Excellent! Black Box' parts are so good. I've purchased a lot of his wheel/tire sets, interior pieces. Been eyeballing some of his Porsche body parts too. And further to the discussions above, my Elegoo printer's default print height was .05. I changed that to .04 and noticed a significant improvement in terms of layer lines. Takes a little longer, but I have much less prep time after printing to fix things. Am going to change it up to .03 and see how that goes.

Curbside vs full detail doesn't matter much to me, provided the cost reflects the lower parts count. All I really want are crisp, defined details. I'm tired of the engine block blob or interior panels with almost no details on them. And I want more modern subject matter. Oh, and please ditch the toy-like chrome found on so many kits. Just skip the chrome plating and let builders add their own.

Chevy Extended Cab

Where did you get the WT-spec grille? I found one source, can't remember who. Doesn't look as good as yours does. -
1966 Mercury Comet
iamsuperdan replied to MarkJ's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Very interesting. Will be watching with great interest. I know first hand how hard it is to find one of the actual AMT kits of the 66 Comet. Thanks to someone on this board, I was finally able to get my hands on one of the promo kits. Was looking for literally years, as I wanted to build a replica of the car we had when I was a kid. Pics for reference. -
Paint Strippers - What to Use?
iamsuperdan replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sorry, I know it's off topic, but my mind went other places after reading your post. Lolz. ? Okay, carry on with the topic at hand.... -
My new truck has been serialized and has a production date set. So that's pretty cool. And the Canada Geese are back, so spring is just around the corner. Temps will be around 10 C through the weekend, which will be a pleasant change.

The Push for Permanent "Daylight Saving" Time
iamsuperdan replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Personally, it doesn't bother me. Follow DST or don't, it really makes no difference in my life whatsoever. And it's especially not worth getting into a debate or argument over. -
It's just what's popular right now. People are into the whole off-road, outdoorsy-vibe, so the manufacturers are designing accordingly. Personally, I don't mind the black trim. I like that look on most vehicles. As for maintenance, I started using a Wurth plastic dye on my wife's Volvo when it started fading, and it lasts quite a while. I have to reapply every now and then, but it's fine. Just part of the spring deep clean I do every year. And this black trim fad is no different than carts in the past having chrome on everything; wheel arch trim, fender vents, body contour lines, rear fins, bumpers, windshield wipers, rocker panels, interior parts, etc. And I dislike chrome trim immensely. I usually end up de-chroming my own vehicles. Replacing grilles, bumpers, removing arch moldings and emblems, etc.

I've been using the Elegoo Water Washable resin. I've found the ceramic grey to be my preference. I tried the semi-transparent green, and that worked well, but was much more brittle. Had to do a few reprints with that. I think it's good for larger pieces, but if you have fine detail or thin parts, go with the non-transparent.

scale differances
iamsuperdan replied to Madd Trucker's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I use this page a lot when converting scales to 1/24 or 1/25. https://www.digitaltaxidermy.co.uk/scale-converters -
Excellent work!

When I saw what happened, that was the first thought I had! Well, the first thought I had that didn't begin with F. Unfortunately it was the back half of a cab, with like a quarter of a door. Not really something usable. I still have it, so maybe it can become something.

And the week of panic and news stories about the crisis appears to be over here. Gas dropped 12 cents/L yesterday. And our premier announced that starting in April, they'll be waiving the 13cent/L provincial tax on gas and diesel, provided oil is over $90US/barrel. lolz Whatever.

I guess I'm lucky. I've never had an unsafe vehicle, or an absolutely basket case of a vehicle. I've only had one vehicle that was unreliable. It was a 1990 Jeep YJ Islander with the carburated 4.2L inline-6. Fixed a lot of things when I bought it, but never could get it running right, always carb issues. Finally just got frustrated after getting towed for the umpteenth time and traded it on a new 2005 Jeep TJ Sport. I did have a 1985 VW Transporter Doka. Did an engine swap on it to a TDI from a 2004 Jetta. Engine swap went smoothly, but it seemed like every month I was replacing something. Starter here, headlight relay there. The nickel and diming got old after a few months and when someone came along and offered me dumb money for it, I couldn't resist. Should have kept it, was a fun truck most of the time.

So the other day I set up my 3D printer to print a truck body all day while I was at work. But mid-day, there was a power outage affecting half of our town. And I ended up with half a body. And prints can't be just restarted where they left off. Ugh.

Scalemotorcars.
iamsuperdan replied to roadkill's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Try adjusting the size of the display. Open that page, then hold the CTRL button on your keyboard and use your mouse scroll wheel. Maybe at some point you accidentally shrunk the page. -
I picked one of these up at the same time I grabbed Revell's London Bus kit. You did a nice job. Paint in particular looks really good.

I was delivering some trucks for work today. $100 CDN got me 53L of diesel. Diesel is currently about $1.90L CDN. We are definitely getting a lot of calls this week about our EVs and hybrids. We had two Mach-Es arrive on Monday, and both sold yesterday. I've taken two orders this week for Lightnings and one order for an e-Transit. Lots of questions about Escape hybrids and F150 hybrids. Can't change the fuel prices, so people are looking for more efficient options.

Chevrolet to GMC conversion..
iamsuperdan replied to michaelbaskett's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
So here's an option. I mentioned 3D printing earlier in this thread. There are a couple of GMC options from this era for 3D printing. Here's a pic of the K1500 stepside. This truck prints in 1/25 scale. I've downloaded and printed one of the Chevrolet kits from the same creator. Detail and quality is excellent. And the grille matches up almost perfectly to the AMT cabs. Here's what the Chev grille looks like when printed. I have not done any cleanup to the grille in these pics. A good wash with some soapy water and the residue will disappear. I would consider buying the files and printing up copies if there was interest. Would have to figure out costs inc shipping. Obviously, the more interest there is, the lower the cost becomes. Just a thought.
