I have Somewhere In Time in pretty much permanent rotation in the truck! And in my stash, I have the Revell 747 and a set of aftermarket Ed Force 1 decals. Got that together right before revell actually issued their Ed Force 1 kit! I need to bump this up the queue.

On a related note, it's rare that I ever have to ride my dinosaur over to the fax machine here. It seems the only people still using faxes are registries agents and insurance people. They seem to want everything faxed. And they never understand the dinosaur crack.

What do you drive?
iamsuperdan replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I'm not driving it yet, but i did get this confirmation today. 2019 Ram 1500 Limited, should be here in a couple of months, and will look like this. -
Trying to remove the politics out of the news release. The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists has moved the Doomsday Clock ahead by 30 seconds — to 11:58 p.m. — the symbolic time of civilization’s destruction. “It is with considerable concern that we set the Doomsday Clock, as of today,” Rachel Bronson, president and CEO of the organization, said during a news conference. “It is two minutes to midnight.” The clock, first used in 1947, is a metaphor meant to measure how close we are to destroying the world. In an uncharacteristic move, the scientists moved the clock by 30 seconds in 2017, to 2½ minutes to midnight. Typically, the clock is moved by the minute. The bulletin said at the time: “The probability of global catastrophe is very high, and the actions needed to reduce the risks of disaster must be taken very soon.” Anyway, here's some Iron Maiden, because everyone can use a little Iron Maiden in their day.

Original Bullitt Mustang Rediscovered
iamsuperdan replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's actually a pretty faxcinating story. The shell fell of a trailer and broke a mechanic's leg. The engine & transmission were removed and used in another car, which crashed and killed the driver. The wheels were removed, and the car those were put on crashed. A couple of times people tried to steal it, and those people were injured "by the car." A garage the shell was stored in caught fire. It burned down, but the shell was undamaged. It fell of a display and broke someone's hip. A trasnport truck carrying it crashed, and the driver was subsequently crushed when the car fell off the trailer. It later fell of another truck while being transported. The curse is real? Hmm... -
Favorite Obscure or Discovered Music Album
iamsuperdan replied to afx's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
So as you've probably seen in the other thread, Dolores O'Riordan from The Cranberries died last week. She was in London to work on a cover of Zombie by the band Bad Wolves. Bad Wolves are made up of members from some other bands, like Devildriver and God Forbid. Anyway, they invited Dolores down to give her two cents and possibly contribute. She was totally into it, hence coming to London. And of course, she never made it to the studio. Bad Wolves had already finished it, and instead of scrapping it, they released it as a tribute. I like their take on it. -

I'm making license plates for all of my builds. Found an imagine and a font, then played with sizing. Now I make a new plate for everything I do. The "garage" is some sort of sci-fi hangar. It has LED lights, and is fully expandable if I buy more. At some point, I'm going to try painting and weathering it. I still have the box in my actual garage, I'll get some details for you if you're interested. -
I'll shoot you a PM. The one in the pic is a Double Cab, not a crew. The only way we'd get anywhere near $50k is if we starting adding a LOT of expensive accessories!

Any body watching Barrett-Jackson ?
iamsuperdan replied to D. Battista's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I love it all, but personally, I'd want to go on the first night or two; Wednesday or whatever. Those cars are still nice, but have reasonable prices. Cars I wouldn't be afraid to take out for a cruise. I've seen a couple of BJ cars. One was immaculate, one was a great 20ft car, and needed a lot of work to get it right.. -
GM and Chevy Quality
iamsuperdan replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know that there's one manufacturer today building something designed to last several hundred thousand miles. And it's been a long time sine that happened. I think the 80s is when we first started to see the trend of "disposable" cars. Think about the numbers of K-cars, the original Dodge caravan, the Ford Tempos and Ford Escorts that were built. Now when was the last time you saw one on the road? Go even newer. When was last time you saw a Dodge Neon? Or Pontiac Sunbirds? Chev Lumina? The issue for me, is that society doesn't seem to care. People are so used to replacing cars often, so they don't care about long term. Everyone seems to want the latest and greatest, so replace every 3 or 4 years, or whenever the warranty runs out. The thing is, when maintained, vehicles can go a long time. My '93 Jeep Cherokee went 440,000km with no breakdowns or issues before I retired it. The previous car was an 87 Mazda 626. Again, over 400,000km before I replaced it with the Jeep. Wifey's Volvo XC90 is an older one, currently with 230,000km, and we've never had to do anything but normal maintenance. -
GM and Chevy Quality
iamsuperdan replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know about all these polls and surveys and whatnot, but from experience, I can tell you this. GM do not have a quality issue at all. Period. The company I work for has a fleet of over 10,000 vehicles across Canada. These lease, rental, or sales vehicles work in every possible industry and application in Canada, in every province, including Nunavut. The fleet is pretty close to being an even split of GM, Ford, and FCA product, with a healthy sprinkling of imports. We replace about a third of that fleet every year. The imports and GM are far and away the most reliable vehicles in our fleet. Every year we analyze our maintenance costs and downtime over the course of the previous 12 month period. This way, when ordering the next year's replacements we can choose wisely. The number of GM and Ram trucks has been steadily increasing over the past few years. GM more than any other.I leave you to infer which brand we're ordering less. -
Anybody catch tonight's coverage of Barrett Jackson?
iamsuperdan replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I normally don;t care for woodys, but there was a black custom Buick woody ...that gave me one. Junk picture, but the only one I've seen so far. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1933-BUICK-SERIES-50-CUSTOM-WOODY-213384 -
Sacrilege or really cool? Hmmmmm...
iamsuperdan replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No one has ever gotten anything as right as Singer did. Those cars are just perfection in every way. Top three in my "lottery list" of cars I'll be buying once my numbers come in! -

The very first Porsche was an all wheel drive electric car! -
Yeah, I mentioned earlier that someone here had one offered up. I should have grabbed it.
-
THe red totally works. I simply MUST find one of these kits.

iamsuperdan replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was just going to post that! Is it sacrilege to take an old 32 Ford or something, and chop the top and turn it into a rod? Is it sacrilege to take a late 60s Chev truck and put it on a custom frame with full air ride and add a 700hp monster engine? THis e-Porsche falls intothe exact same category. -
Great to know! I've been avoiding the race kits completely. THanks!
-
Whoa! Really digging this one!
-
Very cool.

I've wanted this kit for a while now. Great colour choice. Following for sure!
