  1. Ya, I wonder about the purple pond option sometimes though. Between the cost of the pond, a couple cans of primer, and a couple cans of paint. I could have bought a new kit. Put the leftover bits in the parts box and moved on. But we are modelers, throwing away styrene just can't be done. Car has been removed from the pond, bondo work has been redone and body is back in primer. Might see some progress this weekend.
  2. WOW, that one was a challenge. Answer submitted.
  3. Just out of curiosity since I am fairly new the auto ID game here, have any of them gone unanswered/unsolved? While I figured out the last two fairly easily, this one is proving to be a real challenge.
  4. Here is my disaster of a 36 progress. Pic of the look that I am going for. This might be my first two tone, separation line turned out very well. Then two problems occured. I was wet sanding it before clearcoat and realized that the silver flake color should not be sanded, went ahead and clear coated it anyways hoping it might clear up the lines in the silver, didn't work. Then the next day as the clear dried, adhesive residue from when I taped it for the two tone started showing through despite being wet sanded and washed. Anyways, it has now taken it's second bath in the purple pond. Third times a charm, right!!!
  5. Here is a kit I started several years ago that I decided to finish up. For a basic kit, it sure needed a lot of work on a few things. This particular kit has a lifted suspension(poorly designed blocks at the frame), and when AMT lifted it, they did not include correct length drivelines, and the front shocks fitment was terrible. The brush guard is shaped for the headlights of the 73-79 grill. The rollbar leans way forward if not modified. The cab to bed spacing is still not to my satisfaction, and those horrible molded in grooves in the bed. Ohh, and the darn hood is warped just a little and every attempt to fix it now is making the hood scoop cutout lines on the underside show through. I knew of a few of these issues when I started it and fixed several of them. I have another one of these to build someday. Maybe I will fix the little things that bugged me about this one.
  6. Looking good Steve. I too really like the Revell Willys kit. I have only built one(modern tool) kit so far, but have at least four more in the stash of kits. I do want to try my hand at and old(opening door) kit again sometime though.
  7. Haven't seen one of these in years. One of my dad's co-workers used to drive one to work. Along with having a couple more out back for parts.
  8. I like to take a piece of 3/32" evergreen and glue it to my part in a spot that will not show when the part is installed on the model. It creates a tiny handle, then just cut it off before installing the part onto the model. For slightly larger parts, a piece of scrap sprue also works excellent and save the evergreen supply.
  9. Looking much better with the level ride height, even though I was hoping to see you keep the lower rear height and get the front lower. That height would make an excellent "driver".
  10. Looking much better, I would vote for 2mm lower in the front though. Rear height is perfect.
  11. Wow, that's one heck of a return. More than one per month is pretty good in my book.
  12. Joe, I am betting thast this thread is what you are looking for in regards to the front corrections. Ohh, I think I am against the majority on this kit, ?I like it gasser style. But that is from memories of this kit make in middle school in the early eighties.
  13. For some reason, I really like the off-road charger. Excellent work on all your builds.
  14. While I don't disagree with you guys about the snap kits, I think that the kid has already picked out a couple of kits that he is interested in and "just wants to build". Let him build a couple gluebombs, let him get a taste of the hobby without stressing him over perfect paint or minimal glue usage. He will be proud of them without paint and want to come back for more. If you the add stress and complication of paint, they go back to video games. Once they have enjoyed assembling a couple gluebombs, they will start asking about how to paint.
  15. Looking good. Curious, you are building a three window, but the box on your bench is for a five window? Did you re-scribe door lines to use the three window top?
  16. Wow, you sure made that booger of a kit look incredible. Will be referring to this for inspiration as I have at least three of these kits stashed away.
  17. I actually have a couple of original issue chopped tops (molded in black). I believe the chopped top was reissued once molded in white. I also have a couple of different resin bodies for a 36 sedan and 36 humpback sedan. I guess I need to start building these kits at a faster pace.
  18. Thanks for the kinds words.... Had a thought the other day about a Willy's. This kit came with the decals for the blue version of the car also. Soooo, what would a modern version of the SWC car look like? Thinking of using a Willy's street rod kit with the decals from the original blue gasser. Thoughts??
  19. Ya, it is an interesting design. Good news is that I have at least five more of them in the collection to get this wonderful top design perfected.
  20. I have never had a Tamiya mini to compare too. I this picture you can see that it is about 2.25" long. In the little bag on the left you may be able to see the drive axle with gears to make it 4wd, also in the bag are contacts for a battery. But there is not an electric motor in the kit, but a part number to get the right one maybe.
  21. Dave, those wheels came right out of the box(tires too). I am starting with this kit. AMT must have been working with a very worn out mold, this kit might have more flash and large mold lines than any kit I have ever opened. Still should be a fun build though.
  22. Started this a few weeks ago. Took a fair bit of work to make the "top" fit the body. Then I made an absolute mess of the paint work on the body, so it is currently taking a brake fluid bath. Fenders seem to have survived the paint issues so far. Lowered the suspension quite a bit. Plan to use the stock wide5 wheels, but the fronts got widened and the rears got widened and new hubs glued on the backside to fill the fenderwells better. They will use the kits "street rod" tires. Using the six carb intake. Not much of a picture for opening a build thread, but this is better than a body in brake fluid.
  23. Here is a couple of kits I had never seen before. Wife got me these, no idea what scale they are, but the one is a Landcruiser so I am happy. They are about two inches long. Daughter got me an airbrush too. Also got a gift certificate for the LHS from my in-laws.
  24. Had a "vision" for the tail lights, took a bit of time to actually get them completed though.
  25. Finally had a "vision" for tail lights on this old 34. The red lense is a piece of red sprue from my 41 Willy's build. The sprue was extremely close to 1/8" after i scrapped the mold line off of it. Well, 1/8" fits perfecetly in the chuck of my Dremel. So I used the Dremel like a lathe to make a couple of "bullet" shaped lights. I glued them to some 1/8" round evergreen styrene and made an angled bracket that is similar to the brackets I made for the headlights with a couple of speed holes in each. Still lacking any "vision" for an acceptable license bracket. Maybe someday.
