at Rob Idas shop that week... I only wish to be that cool when I get to my 90's.
  18. Per instagram the car is currently at Roy Brizio's shop and to be restored to its original version. https://www.instagram.com/roybriziostreetrods/?hl=en
  19. Thank you guys!! I really love the new look! Thank you! No Model of it yet... I started one back in 98 before the revell kit came out.... now ive been stockpiling kits, but the real car is never done, so I never know when to start building. Thank you!! yes that drove me crazy! Its a subtle thing, but removing the bumper guards and painting that makes the car look about 10ft wider and sleeker. Thank you!! no I didnt make it... I purchased it several years ago... along with all the other laminated knobs... its about the only one left. The interior is my baby on this thing.. lots of work in here. (the center console is also model inspired AMT 1956 ford? I think? ) Oh wow! that is beautiful! Fantastic job on that... A little part of me wants to try that on something someday.
  20. Thank you all for the kind words!!!
  21. Thanks Bob! they are the steel wheels from the AMT 1962 BelAir 409.. Just shot them with the Molotow Chrome via airbrush. hahaa.. Thanks tom! I have to say I had quite a few people say that the "guy in the yellow shirt" looked better this year too... maybe we should shave more often? hahaa How crazy was that? Wadsworth was well represented in new jersey..Must be something in the water. That was Mr. Bill Borgen.
  22. Hey guys I have uploaded a couple new things to my shapeways store... http://shpws.me/QgcJ The slicks from my comet showod, and an amazing set of RotiForm ZRH wheels.. I was working on a Lambo and couldn't find the right wheel combo, so i just made them... and figured I might as well share with the class.
  23. Something kind of cool happened for me recently... wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience? I finished my custom foose truck with chrome reverse wheels with "color chrome" centers..... its a look I've loved for a long time and remember seeing in various vintage magazines. When it came time to upgrade the tires on my 1:1 scale impala, I decided to just copy the look... I cant guarantee I would have thought of this if I hadn't just built the truck. Its an odd combination for the car, and something I hadn't seen before anywhere, yet I was quite confident it would work based on the model. Also I love how a vehicles perceived image can be changed so much by wheels and tires... I'll keep the wires so I can easily swap back and forth from mild custom to lowrider when the mood strikes me.
  24. Yeah the 6 lug thing is kinda a bummer (even on the 1:1).... although in this other photo I found, the wheels look like 6 lug smoothies painted white. You can probably source centers and make a lip? That is if you want to make more of a replica... either way consider me subscribed to this one, I love these trucks!
