  1. So I found out last week that Edmonton is losing one of it's hobby stores. Hobby Alley in west Edmonton is shutting the doors this Saturday. That leaves one decent hobby store in a city of about a million people. Yeah there's that other store with two mall locations, but they specialize in anime and Japanese culture things, and have very few supplies, and even fewer knowledgeable staff members. In talking with the owner of Hobby Alley, it's due to online shopping. The major part of his business is RC. Yes, online is eating into his sales, but there's another factor too. He's tired of RC people coming in, figuring out what they want, then going home and ordering online, then coming back and asking for technical help on how to install/use it once it arrives. Then they freak out when he says he wants to charge for technical assistance on products he didn't sell. Can't say I disagree with his thought. So now, if I want supplies or kits, I have to do an inconvenient drive across the city to hit up Hobby Wholesale. Good stroe, great inventory, but inconvenient. No more whipping out at lunch to the store that's 5 minutes away.
  2. I second Wings & Wheels. Even though I'm on the other side of the country, I order from these guys quite a bit. Service is excellent, and they always have what the stores here are missing.
  3. THank you for not painting it red! I love a red Ferrari, but it's refreshing to see something else! And it's nicely done too!
  4. Whoa. That wheel score. If you need to get rid of those 18" RUF wheels, let me know! lolz
  5. The reasoning for the shape is to get it as close to a "box" as possible, maximizing interior space, while keep it a compact package, and retaining aerodynamics. I just spent time with one of these at a GM Fleet event. I'm 6'6", and not a tiny 6'66", and I actually fit quite comfortably. The back seat behind me became useless, but I fit. If they kept the pricing reasonable, this would be a great commuter car. I spent a month with a 2015 Chevy Volt, and it was fantastic. Cost me $3 CDN in fuel over that month long period. Comfortable, fast, room for stuff, lots of features, and I thought it looked good. I wish these manufacturers would start applying hybrid and electric tech to vehicles that really need it. Like my truck. It's easy to take an already economical car and make it more economical. Let's see this tech trickle down to a truck that can tow a 30ft trailer.
  6. It goes both ways. I run the leasing division for one of Canada's larger vehicle suppliers. We have clients that run Chevrolet and will not run GMC trucks for any reason. And we have GMC customers that will never run a Chev. I have Chev guys that insist the GMC trucks are junk and not as reliable as their Chevs, and vice versa. Now, there are significant differences between the two, in terms of standard equipment, packages, and how these things can be equipped and priced. But at the end of the day, they're basically identical. I still don't understand why GM bothers with two truck divisions.
  7. Definitely one of the better builds I've seen of this kit. The Challenger wheels are a great touch.
  8. My first car was almost a Citation hatchback. I went with a 78 Thunderbird instead. Anyway, kit looks great!
  9. Let's see...currently on the bench... AMT 1978 Ford F250 1968 Dodge Charger RT Meng Ford F350 ESCI Mercedes G-Wagen Revell VW Golf Italeria Volvo FH16 Monogram 1970 Superbird rebuild Italeri Porsche 993 Tamiya BMW Z3 I'v e put an asterix next the ones I'll get finished by the end of the year.
  10. Thanks! Checked it out, some very cool stuff. Seems pricey, but I think I'm going to grab one of these. And I see they have the M1009 Blazer too. Hmm...
  11. Looks great! I went to check it out, but the address in your pic above doesn't work. Is Miniman out of business?
  12. Wait...so this kit comes as a convertible? And you have to turn it into a hardtop?
  13. Was weird. I tried sending a new message, and tried replying to old messages. Got the same message: Error 404, the page I'm trying to display couldn't be found. But I did get a big smiley face with the error message.
  14. Anyone else having trouble sending PMs through the site? I keep getting an Error 404 message.
  15. Manual trans?! I wish. Mine is the usual 4-spd auto. Back in 1998, I almost bought a '94 K1500 extended cab 4X4 with the manual trans. White extended cab with beige interior. Can't remember why I passed on that one. Ended up with a 93 Jeep XJ Sport that I proceeded to put 440,000km on before it gave up.
  16. I'm pretty familiar with these things. They've always been my fav truck design. My wife was even driving one when we met! CV joints have been done. Will check the ball joints, but I think they're fine, as I just had one of the techs here at work do an inspection on it. Four wheel drive system works very well, although I did have to replace the switch on the dash, as it was cutting out at times. All in all, it's a great truck. Full load 1997, and everything works still! No leaks, no major issues, no major rust, no weird noises...not bad for 350,000km!
  17. So my old CHev K1500 needs some very minor work done. Idler Arm and Pitman Arm are dangerously worn, so I need to replace. Fairly simple job, I have all the tools, and the parts were only about $20. So I clear my schedule, make all the plans to get the truck in the agrage last night to take care of this...only to realize I lent my dad my ramps, and they're out of town for a the next week or so. And to do this job, I need to get the front end a little higher, as I can;t really fit under the truck on my creeper AND do the work at the same time. So I guess I'll just bring it in to work here tomorrow and try to do it on shop night. More annoyed than irritated. On a positive, I found a set of 6 factory rims and tires for the truck for less than $150. So I'll be cleaning those up and getting them on there.
  18. It's goofy, but I really like how this turned out. Question: how did you make the vinyl roof? I have a kit that will require a vinyl roof for my vision. THanks!
  19. Another excellent trade with Intmd8r. I've done a few with him now, and have never had any concerns. Thanks Steve!
  20. Love the interior colour choice.
  21. Wow. Excellent work!
  22. Love that it's not going to be red! Excellent colour choice!
  23. What kit do you need them for? If I have it, I'd be happy to scan them to you.
  24. This is great. I have this kit in the stash, and your description of the issues is going to help me a lot. I like how yours turned out. The colour combo is perfect.
