1990 GMC Diablo
iamsuperdan replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks good! Did you get the GMC grille from the old AMT C3500 kit? -
I'm not a boat builder by any means, but my dad was. When he passed, he had a handful of boat kits on the go, which I plan to eventually finish. Although I'm not sure about the old boats with the complicated rigging. HMC Victory, and I think the SS United States. I also have a couple of dozen unstarted boat kits now. Plus several dozen plane kits.

What did you see on the road today?

How is she not a celebrity? She was iconic in the 80s. Her and her ex and their buildings and yachts and all that nonsense. As iconic then as the Karashians or Kanye or any number of celebs or today. Anyway, condolences to her family.

Can't wait to see what ends up arriving here. Hopefully next week.

I think that looks pretty darn accurate. Nice touch with the tanker lurking in the reflections.

Alpha Models Ferrari GTC4Lusso - Update 8/23/2022
iamsuperdan replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Totally. Your bronze paint looked really good, but then seeing the red...it's just how it's meant to be. It's why every Ferrari I've built has been red! -
The great actor James Caan passed away

I remember him most as Walter Hobbs in Elf. -
S10 BAJA

The BFGs look right. They fit well with the rest of the truck. The T14s could be cool, but I think you'd need to give the truck a lift before they looked right. -
Alpha Models Ferrari GTC4Lusso - Update 8/23/2022

Even though a red with beige Ferrari is cliche, it's also one of the best looking choices. Looking forward to seeing more. -
VW 5th Wheel Camper
iamsuperdan replied to Nosferatu's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very familiar with your inspiration pic! I've been a VW fan/owner for years, and have that one saved somewhere. Looking forward to seeing yours! -
Not bad. Ordered yesterday, and it's already been shipped. Hopefully see it here within a couple of weeks. And my local hobby stores? Still haven't been able to order them.

I'll be on a ferry on Monday. Vancouver to Nanaimo, BC. Going under the assumption that our crossing will go better than this one!

Amazon describes it as an Orrery Music Box.

My new truck is finally in my driveway. 2022 F150 Lariat with the PowerBoost hybrid engine. Went with the 2.4kW built-in generator too. 3" levelling lift kit, upgraded to Duratrac tires, full 3m stoneguard wrap on the front end and mirror caps, added an ARE canopy and some Yakima roof racks. Putting all of that to good use next week on a roadtrip to the west coast of Vancouver Island. Ordered March 27th. So just over 3 months, which is about what it would take for orders to arrive in the before times.

Mine's on order. Will see how long it takes to get it here.

Contradiction? Not really. Do most people generally care about the environment? Of course they do. People do their recycling, and separate their organics from plastics, and turn off lights when they leave a room, and all of that convenient stuff. And I think most are happy to do that. Are people coming in to dealerships and shopping for EVs because they want to save the environment? Not around here. Some kind of throw that in as an afterthought, but it is not the driving motive. Maybe in California or other states and provinces. I 100% agree that the current rush for lithium and cobalt and all of the other minerals used in EVs is wreaking havoc on the environment. Lithium mining is horrible! Will it get better? Eventually, yes. Look at oil production. Go back a few decades, and it was disgusting how it was damaging the environment. Oil production now is much cleaner and far less impactful. Is it perfect? No, but it's far better than it was. I still think more development can be done to make ICE engines more efficient, but that's just not where things are heading right now.

I think the reality right now, and what we're seeing here at the dealership, is that no one is really too concerned about the environmental impact of ICW vs EV. I mean, yes we all care about the environment, but that's not why we're sold out of Mach-E, eTransit, and F150 Lightning, and why most of our F150s in stock are hybrids. No, people see our gas is around $1.90/L. And we're the cheapest province in Canada for fuel because we process and make the stuff. I won't get into why the fuel prices are where they are here, because then I'd have to give myself a 30 day timeout. People see those gas prices and want personal savings for themselves. They've been thinking about a new vehicle anyway, so why not look at something that will help their monthly expenses? I know we're considering it for wifey right now. We've been thinking about replacing her XC90, and over the past few months, the idea of electric has been very attractive.

This show has been growing steadily over the past 5 years or so. Grove Cruise should be coming up at the end of August. It's been cancelled the past couple of years though. If it happens, it'll be at Jubilee Park in Spruce Grove. This coming Saturday is "The Ultimate Car Show" out at Reynolds Museum in Wetaskiwin. https://reynoldsmuseum.ca/events/ultimate-car-show
