That would have been my first thought too. But Round2 have just released the new Charger kit, and like you said, there is a lot of diecast out there for Dodge/Ram/Jeep product. So Stellantis is licensing their stuff. Maybe their licenses are prohibitively expensive though?

For offroad machines: Jeep XJ Cherokee - I cannot believe no one has ever done this in kit form. A full detail with the 4.0L inline 6 would be awesome. Lamborghini LM002 - again, how have Tamiya or Fujimi never done this as a kit. Ford F150 Raptor - A full detail version please. Not the simple curbside pseudo-toy kit. Jeep Grand Wagoneer - I would love this.

Unfortunately, being a Meng kit, it will not be inexpensive! But it will be awesome. I'm mentally preparing myself for the cost. And the fact that my wife will ask about the credit card charge!

I think it's good for people to hear this stuff firsthand. There's a huge difference between a hobbyist 3D printer and someone who is using it as their sole income, and a lot of people don't realize the enormity of that. I've often thought about doing some printing on the side, actually setting up a business. I already have a numbered company I could operate under legally, so that part is easy. But the costs to do it properly, even just as a part timer for fun, is more than I'm willing to take on. Even just looking at the time commitment. Printing, curing, cleaning up the parts, packaging, shipping. I just don't have that much time to commit, while still working full time, and having a family life, and hobbies.

Okay look... Chad, you're right. Shapeways is a more expensive option and is not for everyone. There are other ways to get parts for much less money. However... Charles is also right. People should be compensated for the time they put into designing a part, plus they need to recoup the costs of the equipment and programs they use to design their stuff. And then of course, people should be compensated for their time and equipment when it comes to physically printing a part. Designing parts is super easy for some people. They can crack out a design in less time than it took me to type this post. Others take a while. And what each of those people feel their time is worth is entirely up to them. There are designers that choose to make all of their designs free. And good for them. That's their decision. And there are designers that charge a premium. And good for them. That's their decision. It's the same for printing. Some people will do it for the most basic of costs. Others will charge significantly more. And both are right. I've printed parts for others, and I'm not looking to make a buck. I just want to cover some bare costs. Mainly just the resin used, and shipping. I could probably add $5 or $10 to everything I print and make a little money. But this is not an income source for me. It's a hobby I do for fun, and I've printed for others because sometimes I just like helping people out. For others, it's side business, or even their only business. As such, they need to make a living. And the beauty of the system is that everyone has the ability to choose where they shop and who they buy from. If you feel Shapeways is too expensive, fair enough. I tend to agree, especially in light of what other sources charge for 3d printed parts. However I don't think there is anything shady or nefarious going on with Shapeways. And the people who sell there are not trying to scam people. That is the model they chose for the business, and it's popular, so it obviously works. No one is wrong for doing what fits their needs and their budget. Heck, look at the printing costs for the vendors suggested on Cults. On the design download page, they list a few companies that will print your files for you. Not cheap. but people need to decide for themselves if its worth it to them or not. And there's no wrong answer. Everyone just needs to do what's right for them. Don't worry about what others are doing.

I seem to have been lucky and have found a few of the seemingly unaobtainable kits on my list, at reasonable prices. I think currently though, the Revell Mercedes 230TE has got to be the grail kit, the most elusive kit I've been looking for. On the rare occasion they come up for sale, they're usually far more than I would spend on a single kit. Ahh well, I'm fairly patient, so one should eventually come along.

I'm convinced this whole model thing is actually two hobbies. The first, which I'm much better at, is acquiring kits and expanding the stash. The second is actually building and finishing kits. Anyway... Finally found this one locally. And snagged these too.

He's got limited offerings, but https://whitechocolate124.com/ has some transkits and parts that are stellar quality. VW, some Honda, some Mercedes.

Great job on both! I've often thought about that Trans AM, but have no idea where I'd put the finished kit!

This has come up before, and we're definitely aware of Magzter's shortcomings. In editorial meetings, we have discussed, and continue to look into alternatives that provide a better experience. As always, if/when a change is made, we'll post about it here. Thanks for the feedback!
