  1. Are you referring to the medium duty GMC Topkick and Chev Kodiak? Depending on the generation, they used either a C/K cab or a full size van cab, plus a full fibreglass tilt front. I've seen these as motorhomes quite a bit.
  2. The Rabbit I have in the "stalled" pile also has the Clearly Scale 16V, plus a set of his Ronal wheels. I've got a bunch of Jeremy's parts for a few builds, and the quality has always been great. Looking forward to seeing this done. Love the colour choice.
  3. Heard this today. Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit...transposed into a major key instead of it's original minor key. I actually really like this!
  4. Kit is probably an early 90s issue. I don't think Tamiya would have done a reissue of this one, and if they did, it would be hard to tell because unlike the domestic kit manufacturers, box art doesn't change. I'll have a look and see if I can see a date on the box or instructions.
  5. Will having a drink help me understand the reference here?
  6. Check the Finished builds over in light trucks. Just before the holidays I posted my finished Astro build.
  7. A couple of years ago at my company's annual awards night, I gave one of my guys a certificate for outstanding acheivement in the field of excellence. Made it look very official, signed it, framed it, and he hung it on his office wall. Says a lot, while saying absolutely nothing.
  8. I definitely have a colour picked out, and have bought the paint already. keeping that a surprise for now. I don't typically follow instructions when it comes to paint. I'll hit up the internet and will find as many pics as possible of my subject, then go from there. And there will be very little chrome on this one! Thanks!
  9. I've actually never seen the magazine in person. Maybe switching to a purely digital format would be a good way to cut back on costs and keep everything running smoothly. I have a couple of suibscriptions to other magazines that are purely digital. And if there are articles you want hard copies of, they are printable. Just a thought.
  10. Here's my build thread. Started this one last night.
  11. FOr those unaware, there's a Radwood 2018 community build going on now. www.radwood.com "Radwood is a celebration of '80s and '90s automotive lifestyle. The car show that blends period correct dress with automotive awesomeness. A period correct event for cars, trucks, and bikes from 1980-1999 that captures the essence of a bodacious era. Wear your best '80s and '90s clothing and bring your rollerblades or BMX bike, because it's going to get RAD!" In view of that, I've started my build! My base is the Tamiya Mercedes-Benz AMG 500SL. Not straying too far from box stock, but will be painted and detailed in a totally tubular 80s worthy finish, and will have some period correct adds. The kit arrived already started, inthat the body has been sanded, misted, then sanded again. In looking at it, I'm not sure I need to do much more to the body. I can tell you, the finished product will not be blue. The only assembly I've done so far is to get a start on the engine. Lots of painting though, getting pieces pre-painted and ready for assembly. Soundtrack while working on this last night was a theme appropriate Duran Duran "mixtape" I made on Spotify. Here's the link, if you're opn Spotify and so inclined.
  12. I'll echo what others have said. Nice looking build, and I really like the colour choice.
  13. We had an LHS that was about a two minute drive from my office here. I loved it, as he had a decent selection, and would stock supplies when asked. And he shut down in the summer. In speaking with the owner he said it was all because ofthe internet. His store specialized in RC. Was the bulk of his business. The problem is, guys would ocme in to his store, pick the experts' brains about RC stuff, then go online and order. And the kicker was that when all their parts would arrive, they'd go back in to the store and ask for guidance on assembly. So he implemented a diagnostic charge. And then of course the RC guys complained and said that wasn;t how you treat customers. His response, "you're not customers." Finally, he had enough and packed it in. Now if I want to hit up a hobby store, I need to drive across the city in a minimum hour long return trip. There's really only one decent store left here in Edmonton. A city of well over a million peoplke, and only one hobby store. Sad.
  14. The best part of The Sun is page 3. I didn't see what it said about those who drink water and/or tea. Insert joke about being boring here. I'm not really an alcohol drinker anymore.
  15. I really like the direction you went here. The Relic/patina look is big now!
  16. If it helps, -37 celcius is about -34 farenheit. A -48 celcius windchill will be about -54 farenheit! To be fair, the last couple of winters have been really mild. It didn't break -20 (-4 F) at all, and we've had vbery little snow. And this winter, we've had very little snow, and only a week of really cold temps. For those unaccustomed to these temps, it would definitely be a shock. I remember a trip I took to Birmingham a few years ago when I was with Porsche. I left -40 weather and landed in Birmingham in 0 degree weather. I thought it was great but those from Texas, Arizona, and Florida were freaking out over how cold it was.
  17. On New Years Eve, it was -37 plus windchill. So it felt like -48. Today, driving into work, it's -1. You have to love flip flopping weather. I just wish we had some snow. Having said that, the Christmas season is done, so bring on summer!
  18. Unrelated, but here's an interesting Mack I found in the same batch of pics. And of course, I had to climb it. More pics to follow of my dad's Matador.
  19. Was going through old photo albums at my parents' place over the holidays, and stumbled across these. Back in summer of 1983 or so, Bandag tires sent the Tyrone Malone trucks out on tour. And they hit an Edmonton Bandag dealer. As a kit who was wild about trucks, I made my parents take me. I may be wrong on the year, but it's probably pretty close. I know there are more pics somewhere, believe it or not they're probably slides. So once I find those, I'll get them scanned and posted. In the meantime, here are some pics of the Super Boss, Mama Truck (I think), some kind of Corvette Highway Patrol, and an interesting red/white truck. This one has dual single sleeper units instead of one big one. Papa Truck is in the background of one of the pics. Also note behind the Corvette at the souvenir stand. AMT Hobby Kits for sale. My sis is in one of the pics, and I'm the goof in the blue ballcap.
  20. This is one of my "stalled" kits. Looking forward to seeing a finished one!
  21. That is a darn good idea. Methinks I need to head to Ikea.
  22. I'm in the same boat. Freezing temps means no spraying in the unheated garage. So it's time to start more kits.I like the scratch canopy, need to try one of those for myself.
  23. Cool! I love these oddball kits.
  24. Slowly but surely. Front suspension is pretty much done. Next up, the dreaded, yet strangely desired torsion bar rear suspension. Once the frame, suspension, and other components are done, I'll be spraying it black. That might be a challenge though, as it's currently -15, and my garage is insulated but not heated, so it's too cold to spray. Will have to coordinate with my dad, who has a heated garage and a spray booth.
