You've never spent an afternoon in the late 1990's - (1998-1999) with him. Friend of mine was a writer for one of the 'Kar Kulture' type magazines back then. He got an assignment and tickets for a small car show down in the SoCal area. Barris was there to judge both the 1-1 and model car model contests. I got invited to tag along. It was a great little show, and I got to meet a man I had heard of and read about since I was 12. Boy! What an Eye-Opener. He was nice enough to my friend and me, because were we there from a magazine, but to other people? What a rude, crude guy. He had a potty mouth, and was very aware of his fame. He was, as they liked to say in the old days, "Handsy". The various Pretty Young Things that are a fixture at SoCal Car shows and in 'Kar Kulture' magazines, stayed as far as they could away from him. Oh, they posed for the photos, but then backed away quickly. I am surprised that he got away with as much as he did. But, he was friendly (mostly) with his fans,(in private-between bursts of the crowd, when no one could hear him, what a different story) and was obviously good friends with some of the 1-1 car builders who were there. And, his interest in judging the model car contest was entirely genuine. He really lit up when looking at the builds, and had good things to say about many of them. In short, what I saw that day, (and later at the March Meets where I met him again), was a complicated man who had both good and bad sides. Custom Cars would be a totally different thing without him.

Almost a Flying Car

A great comparison of the relative sizes of both machines. That is only a small chunk of P-51, yet is is almost bigger than the car. -

The Ugliest Corvette Ever?

So, That was what they were attempting! Sadly, I really like those cars. -
I see only two U.S, Style trailers listed, so you are correct. https://www.italeri.com/en/product/2397/7/34 https://www.italeri.com/en/product/589/7/34 I am guessing that in true Italeri fashion, this is the same parts, sold in 2 different boxes, with the chiller parts added to one. There is this kit also. https://www.italeri.com/en/product/590/7/34 But it of course is discontinued.

Jolly Sipper. You have great taste in racing aircraft. The Red One is a DH 88 Comet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_DH.88_Comet The Blue One is a Caudron C.460 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caudron_C.460 The phot you chose shows modern replicas flying at an airshow (probably in Europe) As for me, My Favorites are 1. F-15 Eagle 2. Spad 13 3. Couzinet 10 Arc-en-Ciel Here is something about the last. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Couzinet_10 I have a weakness for 1930's era French Trimotors.

The May 2001 issue of Model Cars magazine, on page 32 has a photo of a kit built by Doug Hale, and shown at the 1st Seattle Nationals 2000 show. It is a kit bash combining the AMT Star Trek Shuttlecraft and a 1/32 scale Monogram Fire Truck. Called the "Asteroid City Fire Truck", I'm looking for more photos of this build. A freind of mine saw the photo in my copy of the magazine and wants to build his own. I'm trying to help him. Many Thanks!

Update on selling kits. So, I've sold about a third of them. I'm taking a bit of a break. I sell between 6 and 14 Kits every Time my auctions end. It is a very slow process, but it is steady. -

Revell Slingster buildup and kit review....
stavanzer replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I have one of these sitting in a box, unstarted. I opened it up and got "Christmas Tree Syndrome". Just too many ways to build it! Too many Choices. About the time I'd settle on one version, I'd begin to second guess myself. I figured I'd just buy more and then build more, but that never happende. Maybe some daY I'll drag it out and build it! Thanks for the excellent review and thoughts, Tim! -
amt 1202 1/25 AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon - Craftsman Plus
stavanzer replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
We can only hope, Dave. From what I'm hearing the first production run may have already sold out in just Hobby Stores. (Both Brick&Mortar and Online) We may have to wait for a second production run, before HL gets any. That said, I am just guessing here, and would be happy to be proven wrong.- 599 replies

History of AMT & MPC's Action Line Pickup Kits
stavanzer replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Notice how the Chrome Trees get smaller & smaller? The '72 is about 1/3 the size of the '70. Notice too, how the MPC and AMT '70 chrome trees look completely alike on the right side of the tree where the 4 stock wheel covers are seen. -
Hey Miles. Don't be too upset with your self. I had the Night Rider kit, and really liked. It IS a snap kit, so much detail is simplified. For all that, however, with Wheel Swap to install decent tiers and wheels on it, it does loo sharp on the shelf. The Revell Snap kit shares nothing in common with the Silver/Black 1/24 scale ex-Monogram kit that was just posted. Underhood detail is lacking, but it should build easily into another acceptable display kit. Cheers, Alan

1/24 Heller Renault Estafette
stavanzer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
"Cute" is not a word I'd ever apply to this car. "Unique", Yes. -
Well, I finally got a chance to watch the video. It has 4 Slicks. Yeah! Way to go Round2 But, I see the Sheriffs Jimmy from the Movie, "The Milagro Beanfield War', as a potential build option. A least I won't need any aftermarket Resin Parts now, to convert the Chevy Kit.

The Ugliest Corvette Ever?

I really like the Sad Vette. If I had extra money, I'd be hunting down to restore. -
https://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/2021/01/if-batman-did-meth.html Found this while Browsing. I like the nose, but the car is tacky and odd. Can anybody post the pics?

Woot! I really like that car.

There are hood fit issues with the hood at the back corners, near the cab. Right side is worse Than the left.

Matas, if you could give us some idea of your modeling interests, we can be more helpful.

Miles. Yes and no. The Crew Chief is the Chevy Blazer version of the tool. There is also a GMC Jimmy Version, which is the one this thread is about. Truthfully, other than the Grille, Tailgate, Hood and, Decals there probably won't be much difference in the kits. I'm just curious to see what is in the box. If you look at the clear tree in your Blazer kit, you can still see the 4 small GMC Headlight lenses. I think the "Jimmy" name plates are on the chrome tree, as well, but I don't have the kit handy to confirm.
