You're probably right - I eventually punted the convertible - to me it was just hopeless, and I'm too old to take a year to fix a single kit.
-
I found the new reissued convertible to be based on a very worn tool - I remember try to determine where the sunvisors should be cut off the sprue because wear made the pieces kind of blend together - I was so wrong that I had to completely remove the sunvisors to salvage the project (which I eventually put aside in disappointment). Would you say that the original release is any better, as in with less wear?

I was wondering what a person could expect out of the 1991 release of the 69 Chevelle SS396?

Very nice! BTW, I have successfully installed windows with Gold superglue by Bob Smith Industries - I use InstaSet (also by BSI) as the kicker. No fogging at all!

K&S ENGINEERING STAINLESS STEEL FOIL
fseva replied to fseva's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for your insight! I did not know that .002 could be considered "thick" compared to BMF. BTW, what is the thickness of BMF? In the meantime, I have found several sources of stainless steel foil on a self-adhesive backing. However, these are labelled for "industrial" use; so they are probably too thick. -
I was just wondering if anyone might have tried this as a substitute for BMF? It obviously has no adhesive - I'm thinking "foil adhesive" as available in craft stores... it could perhaps give a better chrome effect...

Personally, I would take the other one off and call it a day! After all, if you're building a hardtop, no one will ever see them anyway!

Brett, did you buy their thinner? If so, can you tell what it is - alcohol, or something else?

Blue 68 Camaro -- what colour?
fseva replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would go with metallic blue like Tamiya X13... I think Cobra Guardsman Blue looks the right shade, but may be a bit too dark... BTW, if you are hoping for a formula, I think you're going to be disappointed - the small hobby paint manufacturer's guard this type of info like it was gold - took a lot of work coming up with formulas that match existing car paint colors (intellectual property)! -
What is the base for Xtreme Metal? Lacquer, enamel? BTW, it is available at HobbyLinc in the USA, but it is kind of expensive - $9.56 for 30ml (1.01oz). However, if it can resist handling, I would try it. How would you say it is with handling? Is it easy to damage just with your skin oils?

Just gorgeous!

I was reading a back issue yesterday, and they had a piece on Testors Dodge Daytona. Cons include - the body was painted the wrong color, and the paint had some orange peel; the louvers on the functioning doors looked oversized; center ridge on hood is too thick; the nose sits too high; the "bubbles" on top of the fenders to allow more suspension travel are mounted too far forward; vertical stabilizers on wing don't slant enough toward the rear. Now, the pros - flawless chrome, 2 sets of wheels and tires. Finally, the problems with the inaccurate body may not be fixable because of the diecast metal body.

problem with duplicolor can
fseva replied to gobobbie's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I can't imagine any store that would knowingly sell defective materials, and this is certainly defective. If it's not a problem for you, I would take it back and ask for a simple exchange. Ask them to try it before you accept it. Barring that, demand a refund. IMHO, you should get it! -
I've been thinking of trying my first resin car (available body only) with an already chopped body. My main problem is losing the windshield and the other windows from the donor kit. If I have to use a flat plastic, what is the best, clearest, most scratch-resistant plastic available for modelers, and what thickness would you recommend?

It's hard to tell because your photo is in shadow, but it could be Lemans Blue... -

Who has the best redlines in the market?
fseva replied to meaneyme's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Wow - that's neat! I'll have to check 'em out! -
You know, I completely forgot that I had one of these kits in the basement - it's the one with brown plastic. Checked the taillights, and they are chrome, as you said, and they seem to fit pretty well!

I think they have appeared in some recent AMT kits, and they are now available in a "parts pack". I understand they are hollow though, like their other tire packs (ie Polyglas GT, Blue Streak Slicks, etc.). Since I've never seen any other redlines, I can't do any comparisons... -
Do you remember having a problem with the rear taillights?
-
Wow - it actually includes their redline tires?! That alone might justify buying this kit! Can you give me any more info about the kit... is it one of those oldies-but-goodies that could be flashed heaviy? Is it based on a wornout toolilng?
