The Beast - Tank-truck
Nosferatu replied to Nosferatu's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thank you guys for your kind comments. This was a really fun build and I learned a lot. Dave -
I like what you have done. Your previous dioramas are really nice. I would like to do a diorama but I don't have the room. Dave

I have completed The Beast. A total of 22 hours from start to finish. I watched a few videos on weathering and did my best. It was a lot of fun and I will do it again. The seat took about 2 hours. I ground the seat for the holes. I then used aluminum wire for the springs and rusted them. I put painters tape over the seat and made the cuts. Then painted the exposed “seat foam” and finish painted the blue seat cover then added the oil stains. I used the salt method, paint and rust inhibitors on the body and finished it with a light yellow color that was close to the 1953 Ford F100 original color. I added the rusted Ibeam for the bumper...you never know when you will need to take a tree down! Thanks for looking and I hope you like it. Dave

I bought a box of 1000 wooden coffee stirrers, sand, stain and seal them. the box will last forever. -
I go to thrift shops and find these toys with cool wheels and tires. The toys are about $2 with senior discount. Cut the axles and re-purpose.

I picked this up at Goodwill. Its still bagged and came with glue. I also got 25% off the sticker for seniors.

I used other scale tank parts, maybe 1/35th, not quite sure of the scale. I sectioned the main chassis and eliminated a few of the wheels. I find tank parts at military model swap meets and flea markets. -
I have lots of models and never build one out of the box. I use everything for parts. I buy these bins at thrift stores for about $5 each and put bodies in one, tires in another, etc.

Progressing along here. I am attempting to weather the bench seat. I've never tried this before. I made the springs. Lots more to do on the seat. Also going to put some rust on the truck body. I have some primer on it in the weathered areas. I will try the salt method. The bed floor still needs some work. Thanks for looking! Dave -

I did a bit more work on the build. I hope this Ford 427 will be enough power to haul this beast around. -
