What did you see on the road today?
iamsuperdan replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Back to my buddy's shop today. Chev 3200. It's a little ratty, but I dig it. Could just daily this thing and never worry about it. And there shop truck was here. It's pretty wild in person. Personally, I would have gone with a more old school bed, but overall it's pretty cool. -

Stopped by a friend's shop today. They do outfitting on work trucks, and we utilize their graphics division extensively. However, their specialty is custom cars. Here's a sampling of what was in the shop today. This one was flipping beautiful, and I don't usually get real excited over cars from the 50s. Something about this one though. And for funsies, that's a supercharged BMW M3 Cabriolet hiding beside it, and that's my truck across the street. ? This Toyota is awesome. So tiny though, I can't even fit behind the wheel, let alone operate the clutch, or get my foot on the gas without hitting the brake at the same time! They were just finishing up the graphics on this one today. In progress Continental in the background. Currently no interior. 1968 Charger. Just beautiful. THe GTO to the right just came out of paint. Full restoration project. The GMC Denali to the left just had all of the black plastic and chrome colour matched. Typical shop view. The OBS Chev in the background has a fully built twin turbo LS. I drool every time I see it. Must be Belair week at the shop. -
Saw this article over at Motor1. https://www.motor1.com/news/607096/2023-nissan-z-model-kit-by-tamiya/ Interesting that it's getting attention on a news website. COuld very well generate interest and attract some new people into the hobby.

Inexpensive paint booth recommendations
iamsuperdan replied to WizPorsche944's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Lots of good info here. Bilge fan, power supply, ducting, hose clamps, all available on Amazon for $130 CDN. Add a furnace filter and either scrap wood or foam core board, and done. Not as daunting as I thought. Time to upgrade my painting area. -
Currently $14640 CDN on a new 911. When I worked for Porsche in the early 2000s, it was only about $6k.
-
I usually just put a dab on a scrap piece of plastic or carstock. It gets tossed when I'm done, that way there is a very minimal chance I'll touch it and get it everywhere. Although I still manage.
-
Porsche has been doing this for years. Send them a colour sample, and they'll paint your car in that colour. Or will do the interior leather in that colour. Of course...it's not a $50 charge! Add a few more zeroes to the end of that number!

What do you drive?
iamsuperdan replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Got some decent pics of the new truck. 2022 F150 Lariat with the3.5L PowerBoost hybrid engine. Spec'd it out with most of the good stuff, including the big stereo, big sunroof, and the onboard generator. And I went with the CO-Pilot 360 Active 2.0 option, which includes Blue Cruise hands-free driving. Added a 2.5" lift kit and some Goodyear Duratrac tires, lined canopy, full clear stoneguard wrap on the front end, and a dashcam. I've had it since July 9 and now have almost 8000km on it, which is roughly 5000 miles. Hybrid engine has been great. You don't see much improvement in economy on the highway, but driving around town is huge. The truck does around 900-950km (590 miles roughly) per tank, and of that about 200km (125miles) are in pure electric mode. And the hybrid comes with a smaller gas tank that the other models. 98L (26 gallon) as opposed to 136L (36 gallon.) So I'm pretty happy with this. The generator works great. Have used it camping to keep phones and cameras fully charged, plus our electric cooler. Saves having to keep picking up bags of ice to keep everything cold. Have also used it to charge our weed whacker and lawnmower batteries. -

One of my client's staff parking. They lease all of their Transit vans and work trucks from me. And the 2022 TRX. And the 2018 Challenger Hellcat. But I didn't get a crack at the Ferrari. -

I actually like the look of this one, and I'm not a JDM guy at all. If the suspension is done right, that could be a fun car. -

We get a little bit of everything here at work. We even do oil changes on the classics. 1968 I believe. -
Days of Thunder Revisited.

Yeah, he's an independent store. The only one in the area as far as I know. Awesome selection. He scours the internet buying used DVD and Blu-Ray collections. Plus he has an amazing selection of new releases too. https://movieworldsp.wixsite.com/website/what-we-offer We watched DOT last night. The kiddies (15 and 18) found it amusing. I forgot just how little plot the movie actually has. lolz But it was still awesome! -

That's the only factory wheel available on the Lariat trim level. The Pro, XLT, and Platinum all have their own designs. ? But if one were so inclined, any F150 wheel will fit on the Lightning. -
Well then. I'm going to have to go back and look through all of my carshow photos over the past few years, because I'm sure I've seen that car. It's somewhat local to me. And I like the colour. I also like that back in the day, the manufacturers would "break the rules" every now and then. Even today, I don't understand why the manufacturers restrict colours or certain options. They're all on the same production line, so what's the problem? I would have ordered my F150 in Race Red, but you cannot get that colour with the hybrid engine. The EcoBoost or 5.0L? No problem. Weird.

Had another Lightning arrive. Rapid Red, Lariat. This will look so good when it's detailed. The colour really pops. -
Days of Thunder Revisited.
iamsuperdan replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Days of Thunder currently not available on any of the streaming services. And that's why we still have a membership in our town's last remaining movie rental place! Picked it up last night, week long rental for $2. ?
