Anyone Getting Ready For Winter?
iamsuperdan replied to OldTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, but only for 6 months of the year! -
The Ford EcoBoost engines in the Mustang and F150 do this. BMW definitely doing it too, which is weird because the BMW engines sound great and don't need any enhancement. Fake wood interior pieces have always bothered me. And in recent years, we now have added fake carbon fibre and fake brushed aluminum to the pile. my first car was a 1978 Thunderbird. Fake wooden dash, fake spoke hubcaps, fake fender vents, vinyl roof. And my 16 year old self put a fake dual exhaust on it...split after the muffler and two tips.

Filter did a great job of this Harry Nillson classic too. Totally changed the vibe of the song.

Really dig this version of Battleship Chains.

This is dumb
iamsuperdan replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I could name a dozen manufacturers that currently build cars and SUVs with fake exhaust tips. Domestic, Asian, and European. Going on an electric would be no different. -

Personally, if I was going to electrify a car, I would want to open the hood and see something out of Star Trek or Star Wars. But if someone wants electrics and a more traditional look, then more power to them. -
Anyone Getting Ready For Winter?
iamsuperdan replied to OldTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll be fine up here in the Great White North. My garage is insulated, and now heated, and vented with a small paint booth set up, so i can paint all year long. It's just finding the time to devote. -
That's awesome! There's still a lot of old timers in the field that will give her a hard time because girls are weak, and girls can't do the heavy lifting, and girls just don't understand the mechanics of being a mechanic, and so on and so on. Conversely, all the girls I know who enter the field are tough enough and confident enough to put up with the BS from those old timers. I'm sure she'll be shutting them up soon enough! If I recall, the training programs for technicians in Canada are very different than they are in the US. Most of the major technical colleges here have fully accredited shop programs. I've had many friends that have been lured to the US to work for dealers because of the quality of training we get here. Maybe that's an option if she wants to travel.

Music is my biggest hobby. I still have every cassette i bought back in the day, and I still buy CDs all the time. When I order new vehicles, I make sure the CD player is added. I do have a record player, but records are honestly a PITA; with the cleaning, the storing, the care needed to listen and prevent skipping, changing sides, etc. I love physical copies of music. Being able to sit down, read the liner notes, look at the pics, all while listening to an album from start to finish. As the artists intended. I have a Spotify subscription ,and listen all the time, but prefer other mediums.

Made me think of this version of Hello. Which I like as well.

The Most Dangerous Car You've Ever Owned
iamsuperdan replied to David G.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Holy zombie thread! Anyway, depends on your definition of dangerous. I've had two. First was a 1990 Jeep YJ Islander. i didn't own it long, as it was a bad experience. The front seats don't recline. But the driver's seat decided to at one point. While driving, right in the middle of the seat back. So I essentially had no seat back for the rest of that day. It was carburated, and would stall out at random. City driving, highway driving, in traffic, anywhere and everywhere. Also discovered that the rear turn signals and the brake lights stopped working at some point after the safety was done. Traded that thing in on a 2005 TJ Sport. My good dangerous car was my 1993 VW Passat wagon. Had the VR6 and a 5-speed. And then I removed the AC and added a big turbo. Did some engine tuning and some other parts, did the exhaust, installed coilovers, larger brakes, etc. Awesome car. Ridiculously quick. And the top of the roof racks was lower than the bedside on a half ton pickup. An accident in this car would have meant ending up under something else. And I miss it still. -
Highway thru Hell
iamsuperdan replied to dieseldawg142's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
New season is under way. No new Mack yet. Jamie is still going on about how awesome old trucks are and how they get the job done and save him money. Then he goes to a job and the truck takes twice as long to do a job, or he has to call in a second old truck to assist. Then they show the other companies who roll up to a job in a new truck and crack out a solution in no time at all. So far, just like last season. Episode 1 was not really that dramatic or compelling. ?? Which begs the question...has HTH jumped the shark? And if so, when? -
Anybody interested in this?
iamsuperdan replied to GaryR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll admit, I didn't understand the ask either. And the pics aren't showing up for me. If Tom's interpretation above is correct, then it's not a bad idea at all. -
That entire album (Duran Duran - Thank You) is actually really solid. It's not really a cover per se, but if you head over to You Tube, look up the "shred" songs. This guy reworks videos. And it cracks me up.

Out of pure curiosity, I checked it out this morning. Great to see the kind words over there from some of you. Sarcasm mode off. -

Ugh. Knew this was coming after his family posted about his illness last week. Loved his work with Masters Of Reality.

Good idea with the silly putty. Will have to try that at some point.

I built this one a few years ago. Was the first one I tried my had at carpeting and seatbelts. Built it as a stock base model. Found that the ride height was crazy high. Have always wanted to go back and adjust. Might make that a winter project. i like the tuner idea.

Tamiya Evo 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition Conversion
iamsuperdan replied to lghtngyello03's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Dang that's looking good. What are you using for the red/amber turn signals and tail lights? That's biggest area I feel my builds let me down.
