Chevy c1500
iamsuperdan replied to Jared Roach's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Excellent build! This has always been my fav generation of truck, from any manufacturer. My one complaint with the kits though, and this is in no way a criticism of your build, is the front grille. The molded one piece grille just never looks as realistic as the rest of the truck. Even ones finished as well as yours. I wonder if there's an aftermarket solution? Hmm... -
Cats like boxes. Even big ones.

My sis and her hubby have four black cats. And they are 100% the stereotype. Especially when it comes to pizza boxes. -

I'm willing to bet that's exactly what's going on. Mack either gave him a truck to use, or they gave him a smoking deal on a truck. Of course, Jamie will justify it by saying the he can't operate without a modern heavy wrecker; that the vintage stuff just won't handle the big wrecks, so he needed this one to keep up. Which I would think is totally true. Good looking truck. Wonder who gets to operate the new flagship? -

Bay window Doka. Very nice! -
In true early 90 fashion, it's slightly ridiculous...and 100% awesome.

Love the colour choice!

REVELL JEEP HONCHO
iamsuperdan replied to Bucky's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Has it started rusting yet? I think the 1:1 came from factory with rust bubbles already! I have the reissue in the stash, have always loved these J trucks. Looking forward to more progress! -

But how many chuggas before the choo choo does it make?? -
FOund a couple of racecars. The Alfa, just because I love touring cars, and the Toyota because it's one of those kits I built in my youth, and ended up getting damaged and tossed. And both were way cheaper than I expected to ever see them, which is a nice bonus. Especially the Toyota. The Alfa is new, the Toyota is old, but still factory bagged inside. And the decals appear to be useable.

Z06 Fresh off the drawing board
iamsuperdan replied to Perspect Scale Modelworks's topic in Model Cars
I really dig this idea. I remember a while ago seeing someone that did a couple of Mazdas or Toyotas or something in a similar style. And there's a guy that has done similar wrap on a 1:1 Acura NSX. Awesome job. -
I've only completed one Charger so far. This '68 is the first part of a themed set of three kits I'm working on. Had a major issue when completing this. Something dripped onto the passenger door, and that required a repaint, which didn't match perfectly, but kind of fits the theme.

Have loved these cars since I first read a Car & Driver article on it back in '86. My first exposure to a Pantera.

Wow. Do they run? With the right lighting, those would be indistinguishable from a real one. -
Notre Dame Cathedral destroyed by fire
iamsuperdan replied to SfanGoch's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I believe it's Ubisoft and their game Assassin's Creed. Somehow, it's this video game company that has the most detailed "blueprints" or schematics of Notre Dame. Rebuilding accurately will not be a problem. I don't see a problem with rebuilding using modern materials and building techniques. European churches have a history or fire, damage, rebuilds, remodels, whatever. However it is decided to rebuild, it will still be Notre Dame cathedral. Personally, I like the idea of rebuilding using modern composites and materials, and using the most advanced building techniques available. If they make the parts the public sees look like it always has, then does it really matter what we don't see? -
My fav Ferrari, in what is possibly my fav colour. Nice job!

Haven't had much bench time this month, so no progress on this one, other than a little bit of paint. -

Contrary to popular opinion, the rest of the world does not spend every waking hour thinking about the US. You're the one bringing up American politics. I'm talking about donations by the wealthy to something more important than a building. Using that logic, this whole thread should have been shut down the moment it was created. -

Where? There is no mention of politics anywhere near my comment. No countries mentioned, no specific people mentioned or alluded to, no governments mentioned. -

It kind of puts things into perspective. And shows just how easily rich people could help to solve world issues if they cared. -
Is it really that bad though? It's just paint and can be undone. Admitted, it's about 100 layers of paint and crap, but it can all be undone. And really, it's just a C5 Corvette. These things are dime a dozen and cheap to buy.

Did I read somewhere that almost half a billion dollars has been donated to assist with the rebuild? Wow. I don't know if I'm impressed by the generosity or saddened that this much money has gone towards a building that is insured and owned by an organization worth billions. A little of both, I think. -
Couple of evenings, a few Beck's, and less than $20CDN in materials, and I now have a paint rack. Instead of a 30 jar rack though, it's a 29 jar rack, as the wood split on the top row as I was drilling the last hole. Glued it back together and decided not to try again. Pretty happy with the results. Haven't decided if I'll bother putting a finish on it.

I think you've just described the British Touring Car Championship series. Basically stock shells, safety additions. Front drive, rear drive, all wheel drive. Hatchback, sedan, wagon. Working wipers, headlights, etc. Proper doors. Totally recognizable as the car they are based on, because they ARE the car they're based on. Currently my fav type of racing. http://www.btcc.net/

Definitely digging the Transit. Love those vans!
