The Grove Cruise is a big annual show here my area. Big poker run on Friday night, drive in movies, and of course the car show on Saturday. I think this has been one of the only shows so far this year that hasn't been rained out. 357 cars in attendance this year. Here are some pics, in some sort of order. Fords.

Turn them into bullet holes? Seeing the skills you have, I'm sure you'll be able to fix this.

1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird Rebuild
iamsuperdan replied to mrmike's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very nice! Some time ago I started rebuilding my Superbird. According to the note I left in the built model, I originally finished it in Feb 1988. One trip too many rolling off the shelf, and now I have a rebuilder. Happy to say my skills are much better than they were back then. Or maybe I just have more patience now. Looking forward to seeing yours done. -
More Civilised Debate On This Forum
iamsuperdan replied to Bugatti Fan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So believe it or not, the idea of a digital only magazine has come up in the admin forum. There is NOTHING definitie or decided, but I have broached the subject, and no one has said no. As for a pay to play model for the forum, I don't see it working. Those who pay will not only want more content for their contribution, but they'll want more say in how things are run. On the surface, that seems fair, but I can't help but think that this would lead to many problems. The more ideas that get floated, themore the staff and Gregg have to discuss. Keep listing your concerns, AND supply some potential solutions, and they will continue to be discussed and considered. -
Closer Than We Think!

"Normal tires" I don't know why, but this made me laugh. I too would like to see pics of the land train now. I love this kind of stuff. -
Destroyed models
iamsuperdan replied to truckabilly's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Holy moly. That is terrible. Talk about a project. Can you post some before pics? -
With rare exception, I almost exclusively use Tamiya paints; either jar or aerosol. Maybe once or twice I've used automotive paint, with no problems. This one was strange, as it was only the orange that had an issue.

Awesome! Don't forget Uncle Jesse's truck!

Yeah, I've been thinking about how to display the three when they're done. I also have a couple of the Yodel Plymouth Furys, so was thinking about painting one up like Det. Junkins' car. Then I'd have four Christine builds. Could easily get out of control, because in the book Dennis drives a '75 Duster, which I have in the stash for solely this reason. Buddy's Camaro in the book is a highly modified '76, so I could do that too.

Great work on all! Makes me want to bump the Cruising Van to the front of the stash queue.

1979 Subaru BRAT
iamsuperdan replied to Jordan White's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I've always had a soft spot for this kit. I built the original issue back in the 80s. I was 13 and did a crap job. Kinda want to find it again. Great colour choices! -
Really nice!

Nope. It's a Tamiya, so fit was perfect, with very little cleanup required on the parts. no flash, etc. It is a very simple kit, so is a nice quick build. Just used normal Tamiya primer and aerosol spray cans, room temp.

Modeling for fun.....again!
iamsuperdan replied to GaryR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Honestly? I don't care how others build. DO they obsess over every detail for utmost accuracy? DO they slap some paint on a body and call it a day? Doesn't matter. However a person builds, as long as they are enjoying it, then more power to them. Personally, I tried going for details. And it was such a time suck. Took so long to finish something, and trying top hyper detail a kit took all the fun out of it for me. So now I just build basically box stock. A couple of details here or there. i don't go crazy over the parts that won't be seen when on display. And if it's not perfect, I don't get too upset with myself anymore. I still try to improve with every build, but I'm not obsessive about it. And I'm having more fun with it. -
Soon. She's on the bench now.

Buddy Repperton is a first class jerk. Arnie would have a different name for him, but it would be censored. He had a cool car though! This is the Revell 2 in 1 kit. Went together really well, although the front end parts did need quite a bit of sanding and manipulating to make them fit. My one issue came to the taillights. The left one fell into the body after I finished it up and was taking pics. So i had to try and fish it out and resecure it. That was fun. And I just noticed while typing this that the mirror fell off the door at some point. Of course, that seems like something Buddy would not give a hoot about, so I'm not too concerned. Some online pics show the car as being a light metallic blue, but the car looked silver to me in the movie, but we never saw it in daylight, so I'm not sure. I like silver, so I went with it. Built it box stock, and added some flocking. Have to thank Bruce here for the donation of the correct wheels for the car! Once I get a moment, will have to display with Dennis Guilder's car. So that's two down. Now to do the star of the trio...

Have had this old kit for a while. Not my best work, but I'm reasonably happy with it. The paint fought me the whole way. I'm usually really good with masking and avoiding bleed through. Not this time. Luckily, I have enough paint that I was able to touch up a lot of the issues. Still not perfect, but will look fine on the shelf. it was also very strange. The white, yellow, and red laid down very nicely. The orange though...totally rough and bumpy. It's all Tamiya spray cans, all purchased at the same time. Same prep work for all, but the orange is a completely different texture. I think my biggest surprise is that the decals were still good. They needed a lot longer in the water to soften up and slide off the backing, but they worked. Anyway, nice kit, easy kit, good slump buster.

I used to have flat flesh. They I married a Ukranian girl with a mother who is old school Ukranian. Thanks to her kitchen, I'm no longer flat.

No obvious paint issues I can see. Looks pretty dang good!
