  1. It was mentioned above that it seems like the hobby is in dire straits. I'd agree. Building plastic models is a dying hobby, at least in North America. Let's face it, WE are the face of the hobby. How many people here are 60+? And how many are between the ages of 40-60? And how many are less than 30? (Actually, this would be an interesting poll) Young people are not getting in to the hobby. And if the manufacturers can't figure out how to bring in a new generation of builders, it's done. I've said it before too. the kits being released will appease the older people already in the hobby, but reissues of cars from the 50s and 60s will not bring in a new generation. I suspect this is why the hobby is bigger in asia or europe. The builders there produce a lot more kits of modern vehicles. Something the NA manufacturers just aren't doing.
  2. Post this in that thread about rat rods and people will lose their minds. An entire magazine about hobbled together junk! lolz I think it's neat.
  3. Experts, I need your help! What is the eaiest way to decant some paint out of an aerosol spray can? I have some trim/detail work I need to paint to match a body, but I can't mask it. That means I need to carefully brush it on. How can I easily get the paint out of the spray can and into a tray or small container? Thanks! Dan
  4. It's raining. I love the rain. Wish I was out camping/hiking in it though.
  5. I used to play RR3 on the ipad, got pretty good at it too. I've picked up a couple of Forza games for my boy's XBox One, but I just don't have the time to devote to get any good at it. But I play on occasion, and enjoy it. Ultimately, I'd rather be at the bench playing with plastic, playing my guitars, or being outdoors doing anything.
  6. Wow. Just wow. First I was amazed at the body, weathering is just bang on. Then the interior pics. The seats actually look like soft vinyl. Very, very impressive work. You've nailed the detail work so perfectly that I'm expecting Jenny to pick up if I call the number.
  7. I almost typed that this kit is really cartoon-y...and then I remember what I was commenting on. I think I'd agree with the masses, it is not the best Batmobile by far, but it's an interesting kit. And it looks to me like you're doing a great job on this one so far. I think it would be great if you built every variation. Either the common ones... Or if you wanted to get crazy ambitious...
  8. For the stance I want, I think I'm going to need to do some frame cutting. Might try scratch building one. The plan is to also steal the susension from the BMW kit. No one ever sees the chassis, so although I will finish it properly, I'm not overly concerned about lack of detail or accuracy. Still, it will be finished properly, and not just cobbled together.
  9. I love it! Porsche have always been my fav brand.
  10. Stepping a little out of my comfort zone on this one, as I don't do much scratch building. This one is starting life as the early 90s Revell Hot Rod Chevy Street Pickup kit. As the theme for this year's Cannonball Build is "inline engines" that V8 had to go, so that's now in the parts box. I had an old Tamiya BMW 635csi kit that has been half built since the mid-90s. Parts have gone missing, it's been neglected. Butit has a fantastic BMW M engine. A high horsepower, high revving inline-6 powerhouse that will be perfect for this one! Wait...are those snails? Nope. I ordered up a turbo through Shapeways. Will figure out some plumbing and make that fit there too. Also need to mock up a intercooler. Did some mocking up the other night. Here's a stack of some of the parts that may or may not be going on this one. First thing's first, that sunroof has to go. Filled it with styrene, then some Tamiya filler. The overall goal will have this one sitting low, and running a Euro-vibe. Sort of. We'll see if my skills match my vision.
  11. Very, very cool. Now I want to steampunk something.
  12. I've actually considered one of his van builds. I think it might have been a Dodge van that I wanted to find, and his was the only one out there. I briefly thought of buying one of his builds, dropping it in the pruple pond, and doing a complete rebuild. But then I decided I have enough projects. I'm not going to knock the guy though. He builds stuff, he puts it up for sale, and people buy it. He is making money building models. Can't fault a guy for that!
  13. Maybe the 1500 Limited I have incoming will be better for you. Less buttons, bigger screen! The stubby box isn't for everyone, butit's enough for most. And that's why you can buy trucks from any manufacturer with everything from 5.5ft boxes to 6.5ft shortboxes to 8ft longboxes, with three different cab configurations, four different weight classes, and a plethora of equipment and engine options. If a person can't build a truck to the spec they want, I'd be surprised.
  14. Wow. Some of you are done, and I only just opened the box to think about my build! So anyway, here we go. Starting with this Revell kit of a 70s Chev square body. Most of the "custom" piece will be going in to the parts bin., as I have my own ideas of custom. The engine is from an old Tamiya BMW M635csi kit I started many, many years ago. A lot of parts have been lost to time, so I figured this truck is as good a place as any for the inline-6 M engine. Additional power will be coming from a turbocharger, sourced through TDRinnovations on Shapeways. I'll be scratchbuilding an intercooler and the plumbing to go with it. Wheels are some Fujimi 18" BBS. There will be numerous adds and details. I hope. Not sure on the colour yet.
  15. Your attention to detail is stunning. Most impressive!
  16. Well, I see everyone else is getting a thread started, even if there is nothing to report. So mine starts with this White Western Star. Which I believe is pretty much the same as a Western Star 4800? Well, even if it isn't exact, it's close enough for what I want to do here. I haven't picked the trailer kit yet, but it will be a box trailer. I have however picked a theme. I'm not giving anything away yet.
  17. Wow. Your work is amazing. I love these Euro tractors. Keep them coming!
  18. I get the arguments about vehicles and character. Older cars and trucks have it, very few new vehicles do. But here's the thing; consumers demand certain things these days, and designers need to make that fit and work with whatever they're designing, both interior and exterior. You're the designer, now the company board comes to you and says "design this truck" and you get a list of 10000 features, and directions to make it look tough but luxurious, classic, but futuristic. It needs to be big, but can't look big. It needs to conquer Moab, but needs to be at home on Rodeo Drive. It needs to fit the lineup, but can't be derivative. You have a month for the preliminary mockup. Go.
  19. Saw this driving home last night. Couldn't get any better pics. Appears to be some sort of Kenworth race truck. There were definitely some big chrome turbos on it. Thought I got a pic of the team name on the door.
  20. Although not my style, I enjoy reading about these crazy old show cars, and what happens to them. This one led quite the life!
  21. You're pretty close. I just went to the US site, and it spec'd out at $56810, and wouldn't let me add both bucket seats and navigation. Nav should add $795, so a total of $57605 US. Using today's exchange rate, that's $77047 CDN. In the current model 2018s, I could lease out a 2wd quad cab half ton with no options for just under $25k CDN. The 2019 will be about $3-4k more. It's just how it is these days.
  22. Meh, 5'7" worth of bed is enough to satisfy 90% of the half ton buying public. And for those that want 8" boxes, crank windows, and only need an am/fm radio, then those are still available.
  23. That's the downside with this truck. Much like when Ford did their redesign in 2015, Ram has jacked the price. Now, there is a lot of added tech in this truck, more features, more use of aluminum and composites, etc. Consumers demand more and more, so the prices have to go up. Combine that with the usual 1-2% increase everyone adds every year, and you're left with a pricey truck. This truck has an MSRP of $74965 CDN, and it is NOT fully loaded. Even with the fleet concessions I can utilize, I'd still be putting a cap cost on this truck of about $58-59k. Even the most basic models will see an increase of about $5k over last year. And I guarantee that when the new GMC/Chev trucks atart arriving this fall, it will be the same story. Ahh well, it's still an awesome truck.
  24. We got our first one in today. 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 4X4. Crewcab with the 5'7" box, nicely loaded, but not fully loaded. The learning curve on this one is pretty steep. Lots of new tech to figure out. And need to find all the new buttons and switches. The drive is amazing. So smooth, and it feels like it has way more power. My personal one is on a railcar, about two weeks away now.
  25. Easy. 1992 Porsche 964 RS in Maritime Blue Or Rubystone Red.
