  1. Thanks Trevor! The Z is a 1973.. it has an LS2 putting down 380 at the rear wheels, full custom cage and all trick suspension.... We built it for a friend 10 years ago, last year he decided to part with it and I snatched it up... its very fun and terrifyingly fast. The 510 is a 1972 and we are going for mild street toy... flares, roll bar, L-series engine with sidedrafts... pretty standard hopped up 510. The 620 truck is a 1976.. and a recent addition to the stable... lucky craigslist find. We also have a 510 wagon and 4 door... mainly because my dad has always deemed it necessary to have one of each 510 body style... although we have never managed to get an sss coupe. its a sickness..
  2. much like Jesse... my current garage situation looks like an episode of this show I haven't had time to watch... haha... but i will get around to it eventually. Datsun 510 (dads) and 240z (mine) full rotisserie builds.. life long datsun family.. my dad raced them in the 70's , 80's and early 90's (hence all the trophies) We also have a similar shop truck situation...
  3. Ive been watching on instagram darren.... this is all fantastic... Consider me a huge fan.
  4. A couple I lust for on a regular basis.... Clean Rivy custom: Nutty gocart mini cooper:
  5. Thank you guys for the kind words! I really appreciate it. Thanks Dan! but if you would have seen it up close after I sprayed that gold flake... It almost went back in a box to never be seen again... it looked like 80 grit sandpaper.. haha.. It was just the value line urethane clear from the local paint store, I always use the cheaper clear... they try to up-sell me with the premium stuff by telling my it has a higher build, and better UV protection.. neither matter for model car stuff... in fact I think the thinner stuff is a plus... keeps it from having the "dipped in goo" look.
  6. Oh man Chris... This is fantastic! I cant even find the words to tell you how much I dig this.. The offset cabin and opening the wheel-wells up is a fantastic choice. Show Rods are so much fun.
  7. This thing is so cool.... Great work Tim!!!
  8. Thanks john! It is just detail master red ignition wire, i have used a bunch of different types of wire... tend to go with "the smaller the better" for piping, even the red I used is still too large, if you look at it as 1:1 scale.
  9. Thank you guys! It was an honor to bring home that award! That wasn't really the original intent of this build, at all... it was just a paint experiment that happened to go really well... then a slight thrash to have it done for the show.
  10. Thank you to the Tri-State Scale model club and Tom for putting on an excellent show!! Met a ton of great people, this is one of the highlights of my year. Such a great time, so many amazing builds the day goes so fast. Loved the addition of the slideshow/model images with the awards. See you next year!
  11. Thank you!! The exhaust is K-S Aluminum tube hand polished with Auto Wenol Metal polish... This stuff is fantastic, and shines stuff up quick and easy. https://www.amazon.com/100-tube-Auto-Wenol-blue/dp/B002CBUD0M/ref=pd_bxgy_201_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B002CBUD0M&pd_rd_r=HWW0Q8V2TWZYSYJC3TNZ&pd_rd_w=pSbc2&pd_rd_wg=VdFKX&psc=1&refRID=HWW0Q8V2TWZYSYJC3TNZ
  12. All Done!!! Thanks Craig!! Its actually just a piece of 1/8" brass tube... I needed something to transition from 3/32" solid rod to 3/32" tube, so i made these hangers... They looked a bit bland so I tossed them on the lathe and kissed them 3 times with a rounded bit..
  13. James you will have a blast! Looking forward to meeting you and seeing your stuff in person... oh and just bring all the things... more models = more better.
  14. I was actually thinking that at first.... if I can procure some nice finned jugs of the right size, the rest doesn't seem to challenging to scratchbuild.... Yeah.. I pulled out one of my parts pack engines over the weekend... and it seemed a bit small... I'm thinking this may be a 3d model and Shapeways print situation.... which will still be fun. I also am not sure how much of the engine will really be visible in the final vehicle, I can probably cut a few corners... mainly want the upper cover and valve train covers.... Sorry for the sporadic thoughts...I'm kind of thinking out loud.
  15. Ya know... I was thinking the same thing while bending this up.... not quite sure the answer on that one, in real life there would be some burnt metal flake....... but it is a really cool look. Thanks Rob!
  16. Thank you guys!!! getting closer... and almost done... Knocked out the exhaust and installed the interior, running boards, grill and headlights/taillights.... I also decided to go with chrome reversed wheels, red candy centers and spidercaps, so the first step was to molotow chrome some steel wheels.
  17. Man that's awesome! I'm doing some 1:1 bead-rolling for the first time and I wish my experimental results looked like yours. Very cool stuff! Please keep us in the loop as you perfect this technique, I would like to give it a shot at some point.
  18. Fantastic work Joe!! super clean build! pleasure to see it finished!
  19. Im excited to see everyone! My dad and I will be leaving next Friday morning and heading over that way...should be there in time for dinner. After the show we will be making a detour down to Maryland to pick up some datsun parts. Looking forward to a fun and exciting show and road trip! well, that's a genius idea... ill do it.
  20. Thanks Bob! I use the Bob Smith Industries - Super Gold CA Glue.. Its the foam safe stuff, which doesn't really matter to me, but if does not fog at all... so no chance of white frosty piping. I put some in a spoon, and use a piece of .025 piano wire to apply it to the red wire, then i press it in place with the blunt end of a toothpick... just slow and steady about 3/4" at a time unless its a long straight piece. The hardest part for me is keeping my big dumb fingers from pressing it down, if you do that the glue oozes out and you get fingerprints.... always using the toothpick helps. If you do get to much glue on it, the worst thing you will see is a bit of glossiness around the piping, you can get rid of that with a final coat of matte or flat clear after the pipe. .. luckily i didn't have to do that on this build, the pearl white helps hiding things... its pretty forgiving. Once you get going and develop a technique, it actually goes pretty quick.. I really enjoy the process and how detailed it makes the seat look.
  21. Thank you Jim and Jonathan! Lay'ed about 3ft of piping last night! Took some time, but the results are well worth it.
  22. Related.. yet unrelated... Franklin O-200 air cooled flat 4.....anyone ever see one of these kitted in 1/24? or something close? Looking for one of these for an upcoming project... figure I most likely will end up scratch building it...
  23. This also is pretty exciting... should be able to recreate some fun SCCA club racing cars.
  24. YESSSS!!! Ive been stockpiling those kits to make my own... but i would rather have a kit... or several
  25. Thanks guys!! Making more progress... got the dash all detailed up last night.... more updates soon... I would like to have this done next Tuesday for our club meeting.
