72 Pontiac GTO Questions
stavanzer replied to stavanzer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks, Gents. I'll scrap the Trips, and find a good Bug Eye Air Cleaner, and assemble the rest of the motor stock. Carmak. You said Slot Mags? Would Cragars work too? -
Could a "Day 2" '72 GTO have the triple carb setup that was used on the earlier GTO's? I want to build the MPC/AMT GTO that way, but I'm not sure that the tri-power is a Legit Mod. It would sure be nice to see this one come back, Round2.

I've done several trades. I've been very happy with all of them.

Tom, That would be a Cool Aztek! I'd certainly drive it.
-
I'd own an Aztek. I like the looks. I don't like the dreadful GM Build quality. I'd cheerfully buy and build a Model of one.

Clear Coat over Powerslide decals?
stavanzer replied to mopargreg's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You don't need a clear coat over decals. The real ones seldom used one. I don't know why so many modelers want to clear coat every thing....... -
1/25 AMT 1964 Olds Cutlass F85 Convertible
stavanzer replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thank you for posting this Information all in one spot, Casey. I was searching for the 'hanger shot' pic, when I posted on the other thread about this kit. -
New reissue of Monogram 56 Chevy Belair

Rob Mattis, has the right of it. Fun Kits to build. Enjoy them for what they are, and look for the "Other" Revell '56 for accuracy. -
Hobby Lobby re-opening
stavanzer replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Went to ours, last Friday, the first day it was open. Only 300 people allowed in the store at a time. Waited in line 10 minutes to get in, as the had an employee at the door counting people! Nothing new on the shelf. Went again today. No employee at the door, but lots of One Way Floor Arrows. And a HUGE checkout line. 2 new kits on the shelves, also. The new Coke Willus Gasser and the '62 Pontiac Polyglass Gasser. Good to see, but no sale to me. I guess I'll wait another week and see what happens. -
I used a Vice in my dad's workshop. I killed some Matchbox cars that are probably worth a mint today. A few Hotwheels too.
-
Ok, I'll take your share of them.

I've just never Liked to movie. Weaver's character starts off unlikeable, and just gets worse as the movies wears on. By the end, I was rooting for the Pete! Anything to get rid of that Valiant and Weaver. I just hope Mr Mann is not in anyway biographical for Mr Matheson.

My house is relatively new (1986) and a tract home, not a custom build. In it's Day it was a faux "Upscale House" with High End features at a Tract Home price. (i.e. Fireplace, Vaulted Ceilings, a then trendy "Galley style Kitchen, enclosed Laundry Room and combined Brick/Stucco exterior finish.) It has a vague Semi-Mediterranean flavor to the outside, with California Spanish touches. It is a real Mishmash of styles, and pretty common for what was being built back then. It was (and STILL is!) a nice house. Framed with 2"x6" studs and all copper plumbing, it is a real "Keeper". My Wife and I love it. That said, there is a small (14' x 8') patio in the back with a small roof. It is a decent patio, if a bit small. But, when it was built, the concrete was done in the "Glass Smooth" surface finish that guarantee's that the slightest bit of water converts the patio into an Instant Ice Rink. I just finished my nightly watering and put my foot wrong. I saved myself tonite, at the cost of a wrenched shoulder, and an over-extended hip. What I want to know, is what is with the mirror finish concrete in patios and walkways back then? The walkway from the driveway to the front door, has the same slippery finish, and is just as treacherous in the rainy season. Why was this done? I'm clueless as to the reason....... I'll be looking at Lowes/Home Depot for some Non-Skid Paint or Acid Etch or something to fix this, as I'm too old to break a hip slipping on a wet patio. (not that you are ever young enough to slip, but you know what I mean) I'm tired of living with this problem and a need to fix it........ Thanks for listening to me.

I think this is the '64 Olds kit, that is coming. Convertible, rather Hardtop, is what we know so far. If it comes with the Judson Supercharger, it moves to the head of my purchase list. There are some great parts shown on the kit. It will be fascinating to see which parts have survived. I note a clear Grill Screen that would be awesome, and some Driving/Fog lights with separate, clear lenses. The "Hanger Shot" that was shown on the Collector Model Blog, was small, and it was hard to see what exactly was still in the kit, but IIRC, the Chrome tree looked pretty close to full of parts, in the photo. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/oldsmobile/amt-64-f-85-cutlass/?view=roll#1 This is a Huge Deal for Round2, as it shows them reviving a kit that needed the most costly part re-tooled. Fixing the body is a major undertaking.

Got the word today that I can move the computer from home, back to the office on Monday. Yea! I'm liked being home, but it made doing my job much harder. Now, I can do the things that need to get done much faster. I'm looking forward to it. It's gonna cost much more in Gas tho- 18 mile round trip from Home to Office and back to Home. Ah well, you win some, you lose some.

New reissue of Monogram 56 Chevy Belair
stavanzer replied to oldscool's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'll be getting one of these, as a parts donor, only. It will give up the stock engine and 'batwing' aircleaner for a Monogram '39 Chevy Sedan Delivery build I'm planning. So, the body shape issues are of no concern to me. -

That Gremlin is horrible. Nuke it from Orbit, just to be sure, after you burn it.
