Highway thru Hell
iamsuperdan replied to dieseldawg142's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Finally got around to watching last week's season finale. I thought it was amusing that everytime Jamie went to show someone the old Mighty Mo, that person had a massive shop and a fleet of brand new high tech wreckers and rotators! Random guy, three rotators, plus other new equipment, then pan to Jamie. Worn out looking Kenworth Aeordyne with chipped and missing paint, and a restored 40 year old truck on the trailer. Everytime they showed a truck from the past in that Holmes history lesson, i imagined it painted red, on the Coq. "Yeah, she's a 1916 Cadillac with a Holmes body, and can't tow much more than a smart car, but she's a good old truck with history." I wonder how Jamie's fleet would look today if he hadn't tried the Alberta experiment a couple of years ago. -

Yeah, ithought about buying one of those and doing some body panel swaps. But I'm going to try my hand at body mods first. -

Yeah...those door frames. I have two options I was thinking of. Option 1: just experimenting with styrene and seeing if it will look right. Option 2: leaving it alone, and just going with something that is mostly accurate. I'll be starting with Option 1, then depending on those results, will move on to Option 2. -
Dodge Monaco to Plymouth Fury parts?
iamsuperdan replied to iamsuperdan's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The Ebay set of grille and headlight upgrades arrived today. Pretty good. Only took a couple of weeks to get to Canada from Portugal! Quality looks pretty good. I like that the grille has a big tab to hang on to. Should make it easier to hold while trying to paint and detail. I guess I should start trying to build this thing! -
PLEEEEEEEZ! Just go back to Flyoverlandia!

They've discussed SantaCon on Howard Stern, and it sounds awful and ridiculous to me. Almost as bad as Wing Bowl. -
I got a matched set. Bye, bye gas station.

For the longest time, I thought electric cars or hybrids were ridiculous. I mean, look at a Prius. Yes, it's fuel efficient, but they started with a car already fuel efficient, like a Corolla, and made it even more efficient. But for $10k more. Why not focus the energy (see what I did there) on things that need it...like trucks and SUVs. And for the most part I still feel that way. However, I changed my opinion a couple of years ago. My company had a couple of Chevrolet Volts, and I spent a month with one. And if I was buying a small car to commute in, I'd totally go for one. So I picked the car up and the fuel tank was empty. Great. I filled it up, cost be about $20CDN. Don't even get me started on the price of fuel around here. My daily commute is about 70km return, include a little running around at lunch time and whatnot. The Volt's electric range is 60-70km. On most days, I could drive to work and get home without the gas engine kicking in. We could go and bomb around o nthe weekend, and do 3/4 of our driving in pure electric. And this was in summer, with the AC on. Also, I don;t believe in hyper-miling. I drove that car like I would drive a normal car. No babying the gas pedal, no coasting up to stop lights, driving at 120kmh on the highway, and not keeping it at 95kmh. When I was done, about 3-4 weeks later, I filled the tank, and put in only $3. And there was not a perceptible shift on my home power bill. And if I recall, I mentioned this in another thread a couple of months back, and people lost their collective minds saying that was impossible. All I can tell you is that in looking at our end of month piower bills from June through September, the month of Volt was in line with the other months. Overall, it was comfortable, fast, fun to drive, was roomy enough for the family, could hold stuff, and I thought it was a good looking car. As soon as a decent hybrid/electric powertrain is available in a truck/SUV that fits our lifestyle, I'm in. And I'd love to outfit the house with solar. The idea of going off-grid totally appeals to me. -
Well, can't say I've seen one of these posted here before. This is Aoshima's Chevrolet Astro. Minivan. Loser Cruiser. What moms drove before SUVs exploded in popularity. I wanted a build I could crack out quickly and get out of a bit of a build slump. Mission accomplished. I went box stock, in a colour suitable for a minivan. Tamiya's TS75 Champagne Gold. It turned out okay. I can tell it was a little rushed, but it looks pretty good on the shelf. I'm just happy I finished something!

Started this one recently. This is MPC's Blazer reissue snapper, the Search & Rescue Blazer. I've always preferred the updated look of the 80-s versions, so I'm ditching the round headlights, and updating this to look like an early 80s verion. First step was to pick up a resin grille. FOund this on EBay. I wish I could remember the seller and give him his credit, because it's a nicely cast piece. Next up was to sand off the 70s emblems, flatten the hood details, and trim the grille opening. I still need to reshape the front fenders and relocate the turn indicators. Then I'll be filling in the sunroof. I want the look of the base models, so I'm looking for a correct set of hubcaps. I did find a set of steel wheels from Scenes Unlimited, but the hubcaps are the wrong vintage. Beautifully cast pieces though, so I'm sure I'll find a home for these somewhere. If anyone knows where to source a set of these in 1/25, I'd love to know about it! Tires. I had again, brought in some pieces from Scenes Unlimited, as I thought the kit tires were too big. In looking at everything though, i think I may go with the kit tires, as the SU tires seema little skinny. Once I have everything together, I'll mock it up to see. I have a theme planned for this build, so as soon as the body mods are done, I'll hit it with paint, and the look will really start to take shape.

You've nailed the interior! Looks great! -
For the record, i read it, found it interesting, had nothing of note to add as a comment.

PM sent. Thanks!

I just tried creating a build thread and got the 404 error message. Replying to posts seems to work fine, but creating new ones isn't working for me right now.

It also irks me that as I type this, we have 301 pages of annoyances and only 135 pages on positive stuff.

Our services went out on Tuesday night. Lost cable, internet, and phone due to a system failure by our provider. Knocked out half our town. Didn't bother me, as I just went and read my book. But based on the reactions of the rest of the household, you'd think the apocalypse had begun. It would have been funny had I not been held responsible for everything, and getting everything back up and running ASAP. Umm...the whole Shaw system is down, it's not an issue with our stuff. "Well fix it!" Good grief.

After checking out the website, I'm even more excited about this car show. I want to attend! I'm a huge fan of the 80s. As ridiculous and superficial as it was, and as crappy as the cars were, I love it. Radwood is a celebration of '80s and '90s automotive lifestyle. The car show that blends period correct dress with automotive awesomeness. A period correct event for cars, trucks, and bikes from 1980-1999 that captures the essence of a bodacious era. Wear your best '80s and '90s clothing and bring your rollerblades or BMX bike, because it's going to get RAD!

Heck yeah! I'm in for sure on this one!

This arrived yesterday. Found on EBay. New and still in the plastic wrap, and about 1/3 of what I normally see these go for! I now have three of these, plus a couple of the Italeri reissue. Still need to find the red version though.

St Albert Dodge is part of the same auto group as Sherwood Dodge, who have a pretty big selection of classic Mopar stuff, and other classics, for sale. https://www.sherwooddodge.ca/used-inventory/index.htm?year=1880-1980&sortBy=year+asc& -
What did you see on the road today?

I'm not sure if it's awesome, ridiculous, or a bit of both, but one of my coworkers drives this. Need to find out who. -

Should check the VIN, see if it's one of these. https://www.swinger340specials.ca/ And if so, buy it! -

Very cool. I have the Pyro 1/24 motorized Beetle. kit is complete, including motor. Was my father in law's, found among his comic and magazine collection after he passed, along with a pile of vintage WW2 plane kits. Will build it one day. -
What would YOU like to see as a model
iamsuperdan replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess they look at licensing as a cost. And at the end of the day, why would they pay to produce promo models, when eventually they'll find a company to pay them ridiculous amounts of money to do it for them! -

Interesting. I didn';t realize that Crosstown were that into the performance stuff. They're still around, about 5 minutes from me, and they're just a run of the mill bland Chrysler dealer now. -

You nailed it! FCA is notorious in the industry for their rules and demands when it comes to licensing. Frustrates the dealers, as diecasts of older product are huge, and demand for new diecast is massive. But it's not happening. -

iamsuperdan replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The kits I would want to see are not neccessarily ones that the rest of the modelling world would purchase! 1968 Fury III convertible. - we had one of these when I was in high school. Was one of the cars I learned to drive in. 1978 Ford Thunderbird. My first car. Have always wanted a kit of this, but the only one i've ever seen is an awful 1/32 Lindberg kit. Late 70s Ford boat. I love these big old ugly things! Pic is an LTD II, but any late 70s boat would be great. Country Squire, LTD, Caprice, Fury, whatever. It's all good! Late 70s Dodge trucks. Especially in Power Wagon form! Modern pickups. we don;t need more late 60s Fords or GMs. Let's see something built in the last five years! New Ram trucks, new GMC/Chev trucks. Anything! Well...anything but Ford. Ha! Modern SUV. Again, modern vehicles. I'm tired of seeing 60s muscle cars, 50s cars, hot rods, and junky reissues. I want modern vehicles. And what I think would actually be a sure fire hit, a chassis cab. In this case, 2018 Ram 5500. Imagine how great that would be to have an actuall proper chassis cab we could build on! A couple of other things: 2013+ Dodge Challenger - something with the current interior, especially in Hellcat or Hellcat Widebody form! Semi trucks build after 1980. Again, vintage trucks are only slightly interesting, and have been done to death. Let's see some more modern era trucks. Again, I know these wouldn't be the most popular choices, so I wouldn't realistically expect any of these to go into production, but I can dream.
