MB Actros MP2, MP3 Lowliner
iamsuperdan replied to Hermann Kersten's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I can't decide which is better; the realistic builds or the realistic photos! Excellent builds, and your photo skills are fantastic! -
Has anyone built the Ghost of General Lee kit? I have that one in the stash, haven't touched it yet.
-
The only way this could be better is if it was a wagon! Excellent build!

I think the idea of building a replica of a car you know. Watching. If you're looking for inspiration in the notchback, a goood friend of mine has this one. Now supercharged, and very not stock. I'm not a Mustang guy myself, but there's something cool about this one.

RE: Oil discussion, renewable resource. Devil' advocate. Would it be stirring it up too much to argue that oil IS a renewable resource? That oIl and gas are a naturally occurring phenomenon, the earth just keeps on producing it. And that we're in no danger of ever running out? I'n not saying I believe it, but google that theory. It's real, and there are may real scientists that are on board. I find the Indra fascinating. Would be great, because we'll need all of that oil and gas to produce enough electricity to power the grid needed to sustain electric cars. I brought that up in another thread recently. But anyway, back to the discussion. I don't think it's been brought up yet, but FCA already did this car purge from their lineup. The only cars they have left across all brands are the Charger/Challenger/300, the Alfa Guilia, and the Fiat 500. Everything else was dumped a couple of years ago. So this whole Ford thing is really no big surprise when you think about it.

Spent almost the entire weekend outside. Feels good to have the nice weather finally back, and to get the short and flipflops back on!. Didn't get any bench time in, but that's okay every now and then.

hasegawa vs tamiya
iamsuperdan replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Personally, I think you can't lose either way. I've always found the quality of the Japanese brands to be far superior to everything else. Having said that, Tamiya over Hasegawa. More detail, more parts, more accuracy. -
I've done a couple of kits, but I mainly buy cheap guitars on EBay, or Kijiji, or at garage sales, or wherever, then bring them back to life. Strip them to the wood, repair the body, repaint, new hardware and electronics, refret if necessary, etc. I like to refer to it as guitar restomodding! I do it mainly for my own stuff, but I've done a couple of consignments for friends and referrals. On the bench right now are a late 80s BC Rich ST-III, an early 90s BC Rich ST Rave, late 80s BC Rich Warlock, mid-90s Squier Stagemaster, and a headless than I'm building from scratch, modeled after a Steinberger.

I'll be grabbing one of these for sure. On a related note, does anyone want a giant Coke decal sheet? I'll have one available in June/July! -
Great Dane Extendable Flatbed

Cool! I built one of these when I was a kid. -
That truck is perfect for 90% of the truck driving population. Most people that get trucks essentially want a car with a big trunk. They're not towing, they're not hauling heavy loads all the time. Most people want a carlike interior, and room for their mountain bikes, or supplies for doing yardwork, or trips to Ikea, or whatever. I know so many people with trucks that don't use them as trucks. And in my line of work, I lease a ton of trucks to people that never use their trucks as intended. Whenever I get a half ton, I always order the stubby 5.5ft box, as my lifestyle doesn't require something bigger. Yes, right now I'm driving a 3/4 ton Power Wagon, but other than the towing, I really don't need a truck this big. PS. 2018 Ram Power Wagon with 16000km for sale. Inquire within.

Nice and clean. And I like that you went with something other than black!

I have a Monogram 'bird I'm restoring/rebuilding now. Love these old winged warriors. Those wheels are so much better than the Monogram supplied ones. Looking forward to seeing where you take this!

It is! Same truck, with different engines and some tech added to the interior. Otherwise, we're getting five year old truck. Ford ahs done that before. The Crown Vic was discontinued for the masses, but was available as the police interceptor only for a few years. Maybe they'll do that again with the Taurus? As I said, and you said, the SUV Interceptor is popular, and if Ford are really looking to cut costs, then they should go purely SUV for the police vehicles.

I was finally able to get into the garage and clear the detritus of winter off of the workbench. I can build again! Somewhere not the kitchen table! i don't have to pack up every day when I'm done!

Completely ridiculous. I love it!

Nicely done!

So here's the actual press release, attached here in pdf if you want to read it. And the relevant fun part. So from what I'm reading, even the Focus will be replaced with this new Focus Active crossover, whatever that is. I get it, but it still surprsies me to see them kill off the Fusion, especially when they recently announced the new 2019 changes and revamp of the car. And with all the lack of apparent profitability, I find it hard to believe that the Mustang is any better than the Focus. Really? Are Mustang sales vs the cost to produce and market really that profitable? Compared to the Focus? I find that odd. If anything, I would think the Mustang would be on the chopping block. Personally, I'm glad Ford is having a problem and needs to restructure. FRom my business point of view, Ford are a serious pain to deal with. Their entire fleet operation, allocation procedures...everything is far more difficult and convoluted than any other manufacturer I deal with. It's gotten to the point where I will not recommend a Ford product or quote a Ford product at all unelss I have a sepcific request from a client. It's just too much work for a vehicle that can be replaced by pretty much anything else on the market. There is nothing uniques or special. Combine that with some awful experiences of warranty and repair, and that seals the deal for me. 2017 F350 Platinum, two warranty issues in first 7500km. 2015 F150 Platinum, 4 warranty issues and two tows in the first 4500km, 2012 F250 XLT, two warranty issues, 2010 F150 King Ranch, three warranty issues, two tows in the first 5000km. Warranty issues included, rear diff failure, transmission failure, tailgate microswitch stopped working, rendering tailgate unuseable, door lock failuire, front upper door hinge not attached to the truck, instrument cluster failure, turbo failure, ongoing ABS warning lights. 2017 F150 XLT Sport, over $800 CDN to repair a door ding from a shopping cart. Gotta love that aluminum body. By comparison, I've had light duty and heavy duty trucks from all four of the other manufacturers, plus a couple of SUVs, probably 20 vehicles total, and compined those had no warranty issues or trips to the dealer. Won't sadden me at all to see Ford have to restructure, or disappear entirely. 1q18-financials.pdf

Sorry, Not in my book
iamsuperdan replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was sort of one off those guys. I' m not a fan of bags, so in the 93 Passat wagon I had, I put in coilovers and dialled them right down. Not a single low as possible, but pretty low. Had to change the oil pump and oil pan to make it work. Front crossmember was still only about 4 inches off the ground. If that. Had to be careful around speed bumps, manhole covers, and entrances too parking lots. The car was so low that the roof racks were still lower than the top of the bed on a half ton truck. Many would say it was junk. Usually the Mustang and Corvette crowd. And then my wagon would blow them away. Ahh...good times. -
Where did you guys read this? Seeing at how well the Fusion sells, I'd be surprised to see that go away. And the Taurus may stick around, purely because of the Interceptor sedan. Having said that, ALL police departments around here are running the Interceptor SUV, so maybe that one could die. Interesting.

CBP: Radwood 2018 - AMG Mercedes 500SL
iamsuperdan replied to iamsuperdan's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Those look great! Once I get the final coats on and let them cure for a couple of days, this should polish out into something nice. In the meantime, on to the interior and chassis! Duran Duran was my soundtrack last night.
