Hobby Lobby re-opening
stavanzer replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mine opened last Friday. (the 22nd) Nothing new on the shelves. I was going to get something, but the lines to checkout were very long. I'll wait. -
Amazing Build. For as many of those Model T Touring/XR Double kits that AMT sold, You almost never see the little XR-6 Rod built. You did tremendous Work dragging that one across the line.

Dang Fine Job, Scott. The Colour is Perfect.

Looking forward to the '65 Ford kit. It looks to have had at least some of the extra parts added back in, and it has all new decals. I wonder which Mod Stock kit is up next? I'm hoping for the Buick or Olds, but the '64 Ford would be nice too.

$32.00 seems a bit much for a '41 Plymouth with 4 bottle crates and some Coke decals. I'll pass.

1/25 AMT 1927 Ford T Vintage Police Car
stavanzer replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I have the White Box, Molded in light blue, version of the '27 Touring. I just checked the chrome tree. It has the Front Mag Rims and the dropped front axle on the chrome tree.. It might be worth checking out. -
So this is definition of PRO BUILT?
stavanzer replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Slightly OT. Years ago my folks were members of the Horseless Carriage Club. I remember that we had one guy who joined who did not know a wrench from a screwdriver. He was an accountant, and had the mechanical instincts of a Goldfish. He joined the club, and within 3 months bought a nicely restored '26 Ford Model T Roadster Pickup, from a member of the Club. "Bob" was an enthusiastic member of the Club. He and his T, made every event we held. He would take his T over to the original owners house for maintenance, and repairs. He even learned some small repair skills with his car. When I left, "Bob" was running for president of the Club. "Bob" could never have restored that T. Heck, he could not even drive it, when he bought it. Nonetheless, he was crazy about Old Cars, and he knew enough to know that he could only do so much. It never stopped him, from having fun. It is easily possible that for some people, Building a Model is just not going to happen. That does not stop them from appreciating Models, though. So, They buy what they cannot build. As long, as they don't try to pass off the builds as their own work, I'm happy to have them in my hobby! -
History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups
stavanzer replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Well, I like the PD/MM kit a bunch so,I'd be happy to see it return too. If the Top is still in the tooling, that is all that you have to have to build a stocker, as long as you could get parts from the K series Pickups. -

So, I wonder where the Blazer/Jimmy tooling is today. Revell or Atlantis? Either way, I'd be really happy to have it come back. -
50,000 + kits from just one mold ?
stavanzer replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I cannot argue with your experiences, Noel. You have the right of it. Hobby shops are about a lot more than just selling kits and parts. But, That truth CANNOT EVER be explained to any body who has a Masters degree in Business. -
50,000 + kits from just one mold ?
stavanzer replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, it happens to me most Often at Hobby Lobby. I try to get an idea of what the builder wants. I've steered kids to snap kits, and away from some of the more labour intensive kits. I've suggested ones I know are easier to build, and away from some kits that are more of a bear to build. Yeah the old AMT '40 Sedan is a pretty easy kit to get good results from, but some newer kits aren't. It's just a bit of conversation really. I just try to provide some background info, on the choices that are there on the shelf.
