All New Tool big rig from AMT !!!!!
stavanzer replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I sure hope it is not a Freightliner or Western Star. They are mediocre trucks, sold mostly to fleets, on Price only. After having them in our fleet, I saw just how much downtime they accumulated for Warranty Repairs. It was a constant drip-drip-drip, of lost time and money due to both major and minor issues. The company actually saved money by swapping out more expensive Kenworth's and Peterbilt's for the Freightliners, just because they stayed on the road so much longer between repair visits. A true case of spending money to save money. -
Yeah, Dave, I'm with you on that one! I'd love to see that one and the '34 Ford kit returned to their original roots.

1/25 AMT 1964 Olds Cutlass F85 Convertible
stavanzer replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Mark, is a 1964 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser Wagon that much bigger? I thought the the huge Battleship sized GM Wagons were a product of the later 1960's. -
Tommy, the 1970's are now 50 years in the past. The business climate was totally different back then. If you'll remember, AMT was bought at by Lensey/Matchbox in 1978, after a bad decade, including a strike which proved to be a major blow, a slowing down of the Promo business, and a Close Call with actual Bankruptcy. The Mod Stocker Race Car kits, were a desperate AMT trying to squeeze more life out of pre-existing tooling, without having to spend major dollars on new tools. Notice too, that this was the era when many older kits from the 1960's, lost their separate Red Plastic taillights, and the tooling was changed to all chrome pieces. Note also, that many 1970's reissues of older tooling, had many parts blocked off in order to reduce costs. Did AMT Tool up new kits? of course they did. But, the 1970's were decidedly NOT the 1960's, and business-wise, were much more challenging for the company. We are indeed lucky they survived.

72 Chevy Wedge Racer's Wedge release announced.
stavanzer replied to GMP440's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
So, who'll be the first to combine the Racer's Wedge with the up coming '64 Olds Cutlass, built in it's Drag Racing version? -
Casey is correct. Round2 is using Coke Collectors, to subsidize kits for the rest of us. I have no doubt that the beloved '63 Chevy wagon and the '64 Olds Cutlass kits are coming (in part) the profit derived from those Coke Kits that some people are so negative about. No Coke kits=fewer profits. Fewer profits=less money to restore old tooling. It is really just that simple, to just some degree. Tim Boyd, Dave Van, and many others on the board, who have been involved to both big business, and with the manufacturers of kits, have explained many times that TODAY"S corporate structure for Round2, Moebuis, Atlantis, and Salvino's Jr. is a small team of dedicated people, with tight budgets, limited time, and more subject matter, than they have time and resources to produce. This explains (at least to me) why it has taken Round2 several years to translate Customer intertest in the '64 Olds Hanger Shot, into a real kit. It may have taken only a few months, to recognize that the extreme interest in this kit, would make it a potential Sales winner. It would take years, to coordinate all of the things on the "To Do List" to make it happen. If the next old tool that gets chosen to be brought back to life, has to plastered with Coke logos to fund it, sign me up for more Coke!

Is that Photo Etch in the lower right corner?

Yeah, and who is buying the stolen decorations? Your neighbors. (and mine too, I have no doubt). Property Theft is far more serious than our current Justice System believes it to be. Very Sad.

Ace is correct. The Idiocracy is here. Delayed Maintenance, Arguments about who-pays-for-what, and other Office Shenanigans. All of it by folks who most likely could not spell "Radio Telescope" much less understand what it did. BUT, they did get to be in charge of all those Pointy Headed, Double Domes, and get them to to grovel at their feet so Midwits could feel better. Thus does Civilization die. The Poet T.S. Eliot was right. "Not with a Bang, but a Whimper"

I KNEW we'd be seeing those Surf Boards in other kits! Way to go, Round2!
-
Now, can we get them to release just the trailer? Please?
-
Well, Adam we ARE getting the '64 Olds With the Awesome Judson Superchargers! So there is hope. But even if they DO listen to us, I figure we would not see the kit until early 2022. So many other projects in front of it. That's alright though. I can wait.

You can. Well, Stock-ish, anyway. Fill the hole in the hood, and use the hubcaps from the Christine kit. Not perfect, but close.

On another thread, mention is made of a later release having the trailer. I'd be keeping my powder dry for that one, if I was to purchase any of these kits. I'd need the decals from this one, though.- 599 replies

Thank You, Casey. I do not use facebook, so I don't see these announcements -
I just saw this. Horrible news, indeed.

I'd be happy to see Round2 run this kit again. There is no need for the execrable "Kotter" figures to ever re-appear either. Round2 could add those (relatively) newly tooled 5 spoke mags that have been included in a half dozen kits now. Add a set of tires with Wide Whites on one side and pinstripes on the other. Design some Radical Decals (One of Round2's Strongest Skills, now), and I think the kit would work well. Run no more than 1500-2000 of them, and see what they do. As CapSat 6 says, unblock everything in the tool, and let the buyers decide what they want. A quik check of the '69 and '71 Grand Prix instruction sheets over at the Drastic Plastic archive, shows that the G/P base kit has never had any engine options. There have been the Faux spare tire overlay for the trunk, the snazzy side pipes, and a whole group of snow skiing extra parts, as well as the "Wild Put-on Parts" from the '71 issue. If any of these pieces still exist in the tool, they would enhance the kits value. Throwing in the snow tires would be a nice thing if the Skis, sled and other winter parts are still there. And this does not count the "Super Fly" parts that might still be in the tooling as it exists now. All in all, I think a good case can be made to run it as it sets now. "

"correct" scale for new releases
stavanzer replied to Motor City's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What Pete J says is correct from all I've ever read. So, ranting about European this or Oddball that, is really beside the point. Two groups of engineers, separated by time, geography, and the business demands of their respective employers, settled on two slightly different scales. It can be annoying, I'll admit. But, it was not ever about upsetting customers, for what were originally designed as "essentially disposable" Children's toys. These tools were never really intended, 50-60 years ago to last until the 21st Century. They have and we're "almost" always happy to have the product they produce. There is no reason that most manufacturers are going to switch to a different scale going forward, when it does not mesh with their back catalog. Revell is the only one who seems to have done so. Revell, now a mostly European company, is of course going to design new kits in a scale that is sold world wide. They are, after all, a global company serving a large global market. The USA is now a Modeling backwater, as hard as that is to hear. Revell, is happy to sell here. I doubt that US likes and dislikes are a big factor in product development in a German Company run by Bankers. Are US wants/desires a factor in Revell thinking? Of course. But they are not the dominant factor anymore. This can be seen just by looking over the last 18 months of product and announcements coming from Revell. Many People like the Two Snap Tractor Kits however, note that they are of German Prototypes, not Farmall or John Deere. Sadly, US desires in new kit subjects, are no longer a Major Factor going forward in a now Global Business. China is the Key market now, with Asia, and then Europe. Our buying and building is driven by Likes/Dislikes and Passions. All Model Companies new kit development is driven by Desire first and Business Case second. And Business Case always wins in an "Era of Low New Kit Tooling budgets", and Shallow Sales Numbers. -
I've seen them before, but those are wonderful Builds, Tom. Hard to believe that one of them is a 24 hour Build.

Atlantis Sinclair fuel truck at Hobby Lobby.
stavanzer replied to GMP440's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Atlantis will sell you the Newly Tooled Glass for the fuel truck. It never had any before, but Atlantis tooled up brand new parts. https://atlantis-models.com/clear-windshield-glass-set-for-the-vintage-gas-truck/ All future issues of the truck will get glass. Also, the Chevy Stakebed has brand new glass also, and every kit "should" ship with the glass.
